To be fair, when the parachute payments came in, everybody claimed it was going to create guaranteed bouncebackability for anyone getting relegated, and that clearly hasn't been the case. If anything, the point of the parachute payments was that teams coming up can invest in players and wages and not have to make a choice between being Derby County and going bankrupt if they go down.

I don't think anyone is denying that parachute payments are a good thing for the teams that get them. The point is how they distort the market for the other teams in the Championship that don't get them. It would be nice if teams did use them in order to stop themselves going bankrupt, but they don't, they use them to pay vastly higher wages than the rest of the league in at attempt to go straight back up. This tends to mean the clubs without parachute payments have to offer those higher wages in order to compete, and we end up in the ridiculous situation where most of the clubs in the Championship are massively in debt and/or constantly on the edge of going into administration.

I think this is a UK-only deal. Basically the BBC bid for games last time, which drove up the price, and they've spent their budget other places so now Sky's the only game in town and the price is a lot lower.

I think for international companies to be interested in championship games the time slots would have to improve. Thursday and Friday evening games won't work in the rest of the world because these games would either be on during work hours during the week west of the UK, and very late at night east of the UK. The other games are of course at 3PM on saturday when the Premier League is already king and anyone with sense would broadcast a Premier League game over a Championship game in the same time slot. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evening games work for the Champions League and Europa League because you're talking about elite teams in international competition rather than Cardiff, Norwich, and Scunthorpe.

Sky is reporting that Stan Kroenke is making a move for Danny Fiszman and Nina Bracewell-Smith's shares. That would put him at about 46 percent and he would then launch a takeover bid. I can't say I'm at all pleased that we're to pass from multiple ownership into the hands of one man, but at least it's an insider. It's someone we've grown to trust. Someone who isn't leverage us against ourselves, but rather has the cash to buy us and the knowledge that he can increase our value without having to gut the team. I imagine the day to day running of the club won't change drastically, but we will see American pre-season tours, more international image use and stuff like that. Of course, I may be wrong. If he turns out to be Abramovic Mark 3 (City have the Mark 2 already) I'll be upset. If he turns out to be the Glazers or Hicks&Gillet's successor then I'll die cursing the names Fitszman and Bracewell Smith.

Dude bought the St Louis NFL team for like $700 million, I think he could probably afford Arsenal. I guess this was inevitable, since Fiszman just learned he has cancer, and Lady Nina has been looking to offload for a while now. Better him then the russian oligarch, I guess.

No.1 issue with this for me is that stan keeps the fanshare scheme (he will, iirc he was one of its biggest supporters on the board) and lets any small fan shareholders keep their stakes.

Yeah I'd like Davin Dein back too, the work he did together with Wenger can not be understated. Depends if the rest of the board wants him back after the stunts he pulled that made him leave in the first place. He wants to get back into football (iirc he tried to get a job at Liverpool in january), he knows the club and he's got a good relationship with Wenger too.
