i know it's a bideo game but if you're into spooky sci fi poo poo check out the first dead space

i only say this because it totally hammers home how loving hostile and horrible an environment such as deep space is, literally more than half the game is running around fixing systems to make sure you have poo poo like oxygen and gravity

i found the part when you're slowly crawling up the engine exhaust chamber more scary than any of the boogeymen throughout the whole game

dead space is just a rip off of the game Project Firestart

look it up

Edit: Sci-fi Bideogame Talk Extended:

Flashback still owns, still has a cool as poo poo intro.

i'm gonna find that game but dead space 1 still owns

e: wow charon you weren't loving kidding

also out of this world/another world, the games are so loving hard you're prob best looking up playthroughs on youtube or something, but the lack of narrative/exposition/explanation is pretty rad and one of those odd SNES games that's kind of haunting

wisdom. SS2 coming second. The start of Bioshock tried to match, but once you were amped up, it wasn't that scary.

dead space would've been cool if not for the tunnel vision FOV. i kept getting disoriented all the loving time when i tried to quickly turn around because a monster spawned behind you.

also it's full of cheap bad horror movie gimmicks and wasn't scary at all.

unlike system shock 2, a good game.

i got a sweet bug in my steam version where i'd always run 2x as fast as you were supposed to

i wondered why the "hold out against the scary meth heads" parts were so easy

I just think the Art gameplay is becoming to abstract, the realism of the old games is being chipped away at, and it's contemporaries are beating it in it's standard formats.

I think it's time for the romanticism of the series to end.

Anyone else like Tad Williams Otherland series? I enjoyed them but they were very slow. That's kind of his thing though, if the other series of his I have read (and enjoyed), Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn is any indication.

I dug Otherland but I don't mind relentlessly chugging away at books with way too many words in them. His pacing is pretty slow - I read a "short" story of his that felt like it took way too long to get to the point, but it's a nice ride so I don't mind it so much.

Also thanks to this thread I am finally reading the Ender books. 70% through Xenocide, think I liked the first two better but it's still alright and I'll read pretty much anything anyone puts in front of me anyway (except Technopoly, never again)

Otherland loving owns and is worth reading all of even though it's like longer than 8 bibles.

Also a lot of his ideas and predictions about metaverses and online social interactions in those books have sort of come true.
