I know it's also an option for the iPods, so maybe you don't have it on for a computer, but maybe you have it on for an iPod?

It always does that in case you ever turn volume normalizing on in the future.

I used winamp forever and have used foobar numerous times. It works fine and I have always hated certain things about itunes. But it's the most straightforward program. Now that I got a new computer that can run it without hogging a lot of resources I think I'll just stick with it. So I've been looking for a global hotkey program for itunes and so far I like ituners quite a bit. Although when I right click it I get an "unhandled exception has occured in a component in your application" Otherwise it works fine. I only have itunes 9.something. It's about 2-3 months old and I know there's a newer one. That being said what's the best way to manage album artwork? Manually add it via "get info?" What version id3 tag is the best? 2.3? What version id3 tag do you need to store album artwork in the actual files and do you guys recommend that I store the artwork in the actual mp3 file via itunes or? Music brainz is one of those good programs for sourcing album artwork, no? Let's say I just wanted to get album artwork and have it stored in the folder for that particular album and then add it to the album on itunes via "get info" what's the best way? What equalizer setting do most of you use mostly for all your music? Thanks Nostalgia4Dogges fucked around with this message at 06:10 on Apr 17, 2010 |

Just got an iPod Nano 5G after using the 3G square unit for a couple years. So, do iPods no longer update Smart Playlists that are based on other Smart Playlists? As a simple example, let's say: 1. I have a Smart Playlist with 25 songs that meet the criteria "hasn't been played in 3 months." 2. As the iPod plays through this list, the songs that no longer meet this criteria disappear from the list, and 3. The iPod picks songs from the pool of tracks it has onboard and fills the list with it, continually refreshing the list. 4. Any 'Main' Smart Playlist that links to this Smart Playlist is also capable of continually refreshing itself dynamically. The result is a bottomless, continually refreshed playlist with a variety of hand-tweaked preferences, by adding to the number of Smart Playlists that the 'Main' Smart Playlist references. It's a portable radio station. It's great. This no longer happens with my new iPod. Even my ancient iPod Mini can handle this. Is there a way to get this behavior back with the new Nano?

I don't like foobar2000, but iTunes has been driving me insane lately. I don't notice any performance issues with iTunes until I run photoshop or Minecraft (a java game). Is there anyway to limit or lower the amount of resources it uses? My computer is quite good, but I'm still getting these loving slow downs.

You could set the processor affinity. http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/how-to-set-processor-affinity-to-an-application-in-windows/ iTunes has ever been a dog (thanks to being a cross-platform developed app, a heavily skinned interface you can't turn off, and I believe it also uses Quicktime to do *everything* related to playback), but it doesn't exercise the CPU much when playing, and it's minimized (to the taskbar, not the tray), it uses around 14MB of RAM (which slowly grows, but not by much). XMPlay's pretty good as far as RAM and CPU consumption, and it isn't a smorgasbord of options like Foobar2K.

If my HDD ever dies, can I use the music on my iPod to restore things? There seems little point in making another back-up on an external drive when the tunes on my iPod are [essentially] a back-up.

You'll need an app capable of reading the database files on an iPod. Apple, in their typical obscure-everything way, doesn't store mp3s like normal files on the iPod, but instead as oddly named files with references that are read from internal database. Fortunately, there are many apps that can do this, and I believe Yamipod and Mediamonkey are both capable of this, as well as Ephpod. You'll probably want your iPod in "Disk Mode" for this to work.

Thanks guys. I'm using OS X, but it's handy to know there is an option in iTunes to "Transfer Purhases from iPod". I'll look into that other software. It would be cool if there was a way you could trick iTunes into thinking it was all iTunes store music. Edit: I just found these instructions on how to copy your music from your iPod to iTunes without any third part software. Is written for PC though. http://it.toolbox.com/blogs/ontherun/how-to-copy-music-from-your-ipod-to-your-itunes-library-5615 KingEup fucked around with this message at 04:22 on Apr 19, 2010 |

Okay, so the new Crystal Castles album has the same name as their previous album. Is there any way to get itunes to recognise them as two different albums? I thought just putting in different years would work, but it hasn't.

Kyon posted:Okay, so the new Crystal Castles album has the same name as their previous album. There's the Sort fields. Try doing something like "Crystal Castles (1st Album)" and "Crystal Castles (2nd Album)" in the sort fields. It should sort them alphabetically/numerically, and it's invisible in the lists (unless you have the sort field as one of the columns, of course).

Sharepod is the most awesome one. (http://www.getsharepod.com/) It's free and straight forward. The other ones cost a fair chunk of change and don't even work as well. I spent a long time googling for a good program because there's a ton with a bunch of lame catches or problems. It took me forever to find this one.

Suddenly, and with no apparent intervention on my part, all of my podcasts revert to 'unplayed' after every sync. I'll listen to half of 'This American Life' and then sync, only to have my place lost. This didn't always happen. I'm hoping there's a stupidly easy global settting for this that I can't find because I'm blind - I know about 'Get Info' and setting 'Remember Playback Position' - but 1) this doesn't seem to work, and 2) I don't want to do it for all the podcasts I subscribe too. Oh, running itunes version 9.0.3.15 on Win7. Thanks for any tips.

Had a similar problem with my own ipod after updating to 9.0.* Reccomended solutions 1) Update to iTunes 9.1 , which seems to have solved this problem, or... 2) Never listen to anything that iTunes is supposed to keep place in on both your iPod and your Computer, because, judging by my experience, if the iPod and iTunes dissagreed on the "Last Played" information, iTunes won. Until 9.1.*, I got around it by playing all podcasts and audiobooks from my iPod, sometimes through my computer's speakers, if neccessary.

This has probably already been asked but damned if this isn't a huge thread: Is there any way to make smart playlists that are based on albums instead of individual tracks? For example, I'm trying to make a playlist of albums that I liked but haven't listened to in a while. My criteria is that Play Count is greater than 5, and Last Played is greater than 2 months. This gives me a whole lot of songs, but what I want is the whole album of any song that matches designation. I don't like to listen to individual songs, I like whole albums. Is this possible?

Ok, so I did the update last week, and it worked halfway. The podcasts show up in iTunes as partially listened to, and remember the position, but, they go back to un-listened to on my iPhone. So, if I listen to 30 minutes of a podcast on my iPhone, and sync, in iTunes it would start 30 minutes in, and on my phone it's like it's brand new. Videos don't have this issue. I look at the pref's on the phone and don't see anywhere to tell audio to start playing 'where left off'.

Why the hell does my Itunes insist on popping in front of every other window? The only way to use any other window is to switch to the mini-player. And even then it steals focus of other programms and you have to click in the window you wanted to use every ~20 seconds. Its 9.1.0.79 on Windows 7 64bit and its starting to really piss me off.

I currently have all my music in FLACs on my desktop running windows 7. In about a month I am getting a MacBook Pro and probably gonna be using iTunes for most of my listening needs. This isn't really a question about iTunes, but does anyone know of a good converter that will convert FLAC to ALAC and keep all the tags? Also another unrelated-to-iTunes question: Is there any way to sync music to my ZuneHD on OS X?

Every time I sync my iPod Touch, iTunes generates a folder called "iPod Photo Cache" on my desktop, how do I stop it doing this? I did once upload some pictures from the Desktop, but I've turned syncing photos off (currently only syncing music) and deleted all the pictures on the iPod that I uploaded but it still generates this folder and I'm sick of having to delete it every time.

I've been really loving unorganized with my iTunes, but I want to kind of get it working together again. I've had my first itunes on my old computer, synced it with two of my familys computers because they said "It will be for the best" and I since swapepd to a new computer that I synced, and then clean installed a new OS on it and wondering how I can get all my purchased songs back on my computer. I have my iTunes Store account and I've already found all the songs in my payment history, I'm just not sure how to redownload them. Edit: And can I deauthorize old computers I no longer use?
