My company is hiring a software tester with development skills. The work would be automating a number of test procedures, so at least it is a little bit

Here's the posting, and what's required:
Required Skills:
* Networking and Internet technologies
* Knowledge of satellite communications and network management
* Familiarity with Windows and Linux
* Experience with formal testing methodologies
* Automated test system development
* C++
* Labview.
* Scripting Language Programming (Perl, bash etc.)
* Excellent oral and written communications skills

We make satellite communications equipment, and we're located in Kanata/Ottawa, Ontario. The testing is mostly linux based firmware, but there is some hardware and some windows software as well.

Email me at josh(dot)tavares(at)gmail(dot)com if you want more information.

The hiring manager used to be my boss and is a good friend so I could probably hook someone up quite easily if they have the right skillset.

All right, so my old job has been posted. This is a great role for someone who's done helpdesk or basic IT work for 3 years and wants to do a little more. Advancement - not sure how much is going to lead to other positions, as they only have one network/systems admin and the company is not necessarily the highest tech. However, it's an amazing work environment with really nice users and a great place to study up on the basics.

Here's the details from the posting, feel free to PM me with links to your resume in Word .doc format or email them to me directly at mjpbyron at gmail dot com.

The BS in comp sci is definitely not a requirement as mine was in political science.

Shifts are 8-5 but they might start rotating 7-4, 8-5, 9-6. On-call is once every 8-9 weeks or so. Big plusses are experience with Macs, Office 2007, some basic Server 2k3 admin work, etc. It's in Iselin, NJ.

I am definitely happy to answer questions, of course. Don't hesitate to PM or email.

Assist with network and hardware upgrades as well as assist in evaluating new & emerging technologies.
Meet customer and user expectations (responsiveness, follow-up, courtesy, professionalism).
Develop and document problem resolution process.
Perform other duties as assigned and as relevant to the position.

Eligibility requirements: BS in Computer science or related discipline. 3+ years work experience (or equivalent work/training equivalent). Must be experienced in the following: computer support, helpdesk environments, call tracking software, advanced desktop and laptop troubleshooting, 2nd and 3rd level end user support, Ms-office 2003/2007 Suites, Symantec Virus protection, Windows XP and Windows 7. Well, just had the temporary position that I was in that had a "great chance" of going permanent end on me, so I might as well give this a shot, yeah?

My experience: 2 years providing tier 1 and 6 months providing tier 2 customer support at a large internet data center, including OS-, hardware-, and network-level outages (familiar with Win Server 2000/2003/2008, CentOS/RHEL, and mildly familiar with FreeBSD/Debian); 8 months temporary position as a university departmental technical support agent, doing in-person tech support (general CJ work, plus a mild bit of Outlook/Exchange administration and a small bit of domain administration until the university locked down AD rights). Previously held a CCNA certification but it has since lapsed (no money to renew it).
What I'm looking for: Honestly? Something to pay the bills. Anything that can put my knowledge to work and make me feel appreciated is a bonus.
What I'm NOT looking for: Something requiring field work/travel. I don't own a vehicle, and use public transit/my bicycle to get to work, so any job that has a problem with this is right out.

I just snagged an interview tomorrow at Convergys doing helpdesk support for NetApp. Some keywords that the HR Lady dropped were OSI layers, NFS, CIFS, NAS/SAN setup, and some unix commands.

I know what the majority of those are, but as far as practical applications of the above, I am lacking.

I have experience in a call center for ISP support, basic home/friend IT support, small business (under 10 employee) IT work (dell power-edge that only had to have the array rebuilt twice, occasional patch and reformat work, no domain or other network crazyness), and the lurking of SH/SC.

This looks to be a serious step up and a challenge, but any suggestions on what to brush up on and cover for tomorrow to help go from interview to butt in the chair? Obviously I'm going to inquire about initial training, but a foot up is a foot up.

Any help is appreciated.

I'm a Java EE developer in the Southeast US, where I've spent the last seven years developing Web applications, web services, and mainframe processes for one of the area's best-known insurance providers. I have other experience developing Web applications on different platforms, but the bulk of my career has been spent putting a modern face on a Big Iron infrastructure.

I'm looking for a position in the San Francisco, CA area. My wife's family lives there, and we've promised to make the move. If you're an employer in the area who needs a quality developer, let's talk. And even if you're not, I'd love to hear from anyone that has ever relocated to the Bay Area. This will be the first time I've ever moved that far out, and the advice / perspective of other folks would be greatly welcomed.

Contact me via email or PM. Thanks very much!
