I don't think you'll really have to worry about finding a cheap place to buy GunXSword, since FUNimation has it up for free on their youtube channel.

Netflix as well, if anyone has that. Speaking of, I saw they have a show called Gad Guard? Haven't watched it yet because I'm trying to work through some other shows at the moment, but is it any good?

I'd still need to find out the status on Zeorymer, Mazinkaiser, and the two Getter Robo OVAs that were released in the states, and I guess VOTOMS was lost in the annals of time so I could add that under the "unlicensed" stuff. I'd like to recommend Raijin-Oh, and even though they are up to three DVDs as of July, I have this bad feeling it won't see completion, much like Machine Robo (though that one was bad). No Giant Robo? You're dead to me.

Rumor is that Tomino is going to be announcing his next project at Charahobby and back in March he mentioned in a magazine he'd be intreasted in doing more Ideon but who knows really. Happy Tomino doing Ideon would just end up being weird.

It looks like the Five Star Stories mecha, which makes sense since Gothicmade looks like "a much shorter and hopefully more coherent Five Star Stories". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmqNfh5u6-I&hd=1 Worth noting that he animated this entire thing himself, which is pretty impressive. He's a major vet in the industry.

I'm interested to see what it's like more because of Nagano's reputation for egotism and what have you more than anything else since I'm not familiar with any of his work beyond the first issue or two of Five Star Stories.

He's mostly been in the background doing lots of mech/chara designs(including the pimpest design in Zeta Gundam). I always wondered how much input beyond designs he had on L-Gaim though, since that was kind of an FSS-lite. He also did illustrations for the Schell Bullet novel, which until now I didn't realize was written by Ikuhara.

From what I've heard while he didn't do the series composition or write any of the scripts Nagano wrote the character back stories when he was doing design work. FSS came about because Nagano was disappointed in L.Gaim as a series.

That he disliked L-Gaim and basically wrote 5 Star Stories as what he imagined L-Gaim should have been, reusing character and plot details willy nilly. No idea how true it is though given that I read it on /m/ and haven't seen either of the two shows (well, one show/one manga) in question.

Tribladeofchaos posted:If that's true that's kind of a shame. I really enjoyed L-Gaim, at least much better than Dunbine at least. I just find L-Gaim interesting in the fact that it feels like a prototype ZZ Gundam, with its cast of young punk protagonists, whacky antagonists, and early-episode light tone. It's almost weirder than ZZ, though, since while ZZ feels schizophrenic in relation to its predecessor, L-Gaim has its weird tonal whip-lash between and sometimes within its own episodes. Early on, one episode might feature the villain being thwarted in a comical fashion, usually involving an explosion leaving the badguys covered in soot and ash, but the next episode would feature the same villains in the same situations DYING. Hell, one episode featured one villain dying while her underlings survived the same battle humorously unscathed. I've also noticed similarities in the overall character arcs of Daba Myroad and Quattro Bajeena. Young princes who assume new names to fight as soldiers in the revolution against the tyrannical government, but ultimately must accept their destinies as the revolutions' leaders, taking back their old names in the process as recognition of that fact. Of course, Daba's arc is much more simplified, seeing as he's not a central character of a decade-spanning franchise, but the similarities are there and it's kind of neat seeing how Tomino reuses and recycles ideas from one series to the next (besides "Adults are the enemy."). Wish /m/subs would hurry up and finish translating the series, though. At this rate I'll be old and gray by the time they're through. That and Layzner.

Armageddon's ending has nothing to do with New Getter's ending, fyi. Armageddon kind of just reused imagery from the Shin Getter manga without rhyme or reason. New Getter Robo is basically the Getter Robo and Shin Getter Robo manga compressed and modified somewhat (no Dinosaur empire, just Oni). It's probably the best Getter anime as a result. I'd recommend checking out the manga though. What they do with the Getter is pretty neat.

Well, that part isn't translated yet (the big Getter). Go over to Dynamic Pro Scanlations (currently for porny Devilman sequels/spinoffs) and give all the Getter Robo releases they have a read in preparation for that. And remember

It was more that I now understand that just fighting in space forever is an ending than anything else. New was definitely way more together and had a real story compared to "ok if you thought the world getting exploded by a nuclear missile was big you ain't seen nothin' yet" but everything just getting increasingly over the top in Armageddon had a certain charm to it, especially the secret of autism. Time to manga it up.

Reading the first volume of Getter Robo and Hayato just cut a guy's ears off with his finger nails and then Ryouma karate chopped the head off of a dog and now a mechabeast with dinosaurs for arms just spewed up some dinosaurs to attack them at school. Everyone looks really weird compared to what I'm used to from the animated stuff, but it is nice to see everyone having a crazy face has been around since the start.
