yeah Can are the quintessential krautrock band. Tago Mago, Ege Bamyasi and Future Days are all completely amazing. I'd also second Amon Duul II, and listen to Faust as well. Faust IV is the first album I got by them and it's wicked

Does anyone have any suggestions for other heavier psychedelic but old-school rock like this? I have King Crimson, which is really good but definitely lighter and more airy. "Man" is straight rockin'. The Thirteenth Floor Elevators are a bit closer, but still not as hard as Illusion. Any and all help is appreciated!

I'm actually posting for a specific request this time! I recently discovered the song Bird's Eye which is a collaboration by Serj Tankian and Mike Patton, and something about this song really catches me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WG92w4_aAZM Does anyone know of any songs similar to this one? "Nuages" is a great album from 1997 with 4 disks, but it doesn't have some of his other best-known classics like Minor Swing or Djangology. It sounds cheesy but "The Definitive Django Reinhardt Collection" has all of his best known stuff right in the first tracks. For sure - I grew up in the same French village where he spent his final years and knew a lot of his direct descendants, so had been exposed to his music and his legacy a lot throughout the years, the jazz manouche influence is still strong there. Ive been looking for some more rock that has the classic 90's music sound, like incubus, The Sleeping and Pink Floyd? A rock sound in which it has a lot of the harder rock aspects but you can still hear them singing, its not all screaming.

Uh, there are a couple people with this name but she has only got this one album right now anyway. Emilie Simon - March of the Empress. Not her other albums which are more straightforward pop stuff (albeit with quirky sound design). Silje Nes - Ames Room is a possibility, reminds me of Tujiko Noriko's earlier solo stuff sometimes, but more song-y/not as out there. She has got a new album out that's more straightforward. Maybe Lullatone, I don't much care for them myself... Mum and Bjork are probably obvious.
