I liked RE5 more than RE4. It just felt a lot better made, to me, and cooler. I liked the setting a lot more.

Game Suggestions

Welcome to the party!

In terms of Killzone 3, a lot of goons on the forums have sour opinions towards it because of the choke point-y multiplayer maps, unbalanced classes and the single player wasn't too good either. I liked it for what it counts, but I'm not sure if much people still play it online.

Child of Eden is very pretty, but best played with a Move controller. I would also suggest you get it with a gameshare, as the whole game contains only 5 stages that you can play on different difficulties so it doesn't have much longetivity. The music is very charming j-pop by Genki Rockets if that's your thing.

I didn't see these on your list, but I though I'd reccommend some more:

Batman: Arkham Asylum if you enjoy action games. It's a great mix of Stealth and Brawling, not to mention the PS3 version comes with an exclusive Joker challenge level. It's also pretty cheap with the sequel coming out at the end of the month.

The God of War series. The whole series is on ps3 in HD, and they're all epic, visceral action games. They're all pretty reasonable priced too.

In terms of JRPG-esque games, Resonance of Fate and Nier are both pretty quirky japanese games that are underrated. A fair warning that both of them can be a bit grindy in terms of gameplay though.

Dead Space 1&2 have tightened Rsident Evil 4 controls, creepier plot, grotesque enemies and a lot of different weapons.

Aaaah you people are useless, I'm going to buy Odin Sphere and see for myself if the slowdown is still there. Tenbux is a pittance compared to what I have been spending on games recently (hello $90 plus shipping for importing Dark Souls).

Welp, Sony has just stated that all future first-party games with a multiplayer component will have an implementation of Online Pass, including Uncharted 3. Since I refuse to support this with my money, I guess I'll be purchasing Skyrim instead of Uncharted 3. I'll rent Uncharted 3 for the single player and pass on the multiplayer.

I beat it back in the day, but all my skills are gone. My advice is only to build up your square combos with easily linkable punches at the start. And just play keep away a lot. I'm still not quite sure how I used to flow through these fights like Neo.

Maybe I'm missing something, but why is this something to be so displeased about? It seems like a perfectly reasonable and inoffensive idea.

Probably abusing the poo poo out of the forward dodge (duck and weave). I'm almost tempted to say it became my most used input once I realized how useful it was, plus if I remember correctly it builds God Hand meter, so there's a bonus.

Great, now I have to NOT play Dark Souls for long enough for Odin Sphere to download. Do you realize how hard that is? My PS3 is like, right there! Not having Dark Souls being played on it! It feels so wrong.

This is correct. At first I kept using the backflip to avoid everything, until I realized that a ton of moves can be forward dodged; keep wailing on the stick and you'll dodge entire combos and earn huge bonuses, plus you can press triangle during the dodge to do a leg sweep.

RE4 spent half the drat game as an escort game and it was less painful than RE5 single-player. Hey, "partnah", quit fuckin running straight into Jill and Wesker's kill-zone gently caress that part in single player

You can get 1st hand (right terminology?) games for second hand prices eventually nowadays anyway, and I paid nearly 10 quid to play Uncharted 2 multiplayer since all the fun maps were DLC. So long as project $10 actually goes to the developers i'm game.

Of course in the UK we don't have an equivelant to Gamestop who will probably try to pass off second hand titles as brand new

PSOne classics from the US store work just fine on my "PAL" PS3, no reason to suspect there would be any issue with the PS2 classics.

There's one boss near the end of Gwen's part that has the worst slowdown though, I guess I won't know for sure until I get there.

Ok so I have exactly $17 left on my US PSN account. I can buy Street Fighter 3 and then never play it, or Castlevania HD. I really really like the DS Castlevania games. (REALLY LIKE) but everyone says HD was bad and dumb.

I haven't signed onto PSN in like, 7 months but nothing else really caught my attention.

This can't be correct. Outlaws to the End was free DLC for RDR, and included achievements. Though this may be a case of Rockstar being big enough to flout the rules. After taking $50 for exclusive GTA IV DLC, that's probably the case. Either way, there is a precedent for this kind of thing.

Also, I'm just loading up Demon's Souls for the first time. I'm ... I'm scared. Decided to prepare by reading the manual, something I never do. It was all in Chinese. Well, no guts no glory ...

Honestly, that's probably for the better. Demons's Souls is frustrating as hell until you get with the program (and it will kick your teeth in until you do), but it's really rewarding, and the best way to play is to figure it out for yourself as you go. If you find you really need some help, then pop in the Demon's Souls thread and ask there.

That is precisely the thing to do, Avatar.
I played enough RE5 to get the platinum trophy, and not a single second of it was done co-op with anyone else. It got a little frustrating on the highest difficulty, just because small mistakes are magnified, but no one thing with Shiva was as annoying as doing that rear end in a top hat Ndseu turret boss fight on Professional.

I didn't like it as much as RE4, but I still really enjoyed it. :colbert:

I have a move controller but not the navigation add-on. Is it worth buying RE5 and the nav con or does it play better with a regular dualshock controller? I have RE4 on the wii and though it was the best version, and I'm curious if RE5 is a similar experience.

Yeah, I really loved the premise. It would have been a nice way to potentially introduce a new IP (new guy walks into the bar; music stops and everyone turns to stare) or it could have even just run its course and ended on a fade. The Michael thing kind of ruined the feel.

I'm impressed with all the little things. Sony managed to entirely remove the necessity for "virtual memory cards", so you're not shuffling around these stupid cards like with the PSOne Classics. Every game has its own dedicated "save file" like the PS3 games do.

Does this mean my old ps2 memory card saves won't be compatible?
