Holding it down for a second goes right to voice recognition search. There are certain pre-installed apps on the EVO 3D that are not installed from the Android Market (e.g.: Flash, Google Search, etc.). My questions are: 1) What happens if I decide to install the Market version - will it show up as a separate app or will it replace the existing one? 2) What if I leave the current app and an update becomes available on the market? Will it upgrade my app or will it ignore my phone? I really can't wait for an unlocked bootloader.

As soon as I held it in my hand, I knew it must be mine. Now the new concern: How fast can I get this thing and can I get EPRP rates w/o buying it online? I was only passing by so I didn't have time to ask the sales reps anything. Can I transfer my number from AT&T, buy the EPRP rate online, then pick up the phone in the store? I'm somehow thinking this isn't really possible but I am an impatient man who gets off work in 2 hours and would love to have a new phone before I'm home. Can't buy from Radioshack. Sprint Corporate only. Follow the links in the OP, setup everything, and just order online. A day or two wait is worth it to get it setup correctly. Remember to use one of the Sprint Goon referrals that are listed in the OP, it makes them look good as well.

Pretty sure it's a fake but that'd be pretty awesome if the camera was actually detachable like that. Edit: Crap, I need to make sure I'm getting the right thing here. Does the Everything Plus™ Data - with Any Mobile, Anytime plan have messaging on it? It doesn't actually state anywhere how much messaging costs, just that there are 500 minutes of calling and unlimited data... the OP doesn't even have "messaging" as a part of the unlimited data plan. change my name posted:Just got my 3d and I'm actually posting from it now. First thoughts: the screen is beautiful, and everything just seems so intuitive, even if that's more of an android thing. The keyboards are great, even the portrait one. I definitely like the dedicated button that hides the keyboard. Everything seems super smooth and fast, and the 3d is cool even if I have to hold the phone at arms length straight out for it to work. You're hitting the little Q button when you shift from portrait to landscape, I'd guess. What do you mean by "dedicated button that hides the keyboard"? You shouldn't have to hold the phone far away to make it work, unless you have like, fish eyes or something.

There's a button on the keyboard that drops it, which I thought was a nice touch since I don't think apple does it.

Hoping this is the right thread for this. So I've been happily running a custom ROM for a while now on my Sprint Evo 4G but in the past few months, the touchscreen has developed an incredibly irritating bug where the top right corner is overly touch-sensitive, registering a nonexistent touch over and over and over again. This of course means calling people I don't want to call, turning on stuff in the tray that I don't want to turn on, removing widgets I don't want to remove, etc etc. The worst side effect is toggling the Refresh button on the browser once every second so pages just spin through a loading cycle without ever completing. Toggling power on/off fixes the issue for maybe five seconds, sometimes ten, sometimes an hour. Some other days the issue is completely gone. Needless to say, frustrating. It was recommended that I flash a different ROM, and I tried several without effect. I have the $7/mo insurance plan and I want to return the phone and almost certainly get a new one, as I doubt this is a fixable issue. I've successfully unrooted and flashed back to stock, and I wanna take this phone in for inspection today or tomorrow to get the ball rolling on a replacement. Are they gonna be suspicious that there's n o t h i n g on the phone, as far as apps or contacts or even email accounts, etc? The OS and screens look like the phone literally just came out of the box, except the hardware is clearly a year old. I know that if they dig around on the SD card, they'll find my nandroid backup, and some other stuff. Should I care? Am I overly paranoid? I really like my phone and don't want my warranty voided. rivetz fucked around with this message at 02:55 on Jun 30, 2011 |

But to be fair, I am sure a lot of issues people come in with are software related.

More impressions: whoever thought it was a good idea to throw the sd card slot functionally under the battery must've been retarded. Why even include the option of unmounting the memory card if you absolutely have to shut it off to swap? Also the bottom buttons must be really sensitive, because just hovering over the Q/thumb on the corner still seems to trigger the voice to text thing. Besides that, I love this phone. It's crazy how it can run pretty much anything I throw at it perfectly, including n64 games (considering my tablet can't).

If it was possible to remove the sdcard without powering off the phone, then it would be very easy to ruin it. SDcards use a lazy writing system in most implementations, and can have data cached for writing for some amount of time. Also apps can be using the card actively - many apps store data on the sdcard, or are sourcing media from the card, whether or not they are installed there. I can't think of many reasons to actually remove the card anyway, given the massive number of connectivity options. Bluetooth file transfer, dropbox, USB drive (the phone is usable, unlike the Pre, when in USB mode), file sharing, FTP, stuff like Bump, email, DLNA... Also, I heard some complaints about the camera button sticking out too much on the EVO 3D. Mine sticks out a nearly imperceptible amount further than the 2D/3D switch. I have 002 hardware, maybe they changed something. If not, then I don't see the problem.

http://www.bgr.com/2011/06/27/googles-first-ice-cream-sandwich-phone-to-be-manufactured-by-samsung-possibly-dubbed-nexus-prime/ Good news it looks like the new Nexus (Nexus Prime) will be launched on multi carriers at the same time. So Sprint may get it at launch. Bad news it is not the HTC we saw leaked a month go (Samsung is doing it). Still looks like a pretty good phone spec wise (a 720p -resolution Super AMOLED HD display + 1.5Ghz dual core). Samsung by all accounts has done a great job with the SGS2, and I hope that continues to the Nexus Prime. If so I might be all over this. Sprint deserves a launch Nexus, and I think they will get one this time (it seems like so will everyone else).

I've had my EVO 3D since Saturday and I just noticed what look like two specs of dust under the screen. They're not scratches and no amount of wiping gets rid of them. They look like they're under the glass. Now that I've seen them, I can't unsee them. I wonder if Sprint would replace the phone with a new one for this, or if it's even worth it to try.

I got my 3Deez yesterday (coming from a Palm Pre), and I'm a little confused about the speech-to-text feature. It popped up and asked if it could record/store my voice so that it could learn my speech patterns better...but as far as I can see, there's no way for the phone to know when it's gotten something right or wrong. How does it learn if it doesn't know when it got things right?

Any suggestions concerning cases for the EVO 3D? I actually really like the rubber it already has on the back and just want something to prevent scratching and shattering on the front. I was going to just try some stuff from Radioshack but since Amazon has some really great prices, I figured I could buy something now if it had a good recommendation from here.

I literally just watched a piece of dust get stuck under the screen of my EVO 3D when I was wiping it off. It wasn't there, then a moment later it was. This is in addition to 3-4 other specs I just noticed today. My main concern it that this will just get worse with time (considering it's only been a week) - I think I may go into the Sprint store this weekend and exchange it. Has anyone done any exchanging for dust issues and did they give you any trouble, or won't they care since it's within the 30 days? Edit: Make that a lot more than 3-4. It's like every time I really look at the screen I'm noticing more and more specs along the edge of the screen. Generic Superhero fucked around with this message at 21:15 on Jun 30, 2011 |
