I have failed to finish System of the World several times, and when I pick it up I have no clue about what's going on so I'll have to start over. seriously, when this happens to me and I have to start over I take notes on every single new character that appears and write down who they are and what their purpose is. please post more paperback covers

Instantly the planet went up in flames. In the first half year of what was to be called the War of '92, half the Earth's population perished. The United States was reduced to a vast underpeopled land -- and, to make matters worse, Texas had seceded and taken her precious oil reserves. But Israel, virtually untouched in a world ravaged by war, was painfully overpopulated.

I really liked it as well, but I haven't tried the Baroque cycle. The other Stephenson I have read is just Snow Crash and Cryptonomicon. Diamond Age is on my list though. Here are some books. I'm not sure If I have read the Darkover one, though I have read some Darkover books. The cover is cool though.

mr_jim posted:"Prepare to embrace your creators in the stygian haunts of hell, barbarian" To be fair that could have been classic R E Howard, but: "With a loud crack the rodents head parted from its squirming torso, sending out a sprinking shower of crimson gore, and trailing a slimy string of disjointed vertebrae, snapped trachea, esophagus, and jugular, disjointed hyoid bone, morose purpled stretched hide, and blood seared muscles." Is obviously the forerunner of Party Poppers.
