So "How Did This Get Made" is hilarious, just half an hour of Paul Sheer, El Cunado, random funny chick and guests just ripping on really bad movies.

Does anything similar exist for music by any chance?

The Flop House is similar. Not as many famous people but I enjoy it. One of the guys is a writer for Jon Stewart.

Tell 'Em Steve Dave this week has Walt trying to explain how viral videos on YouTube are the work of the Illuminati or similar conspiracy. Also, music can apparently make people go out and commit murder.

I think I'm going to have to drop this one.

Sklarboro Country with Amy Poehler was pretty cool, though.

I know everyone thinks Walt is loving crazy, but people need to realize that he is partly that was just for the podcast. While he does have some weird views, they will no doubt take them to the extreme for the sake of comedy.

The best part is how there are already about 9 pages of 1 star reviews on Itunes. I wonder if he realizes that the kind of people who listen to podcasts tend to be far more aware of what he's about than his average audience.

Also skimming through the first one I found this gem (it's about 20 "bro"s in), this is sad. He's basically trying to force a WTF-style interview segment. And the people he's asking the question of? They're all part of his little entourage and tour with him, so it's completely disingenuous.

quote:

Now in all seriousness, and to me this is what's cool about a podcast, is that you don't have to be funny all the time(), what's the flaw that got you guys into comedy?
Then he jumps right into "I already know what yours is!!" directed at Brad Williams, who is a dwarf comic. Nice!

It is not a good podcast (big surprise) - I had some time this afternoon and listened to 20 minutes of the most recent episode.

He's trying to copy the comedian with buddies format, and it just falls flat. He's not funny enough on his own to make this work. And of course, Mr. Ed Holness tries to really mex it up, and it just comes off poorly.

I kind of want to see Louis CK to go on there, so that way there's at least one mexican on an episode.
Or, poo poo, even one comedian.

I think this was the best Sklarbro country so far, Amy Poehler was hilarious, the stories were all funny, and then of course James Adomian as Jessie Ventura killed it with his outing of the Jewish conspiracy (namely that there is no such thing as a Jewish person).

Having been in high school in the early 2000s though my favorite part was: "Do you think Fred Durst right before he goes to bed reflects back and says 'I did it all for the nookie' and then a voice answers back 'what?' and he says 'the nookie' but he never gets to talk about the cookie."

Has anyone tried using the sponsorship codes for audible that Nerdist/WTF/DLM/etc gave out? I guess they expire after a month or so. I have a long road trip coming up, and I'd love to stock up on some audiobooks.

The codes I've used so far are DLM, WTF, WTFPOD, NERDIST, & ACE to no avail.

One of the things that makes WTF so compelling is that he's bringing on guests that he either knows that he has a bad history with or assumes that he does. It's easy to invite over your lifelong friends; different story to do what he's doing. There were a few episodes that could have been just crap for shock value (Dane Cook, Carlos Mencia), but those ended up being amazing interviews.

The Rogan episode is great, and I'm not particularly a fan of the guy.

And that's why I was forced to surgically attach your hands to your face.
I like how sometimes he has had legitimate issues with the people, and other times, with Louis CK or Mike Birbiglia for example, Maron basically said "So I was a dick to you a lot - what was up with that?"

Joe didn't like how Maron painted himself as a bully during the Mencia interview. But Joe is a very 'positive vibes' kind of guy, which probably changed his tune towards doing Maron's podcast.

Also Maron will be doing the Joe Rogan Experience sooner or later.

quote:

25:17 – Jah is trying to remember where he got arrested in North Carolina. It was Asheville. He got arrested for mushrooms there this year. They were a gift from a UYD listener. It was a Schedule 1 offense where he was. In the counties outside of it it would’ve been a misdemeanor ticket, but he was facing 15 months in prison for it. Jah said it was fine now because he’s adhering to his probation. Seth says the real reason it’s fine is because they got ahold of Jah’s dad. Jah was playing a show, and when he got off stage, the guy corralled them all in the green room and searched their stuff. No one else on the tour had a stitch of drugs on them, so Jah was the only one sinking the ship. While he was sitting in the police station, Jah saw some people. The dude closest to him sat down, his shoes were off and he had blood streaming down his face. He had split his forehead open. He had slammed directly into a brick wall in his car. He was 22 years old and kept saying “I’m going to jail, bro.” It was his third strike for DUI. Meanwhile Jah was just sitting there petrified, not wanting to be where he was. There was another guy next to this dude who kept asking if he could go to the bathroom. Everyone who was there, the police knew their first names. Finally let they let the dude go to the bathroom after 45 minutes, and about 10 minutes later, he walks out and has just poo poo all over the floor. Jah was beside himself. He said getting arrested in the South is the real deal – it’s not like getting arrested in Malibu.
