They made a comic and artificially inflated it's "cult" popularity by literally giving it away. Now, I don't have a problem with this as a business venture. It's a great way to make money. But to go and buy a ticket to this movie, knowing it's likely a dumb piece of poo poo without anything beyond the packaging and ignore actual sci-fi releases in the sci fi thread is a bit disappointing.
