Didn't you read the full context of what dur was saying? dur's comment about his correction being "a running joke" implies that his correction was more in jest based on an inside joke from his workplace, rather than him being anal about grammar. Either way, dur's point still stands since the reaction to his correction was completely over the top. Correcting someones grammar doesn't warrant something to the effect of "HE'S A LIBERAL SO gently caress HIM ARRGHHHHH!!!!!".

dur posted:Ugh, I didn't want this to be a Thing but christ, dude, it's some loving around between co-workers, not some spergy grammar nazi bullshit. Exactly! THIS is spergy grammer Nazi bullshit: Let's examine this post. PUNCHITCHEWIE posted:To be fair, the sperglords who correct "could of" because they are passive aggressive douchebags are pretty infuriating no matter where you stand on the political or educational spectrum. This is a pretty poorly organized sentence. First off, just take out "To be fair". Everybody knows that "To be fair" is a codeword for "I'm going to insult someone now and hope you're too thick to notice it's directed at you", and by using it others will deem your post less worthy of being taken seriously. Next, it's a little confusing to read. Are you implying that ALL grammar correcting sperglords are passive aggressive douchebags? If so, you probably want to remove "because they are" after "'Could of'" and move "passive aggressive douchebags" to in front of sperglord, so it reads "the passive aggressive douchbag speglords who correct 'could of' are pretty infuriating..." The sentence also feels like a bit of a run-on. It's not as bad as it could be, but I feel that the sentence would benefit greatly from either additional commas, splitting it into two sentences, or removing some of the bloat. Cutting out the whole "because they are passive aggressive douchebags", for example, makes the sentence both much cleaner and removes the blatant insult towards the person you're commenting on. The last part of your sentence, "...no matter where you stand on the political or educational spectrum" seems a bit redundant, as it's already been stated that the the sperglord in question is a "Passive Aggressive Douchebag," and the sentence seems to go on for too long without pause. Perhaps a better solution would be to cut it down and move it somewhere that you can add a comma. So, instead of your original statement, I suggest the following alteration: "Regardless of your political views, the sperglords who correct "could of" are pretty infuriating." See? With some simple editorial effort, your post is now far less insulting, and is both slimmer and easier to read, communicating your point much more effectively and in a manner that will allow people to take you seriously.

I don't know if this is from an email or not, but my dad has apparently been getting some crazy ideas from somewhere. The other night he started arguing against universal health care because if they DO have universal healthcare, the government is going to take away the right to smoke and drink. The lynch pin of his argument was that the government already makes you wear your seatbelt, so it's only the natural conclusion to things. Then he brought up prohibition as proof that the government can and will do this. I don't even know how to respond to something like that.

I thought this one was especially fun because what you see is exactly how it arrived in my inbox (minus giant, green, Comic Sans font). I'm assuming there were, at some point along the forward chain, images of Christmas trees involved. However, someone somewhere decided that even with broken images, the core message about Allah plants (gotta work that Muslim-hate in there somehow, damnit!) and Hanukkah bushes ruining the true meaning of Christmas just had to continue being passed along anyway. quote:MERRY CHRISTMAS to ALL!!

In Turkey they have New Year trees, which are exactly the same as Christmas trees, minus any Santa and Jesus related decorations. Around December 25th Istanbul has loads of decorations up, and Santa occasionally makes an appearence in shop windows as well, so it feels very Christmassy.
