That's some beautiful camo. Is it real? If so, what's it for?

:aaa:

It's real.

The two F-16's with the "AK" tail codes are based out of Eielson AFB in Alaska, and the paint schemes (often referred to as "Flanker" camo) are put on aircraft that are used as aggressors in exercises like Red Flag.

Sweet. I know there are probably good reasons for it, but the regular grey camo scheme is so boring. But awesome black and white contrast schemes on the other hand...

'Tis a replica, for among other reasons, it has landing gear. Original ME-163s were mounted on little wheeled sleds for takeoff.

DINO DAMAGE
So yesterday I was hanging around the Blackbird Airpark at Edwards AFB talking twith a former SR-71 RSO trainer. He saw my car and started yakking about his Munsters car and George Barris stories.

As we were leaving, he asked if he could get a picture of the car in between the planes. He moved the stanchions and info plaques while I :awesome:'d and moved the car.

It was a pretty good day.

I love the Phantom. Particularly love the Royal Navy version, they had to extend the nose gear by 40 inches to get it to land on our carriers. It just looks so goofy and awesome sat on the ground.

Yes, there are 4 of them, all in use several times a month, moving sections and wings of the 787 from all over the world to final assembly in Everett.

RV-10 panel all glassed out with current tech. The lack of any personal touches is because the builder didn't build this for himself, but posted it for sale "ready for paint job of buyer's choice" - building for profit violates the intent of the experimental aircraft laws and has furrowed some legislative brows. Not good.

Can anyone identify this plane? I was visiting an abbey in Yorkshire yesterday when this plane buzzed the abbey at a few hundred feet. Other than getting this relatively lucky shot and knowing it's not a Spitfire, I have no idea what it could be. You can faintly make out what I think are RAF roundels on each wing.
