Okay so i've posted a lot of awful trolling mixes in phiz but my realdude skills have actually been improving. The one posted before this post obviously wasn't properly beatmatched so I wanted to make it up to you by posting the mixes I actually tried on. Plus, playing live is hard http://www.megaupload.com/?d=5JPTLKD0 Empire Of The Sun - Walking On A Dream (Redial Remix) Penguin Prison - A Funny Thing (Monarchy Remix) Dre Skull - I Want You (AC Slater Remix) Justice - Stress (Auto Remix) Moulinex - Break Chops (GRUM Remix) Alan Braxe - Vertigo (Thomas Bangalter's Virgo Edit) Fake Blood - Mars (Hervé Edit) Alex Gopher - Aurora (Riot In Belgium & Knightlife Remix) Passion Pit - To Kingdom Come (GRUM Vocal Mix) Fear Of Tigers - What Did I Do Sedat The Turkish Avenger - Sunrise (Original Mix) 80kidz feat. Hey Champ! - Getting You Off Strip Steve - Breakin (Original Mix) Together - So Much Love To Give (Archigram Mix) http://www.megaupload.com/?d=RD5KWHNA Tracklist: 01. La Roux - I'm Not Your Toy (Jack Beats Remix) 02. ProCon - Delia (Edwin Van Cleef Remix) 03. PNAU - Embrace (Fredrick Carlsson Epic Remix) 04. Mille - Crysteena (Justin Faust Remix) 05. The Infadels - Love Like Semtex (Fear Of Tigers Remix) 06. MSTRKRFT - Heartbreaker (Three Fingers Remix) 07. Miike Snow - Animal (Fake Blood Remix) 08. Digitalfoxglove feat. Freak You - Beasts & Flowers 09. Leonardus - Discotizer 10. Drop The Lime - Devil's Eyes (Classixx's B-live mix) I am looking for any and all constructive criticism, and props to anyone who finds it enjoyable. I've been told by other DJs that I have a great ear for track selection (these mixes were played at 2 parties I recently had) but my mixes are simply not beatmatched so what's the point. I can only really get better I hope.

Apolis posted:I'm yet to hear that xx remix dropped in a mix particularly well Yeah that's definitely a weak part in my mix, it's just way to quiet and sparse to follow pretty much anything, and the dub feel doesn't mesh well with most other stuff in there. I could explain it away as wanting a bit of a breather after a huge track like heads will roll but it's just too much.

Dig the crates in those genres and you'll come out a winner. Also, when playing this type of stuff it pays to get away from playing an hour of VROO VROO VRAAAAAMM VROO and find other stuff that fits with a bit of swing in its hips. I have gotten big into dancehall etc and find that it splits up the night nicely. but hey, I'm just here to take a "hipster poo poo" on everything, right?

Yeah, while I certainly enjoy vroo vroo stuff, I find myself more drawn towards the french house/disco/hi-NRG influenced artists, I think they fit more with my own personality and should look more into those genres. Something you probably could help with actually from a technical standpoint is how to throw in old tracks smoothly as far as eq-ing and volume, I don't know a whole lot about loving with eqs especially since I'm just working on computer speakers/headphones, but even I can tell that disco tracks sound really frail compared to most modern stuff.

general tip also is to make your end sound source louder (the speakers i guess) and keep the volume in your software down. for example the VU meters in your software are only jumping halfway or so on a newer, big sounding track, so if you play a quieter tune you can boost the volume/gain without going into the red. keeping it all relative in other words, so you dont hit your volume cieling and still feel that one track is quieter

And if you've just got the knobs on your mixer, a very slight bass boost and a general gain doesn't hurt. Older songs will still sound different, but not so tinny.
