Merijn posted:[edit] Can we turn on the IRC wordfilter for a few hours? Do we still have it? Short answer: No. Only reason that could be implemented at the time was because kalleboo hosted one of the servers on the network. That doesn't happen now and we have nominally 3 servers but right now we are limping along on 2: kiri.hub, katrina.irc and dickshield.irc (dickshield is still down for the time being). As far as I know Winkie pays for all 3.

Anyone know how much space is left on the server for uploads? I'm guessing it's plenty.

I wonder how long it would take to play all the songs on the server. Also, what's the longest song?

gently caress, it's good to be back. I've missed having lots of comments, lots of votes and a long playlist with stuff I've never heard. New listeners: The unique brand of humor that has developed on GBS-FM over the past 6 (poo poo, seriously?) years is grating but affable. You'll get used to it soon enough, and there's plenty of wheat among the chaff. I credit an incredible widening of my musical tastes directly to GBS-FM over the years. It is A Good Thing. (for those wondering how it differs from Spotify/Last.fm/etc is purely in the community and unpredictability of it. On Spotify you get "similar" artists, but will never encounter a completely leftfield option you didn't know existed and couldn't see yourself liking prior to hearing it. Here's to a good run into the far future and new fridge magnets

I didn't think it was even possible to upload such huge mp3 files. My FTP client was repeatedly timing out trying to upload segments of Beethoven's 9th, the longest of which is 17 minutes (24MB).

If GBS ever decided to get a theme song, it would have to be Bob Pokosy.

It should be possible, the maximum file size is set around 75MB if I remember correctly. The ftp server is just a bit moody at times, but at least it resumes uploads (usually).

I wasn't sure what the response would be when I queued the first one, but it seemed to go down quite well. The tracks come from various places, some of them have been transferred from my own collection of 78s, some are from compilation LPs and a few I found on a music sharing site (back when those things still existed). I'll certainly be adding some more - so far they have all been electrical recordings from the mid 20s onwards but I'll be uploading some earlier acoustically recorded stuff later on

I see like 51 listeners currently, and tons of songs on the playlist. But where are all the votes and comments? I'm really keen on hearing peoples' opinions on what's playing. edit: VVV I meant they don't seem to garner that many votes per play considering how many people are ostensibly listening at any one time...
