Cream-of-Plenty posted:That makes things easier. Now, either through FNVEdit or GECK, open up AAS and bring up the helmet. You should be able to see what parts of the face and head are selected to be covered while wearing it. I imagine that something has changed here. If not, you might as well tell it to cover your whole stupid face anyway. The only thing that AAS modifies is stats, doesn't touch anything else.

it's very possible that the helmet is not flagged to replace hair by default but that you're using non-stock hair that clips through it. The only way to fix it is to flag the offending helmet as hair/helmet/hat or whatever.

I'm looking to maybe add a weather and/or lighting mod to an upcoming replay of NV. But is there any mod of this kind that really only modifies the vanilla weather to look a bit more beautiful without adding rain, sandstorms, radstorms or what have you? Even the Nevada Skies Vanilla option seems to add rain for example, which I don't really want in the Mojave. I've looked around and can't seem to find what I'm looking for so I figured I'd ask here and see if there exists any modifications that are more minor or subtle.

Leinadi posted:I'm looking to maybe add a weather and/or lighting mod to an upcoming replay of NV. Off the top of my head, Nevada Skies 0.6.3 can do this. The mod gives you something called a "Hygrograph" that allows you to control the weather effects. If you enable the Hygrograph's cheat menu, you can completely disable additional weather types like Sandstorms and Rainstorms. The author felt the need to make it seem like something bad would happen if you enabled this menu, when in reality none of the cheat menu options can even be considered cheats more than, "I don't want this extra poo poo in my game." Another mod to keep an eye on is Project Reality, of which Version 4 *should* be released soon. The author has explained that there will be a lot of configurable features in it, and IMHO Project Reality probably has some of the best visual quality of the Weather Mod bunch.

Thanks for the nice answer! Been looking at Project Reality also and while it does look nice on its own, it's a bit bleak for my tastes judging from screenshots. I want the Mojave to feel... well, warm, hot and desert-y and PR seemed to go for a more bleak, STALKER-ish mood. Thanks for the tip on Nevada Skies, will see if I can maybe configure it to my tastes.

Nevada Skies has URWL attached to it now, that makes the daytime lighting seem really colorful and almost cartoony. Another good option is Fellout and Nevada Skies with the weather options switched off. Fellout removes the orange filter and slightly tweaks the light settings, whereas NS adds new skyboxes etc.

Ddraig posted:Nevada Skies has URWL attached to it now, that makes the daytime lighting seem really colorful and almost cartoony. Doesn't Fellout have some issues in and around the Strip? I've been reading a lot of complaints regarding how pitch black Freeside is at night while using it.

Freeside is fine, the strip doesn't really have any huge problems either. I do use Simple Street Lights too, so maybe that's helping. The major issue with Freeside, I find, is that for some reason Nevada Skies loves throwing sandstorms/radstorms in that area, that completely disappear once you actually enter the strip I think I've modded my game so much that it's just a clusterfuck now. I think I'm going to redownload the entire game from steam and start fresh once all the compatibility patches for the new DLC and poo poo comes out. The real killer is that for whatever reason FNVedit doesn't work for me anymore. I've heard that the reason is that the latest patch slightly alters the default esm so FNVedit assumes it isn't loaded because it has checksum check for it and there's no match. It would also be neat to check out Project Reality 4 on a clean install.

I might actually try giving that Electro-lights mod a go, possibly coupled with Fellout. That should at least make the world feel a bit more vibrant in a certain sense. Ah, will check it out tomorrow I suppose.

Electro City used to be a rather cool mod but like most good things it's become severely bloated and adds a ton of features that nobody really wanted. Simple Street Lights, which is in the OP, is a much better alternative.

Yeah, one thing that looks worrying to me though is that there are comments that the Strip is basically not lit up when compared to everything else? Small detail perhaps but I think (given the light pollution present even in vanilla NV) that it should really feel bright when you enter. But you're right, Simple Street Lights does look a lot more "down to earth" than Electro-Lights.

To be honest, the strip looks fine no matter what mod you use. The Lucky 38 is like a huge pillar of light, and the other casinos add a ton of light too. If people are interested, I might put something together. I'd like to know what weapons goons consider appropriate for each faction, though. Like, more tactical and modern weapons for NCR, cowboy/old west firearms for powder gangers, melee weapons for Legion, etc. When I did this for Fallout 3, I had about 15 to 20 weapons I had downloaded spread across the wastes via scripts which themselves ran via quests, so there was no interference with other leveled lists. It always turned out alright. Obviously, the Armory increases the workload drastically, but I can give it a shot. This would be for NPC leveled lists only, though. Anyone interested?

Tried out the new Project Reality v4 release. Sadly, as much as I was anticipating it, I am probably going to end up uninstalling it. The haze/fog the author added looks kind of exaggerated, which I could deal with but I feel like it is cutting into my frame rates a bit (in Zion right now with lots of vistas). So far there doesn't seem to be a control for it, and it looks like a few other people are having 'white mountains' issues.

It's more of a jab at the authors that are too lazy to, you know, actually put their poo poo into the game without user-end goody boxes and console commands. Come on, your mod adds five items. Take 20 minutes and write a script to add them somewhere. by the way the leveled lists for 2.5 is going to take even longer because exams and no working FNVEdit

I switched it off and my framerate probably doubled. The author had said previously that it would have all kinds of customization, but I only see the same old options. Going to try getting MCM to see if he included a convoluted way to turn the fog off. Sadly Nevada Skies looks like it isn't really being supported anymore, and last time I tried the new URWL version it looked like a Road Runner cartoon. Edit: Looks like the MCM options were the same as the default ones. I turned off DoF and Heat Haze and it seems to be running better, and at least in Zion I'm not seeing the bleached out clouds. I'll have to take a look at the Mojave again when I finish this HH playthrough. graynull fucked around with this message at 03:22 on Sep 30, 2011 |

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF... I knew this was going to happen as soon as I stopped playing the game. I forgot how to get this thing running. I went and purchased every DLC for the game and installed 47 mods. Now the game crashes upon starting. I don't even know what the problem is. I think I may have done something idiotic. Some of the DLC created .bsa files which I ran and extracted to the Data folder and then deleted the .bsa files. I did this with mods as well. Was I supposed to leave those files there? My New Vegas exe is only at version 1.2. I have tried restarting Steam a few times and it never picks up any updates. Is there a way to force an update? I also kind of forgot how get NVSE running with FOMM and the 4GB exe. I'm starting to think I'm gonna have to wipe out everything and re-download it. 9GBs, ouchie. Any helpful ideas would be appreciated. This game was starting to grow on me. I feel like a Darwin award contender already. If my mod load order is needed, I can export it from BOSS or FOMM.

I still use plain old non-nevada-skies URWL as my weather mod of choice, all the new flavor poo poo just ends up being buggy or losing its luster after a week or so. Fallout will never look that great, it's just not written on a beautiful engine. At least URWL is consistent and unobtrusive.

I played a little around with the bloom in my shaders: Some Indoor shots: Some Outdoor shots (more because let's face it, they're more interesting) I consider these BETA because I'm not too sure about the blooming yet in every situation, even though it makes the distant horizon look very nice. effect.txt Instructions: Just replace the old effect.txt. You can find more info about this here Also, to add to the current talk, the delivered modified project reality that comes with these shaders has only 6 weathertypes, every type only a slight variation of the clouds with the same blue sky, doubt it gets more simple than that. There will be soon an .esp update where I plan to squish a few remaining problems. (Which are very minor)

TerryLennox posted:I don't even know what the problem is. As m2pt5 has pointed out, you are not supposed to delete those .bsa files. Deleting them quite effectively deletes the DLC, since most of the DLC content is packed into their respective .bsa files. You need to either re-download the DLC from Steam via your library or have Steam verify your cache's integrity, find everything you removed, and replace it. quote:My New Vegas exe is only at version 1.2. I have tried restarting Steam a few times and it never picks up any updates. Is there a way to force an update? While you were gone, many things changed. A patch was released prior to DLC Old World Blues dropping. One of the most popular executable replacements, the 3GB LAA (previously featured in the OP) went months without being updated to be compatible with Fallout. Eventually most people made the switch to the NVSE-compatible FNV4GB, which is currently listed in the OP, along with directions on how to use it. About a week ago, the 3GB LAA author released a version compatible with the latest version of Fallout, but I've been lazy and haven't felt like adding it back into the OP when there's a perfectly acceptable equivalent already there. I'm not sure why you're stuck on FalloutNV.exe version 1.2. It could possibly be because you're trying to load the game through a customized LAA executable that circumvents Steam and confuses it. Have you tried to load the game through the Steam control panel? quote:I'm starting to think I'm gonna have to wipe out everything and re-download it. 9GBs, ouchie. A load order won't really be necessary until you get your .bsa files back. Without them, there's no feasible way to figure out if your mods are causing additional problems beyond really terrible load orders. Get Steam to give you back all of your vanilla content (New Vegas and the DLCs) and see if you can get things running again. Then you can move on to mod / load order conflicts. That being said, I have the feeling that until you get your game patched to 1.4, you won't be able to run the game with the OWB and LR DLC loaded, anyway, since they rely on a NV version much later than 1.2.
