Gimpy Joe posted:Since it seems to be 'post your odd/unique TCOM problem' time I guess I'll try to get some help. I've been crouching every minute or so for no reason. It really messes up combat and is just annoying in general. The interval between occurrences doesn't seem to be regular ~ anyone know what is going on or how to fix it? Sounds like you bound the key for dodge from Deadly Reflexes to your walk key or some other key you usually press. If that's the issue rebind your key. If it's not the issue, I'm unsure of what it could be.

I don't know, but Bethesda isn't known for great writing. They probably saw it as low priority, which it is in the grand scheme of a big, open world where you should spend all your time adventuring than hanging out in town. I'd like to see a TES game written (and only written; keep their modelers and animators far, far away) by Obsidian.

Yeah Funyuns posted:Because they blew their writing budget on Patrick Stewart. The setting related stuff in Morrowind was well-written, I thought. They did a great job with the sounds of words and made-up language, it all had a particular ring to it and was pretty evocative, and the history of the island and the mythic beings that inhabited it was really good. It also handled ideas related to occupation and culture in a sophisticated way compared to 90% of fantasy settings. From a game design standpoint as well, I thought the core scenario of Morrowind was really well written for the type of game they were making. You can go do your own thing or run off on your own and it all sort of clicks. Plus the threat of Red Mountain seemed, to me, far more credible than Dagon and the Oblivion gates (note: i haven't beaten the game yet), in part because Red Mountain is actually pretty scary in Morrowind. The sixth house, getting infected by corprus and the leper colony you visit, the weird body horror aesthetic, and the sheer presence of the volcano are all really well done. The thing is all that reflected a lot of research and thought and care and inspiration. Just committing to a setting where there are no horses or knights, and everyone is an insect riding dark elf (and not the pretty kind) was pretty bold in itself.

I was looking through the TCOM list and it seems a lot of the modules in it are out of date...is this on purpose? I mean, it really makes a big difference with the quest mods especially to have the best version. Would it break it if I were to just replace the OMODs in TCOM with their updated versions? Here's a short list of some that need updating: Heart Of The Dead Hoarfrost Castle Kvatch Rebuilt The Old Crow Inn Bank Of Cyrodiil Random Tasks Tears of the Fiend The Order of Nibenay Theivery In the Imperial City Thieves Grotto Vaults of Cyrodiil Illumination Within Revived Optimized Beautiful People

resistentialism posted:I can understand why they might skimp on hiring a ton of voice actors to play their npcs, but why did they get the few actors they had to all read the exact same lines for their flavour npc babble? I'm pretty sure it wasn't even a budgetary issue, if you look at the way they designed the dialog in the game, they want to have everybody able to say the same sorts of generic lines in conversation, rumors, and reaction dialog ("oh you look like you've been lifting weights cyradil!"). The way it works, they can basically just create a generic pool of rumors and incidental dialog and have every NPC in the game spout fairly specific bullshit without having to worry about who is talking to who since there are only 4 people in the entire world. It doesn't just save on hiring voice actors, it saves on the work of keeping track of coding and managing all the NPC's.

Been trying to get the Oblivion XP mod working the last couple of days, but it seems nothing i do makes it work? The only other mod i have is darnified and a quickstart mod i have to skip the beginning. I have tried loading all of these in random orders. I think it's something with the scripting that doesnt work, that I'm having problems installing Oblivion Script Extender (OBSE). I'm using the steam version so the readme told me to only put it's DLL files in the oblivion folder. Doesn't seem to do anything though. The Oblivion XP text-square shows up, but never does anything, and I'm unable to use any of the shortcuts that are supposed to work with it. The XP bar never moves, either. I'm using a different levelling-mod now and its works fine... Any clues on what to do?

They make life so much easier when finding the right install order. You can make your own of any mod with OBMM. Also, are you using the steam specific OBSE loader? How long have you played with OXP? I just exited the tutorial and am just now beginning to see a bit of yellow - that's with no other mods that affect EXP gain or leveling. Now for my own problem. Why the gently caress is Frans crashing my game? I have the mod(s) and both the item and creature addons. I didn't install the weapon or leveling features. The tutorial works fine, but the moment I step outside with Frans enabled it crashes. Without, everything is fine. Not sure. I need to look this up. I played through about half the cave on the first island right when you get out from the tutorial sewage system. I think that includes killing about 7-10 guys. Under the whole time i got no messages in the message box, and the XP bar in the didnt seem to do anything.

meeelting posted:Been trying to get the Oblivion XP mod working the last couple of days, but it seems nothing i do makes it work? If it helps I just did a clean install of oblivion/shivering isles with no dlc and installed the latest OOO, darnified, oblivion XP and the quickstart in that order. It works perfectly. I did have to uninstall oblivion, then delete the entire folder, then go into my documents > my games and delete the oblivion folder. After everything was deleted I reinstalled and did those mods and it seems everything is working fine. I did it in OBMM, then ran BOSS, then ran wyrebash and made sure to click the green box in the bottom left so it has a check mark (so it runs OBSE before launch) and then launched oblivion from wyrebash. Works fine. I extracted the OBSE files all into my oblivion folder, not my data folder. BOSS goes in data folder. I did have to uninstall TCOM because it was crashing a lot and I was getting bad FPS. Complete OOO, Oblivion XP and darnified seem to be fine for me. I don't need any of that other anime crap or amateur quests and random stuff that is added in with the rest of the mod (Seriously what point is there to have kids running around that do nothing but are marked essential and obviously not voiced by kids but adults trying to pretend to be kids? also random companions in inns with great gear that you can just strip and take yourself? not to mention lots of random stuff that will ruin immersion ( stupid headhunter mod in TCOM that has a George Bush in the ruins outside the sewers with a scroll that says Declaration of war on Iran and Paris Hilton and other random npcs) or give you gear that you should not even have that low of level oh and that). Yeah the headhunter mod is optional so take that with a grain of salt but all the readme for TCOM said was that it was " A simple bounty hunting mod. Adds criminals up to level 15". I have no idea why that mod was even included at all. If there is anyone who is coming back to this game and forgot a lot of the quests or is even new to the game and is not liking the way leveling is, skip TCOM. The only mods you need are OOO, oblivion XP (or another leveling mod), darnified, and then a few tweaks like the press a to grab all, keyring mod, and maybe the quickstart at end of the dungeon(You can grab deadly reflexes as well but I personally don't like it). It is just as easy to install those mods in that order with OMBB/WyreBash/Boss then it is to install TCOM if you are using the omod versions. The only way I would suggest TCOM is if you have a rig that is above the oblivion default requirements (You will see your fps drop) and you have already done all the guild quests/the main quest/and shivering isles and you are looking for more "content" and would be happy with content that is subpar.

If the box in the lower corner didn't go away a few seconds after loading, there is something wrong. Now that I'm looking in my directory, I don't see a steam loader EXE, only a dll. The main executable must handle both. Where did you install OBSE? It must be in the root folder, not Data. I don't have the steam version, but I assume it would be C:\program files (x86 [if on 64 bit system])\steam\steamapps\common\Oblivion and then of course you have to start the game using the loader. Edit: Does anybody have a link to that crafting mod mentioned earlier? The only ones I can find are unfinished/demo/beta ones. Unless I misread I saw that there is a full-featured mod out there. And Frans is still loving crashing my game. I've disabled and moved poo poo around 20 times and it still CTDs as I exit the tutorial area (starting new each test using a light quickstart mod, not loading one save game.) code:

meeelting posted:OBXP problem In installing the OMODs, what order did you install them in? Because if you installed OBXP then installed DarnUI, DarnUI will overwrite a bunch of settings for OBXP and make it not work, or just crash out on loading a new game.

Did you install the second .exe for the new creatures and items to show up? That one is only on PES. It's the 535mb one.

I also have an NVIDIA GPU, I've tried enabling the Fog Fix in my bashed patch (doesn't help), tried disabling HDR and Bloom (doesn't help). What the gently caress gives? Oh, and yes, it's in every interior cell, including ones added by mods.

It's a common issue that loads of people have sorted in different ways, best thing to do is do a search for 'Nvidia black screen' on the Bethsoft forums. Try turning off interior shadows. That's the only other thing I can think of.

I'm pretty sure it's something in unique landscapes or COBL conflicting and I'd rather have those than the few Frans features I wanted. My only problem now, which I've had since I tested the game with just one mod, is that it crashes when I exit, whether from in game or the menu.

Yeah you almost certainly pressed the forward key when Deadly Reflexes was asking for your dodge/flip command. In your inventory use the hourglass that is the deadly reflexes reset thing and it will let you rebind those keys. Octal posted:Not all my map icons seem to show up. Sometimes I'll have map markers that are invisible, yet they are there and can be dragged over to be viewed. I'd like to get them to be visible since I would like to see some stables and my own markers and such. I had a similar issue. I think there's a conflict between Travel Pack and Andy's Map Icons. It worked for me to just use Andy's since I didn't want the Mark/Recall spells from the travel pack... it'd probably work to do the opposite though.

How do I open wyre bash? I'm up to the part in the OP (Step 2.5) Also how do I know certain mods are actually loaded in my game? I manually selected to create an OMOD file with oblivion exp etc, but when I go to create in the next window I don't see them listed in the left hand side window just the unoffical patches? Is it supposed to be there? I also put in a UI mod but when I go ingame everything looks default. Has it not loaded correctly?

Alright I'm crashing everytime I look down the path towards Kvatch. I've only got OOO and the Guard Overhaul activated. Using the Oblivion GOTY edition. Only using those two mods shouldn't cause a crash like this.

Can I toss Unique Landscapes in with TCOM? I know theres a version on there already with a compatability patch but it says do not use.

I've been loving around with lots of options, but it doesn't seem to help. I did notice that lighting a torch seems to fix the problem (from what I've seen). If your screen goes black, light a torch and you can see again. If you turn off the torch (looking in the same direction), it goes back to black. This seems to imply it's a shadow-related problem but I don't really care anymore, I'll just use torches indoors instead. Thanks for your help anyhow. TCOM related: Has anyone noticed how several of the DLC areas (Vile Lair and Battlehorn Castle are the ones I've noticed atleast) are kinda bugged out (missing meshes, walls, etc)? I'm gonna try to disable the unofficial patches and see if that fixes it.

Everything seems to be working fine for me. It fixed all the problems with the DLC areas as well. I don't see why you'd use the unofficial patches when they just break everything. I can't really see any other mods that require the unofficial patches, when I disabled them only the bashed patch was disabled (since it relied on content from that esp, so you just rebuild it without those mods). edit: To clarify, I'm only disabling the DLCBattlehorn Unofficial Patch.esp and the DLCVile Lair Unofficial Patch.esp files, not the rest of the unofficial patches. Am I supposed to double click the mods I download so it opens them up in OMOD manager and then activate them? I keep getting crashed to desktop now, this is so frustrating. I'm following everything from the OP but I can't play this stupid game edit: hmm I can get it working by disabling some data files through the launcher, oh well. Got Oblivion XP mod to finally work. Turns out it wasnt the correct OBSE version i was running, and there was a steam specific version. Found a tutorial which i used for it: http://cxzcxz.com/blog/2009/06/getting-obse-working-with-steam-oblivion/ Thanks for the help! Now i can finally play Oblivion in a way i find enjoyable. Been waiting long for this.

The TCOM pack is pretty awesome, I've had tens of hours of fun with it so far, my thanks go to TR0LL for it I skipped the Qarl texture packs and the City Life NPC addon since they were causing a bit too much stress on my system, but other than that it's been running pretty perfectly now (Waterfront is heeeavy loading though). I get sometimes the odd crash while traveling (occurs more with horses), perhaps it's just the Better Cities mod hogging up more resources - it's been pretty avoidable with the resting trick. Only gripe is I just encountered the missing meshes problem at Deepscorn Hollow and Battlehorn Castle as well, was just about to post a question but I see it's there already. So the fix is to disable the unofficial patches regarding those places? Here's hoping it won't break anything else, Oblivion with mods is like a house of cards I'd rather not tweak more once it's working... I'd thought it was something to do with renaming some of the mod added files, like the TCOM instructions had renaming some files for Shivering Isles content.
