Not a crazy e-mail, but crazy nonetheless: A topic about the ethics of rape popped up on one of the forums I visit, and one of the members argues that rape is "okay" in cases of the woman "saying no, but meaning yes/try harder" and if she's a "dumb slut/stupid bitch". She (yes, it's a woman. One who frequently complains about sexual harassment from men because she apparently has huge knockers, no less) then posts this website: http://www.falserape.net/ I haven't really had the time to dissect the website (yet), but at first sight I can already see some things that are patently false (like false rape reports being up to 40%) but I figured some of you are much better at this than me, anyway Also, the URL looks familiar, does anyone know if it's been adressed somewhere before? That person just needs a quote from the US Consitution she worships soooo much.quote:The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration. What, you're telling me strict constructionists read the constitution like the bible, quoting the stuff they love and proclaiming to to be right while ignoring the parts that are "hard" or disagree with them? Noooooo. edit: Also the commerce clause and the 14th amendment. They like parts of 1, a misreading of 2, they're cool with 3, lets skip some, with an over reading of 9 and 10, 11 and 12 confuse them, 13 they pay lip service to, there is no 14, 15 means everything's cool, and so on. nm fucked around with this message at 18:49 on Feb 15, 2011 |

I don't remember how that debate ended up going (it was around the height of the hysteria last year, shortly before Obama destroyed America with health care reform) but I'm pretty confident that nothing I could have said would have shut her up. I wasn't even defending the health care bill in the first place - I was obviously just a convenient proxy because it's hard to yell at the president directly.

I sent out a stupid email to a state rep today, figured this would be a good enough place to share it. Background, Feb. 8th in front of the Kansas House Federal and State Committee Rep Connie O'Brien claimed to have seen an illegal alien qualify for financial aid, while her son (whom she claims is paying for college 100% on his own) did not. The following exchange took place: REP SEAN GATEWOOD (D-Topeka) - Can you expand on how you could tell that they were illegal? REP CONNIE O’BRIEN (R-Tonganoxie) - Well she wasn’t black, she wasn’t Asian, and she had the olive complexion. Full transcript here: http://www.kansasdems.org/files/OBRIENTESTIMONY.pdf My email that will be promptly ignored by her but maybe will make one of you smile: Dear Rep O'Brien, Since you have recently obtained the ability to read minds, proved through your uncanny ability to tell the nationality and legal status of people with simply a glance, I would hope that you could make best use of your new found abilities by leaving your elected government office and perhaps entering into national security. Imagine the great benefits you could bring by reading the minds of detainees or terrorist suspects, you could instantly glean the necessary security information with your cold penetrating stare. You'd potentially save the lives of millions! If you join the CIA you could use this telekinesis to quickly obtain detailed classified information that would otherwise take years to gather. The United States could then use this information to protect ourselves and continue the fight for security and safety of all Americans; assisting in the upholding of the great ideals our country operates on. That people should be free of repression, hate and "...not be judged by the color of their skin, but the content of their character." But, if you consider clandestine service too dangerous then I still encourage you to step down and use these new super powers by becoming a judge! With these abilities you could streamline the judicial system and eliminate wrongful convictions. At the very least as a local police detective you could help reduce crime and wrongful arrests. If you still want to be in the limelight we might be able to get you a show on the Discovery Channel about your exploits! It would be fun and your experience testifying before the Kansas House Federal and State Committee surely cements your solid acting credentials. In fact, I think some people might have even been fooled into believing that you knew what you were talking about! In conclusion, I once again implore you to leave elected office quickly and use your powerful super human abilities in a more appropriate facility that brings the full benefits of your gifts to this great country. If it doesn't work out, traveling circuses are always looking for age & weight guessers. Sincerely (moderately), --Edited for privacy-- Feel free to fill her email box: connie.obrien@house.ks.gov

As another poster already stated, this practice is nothing new. On my return trip from Iraq in '04 we encountered the same craziness going through customs and once again flying back to Bragg. None of this poo poo has anything to do with who is President and everything to do with dumb, excited kids trying to bring back incredibly dangerous items from a warzone. In my experience with the more hard core conservative soldiers their main focus is just to be anti-Democratic. Within months of Obama being elected I heard soldiers complaining that he was going to take away the new GI Bill and lamenting the fact that McCain hadn't been elected, not realizing that Obama was a strong proponent of the bill and McCain had been against it.
