I'm digging the new Mastodon, but I didn't at first. I liked Curl of the Burl quite a bit, but Black tongue turned me off of the whole album for a couple listens. Then I got into Stargasm and Dry Bone Valley. From there most of the album opened up to me. I don't see it as good as the previous three, but its still better than 99% of what is offered to us. Also, theres this: http://n3rdyta1k.com/2011/09/30/guyman-reviews-mastodon-the-hunter/

Rockabilly was punk before then and I doubt Danzig didn't take some cues from it. *Other than Kvelertak.

Could anyone recommend where I should start digging for getting into thrash? I've been listening to Toxic Holocaust and Skeletonwitch and would like to find more like this. As these suggest, I dig the blackened thrash thing, and anything that has the same kind of rock the gently caress out feel to it like the newer Darkthrone releases, Kvelertak, etc. Aura Noir are pretty cool. I like: Send More Paramedics Lich King Artillery Havok Destruction I know enough about the bigger names like Megadeth, Slayer, Metallica etc. Past these, I've heard a bit of those like Exodus, Testament, Kreator, Overkill, but don't really know where to start with all this. Help?

Just checked out 'Bored' and 'Truce' by Death Angel. Both are loving awesome, thanks! Seems both their older and newer stuff is great at a first glance. Looked up a few American Heritage songs... Not feeling it. Horned Almighty is interesting, I dig a lot of the "new old school" stuff. Cheers!

RHTITE posted:As a bring down on this joyous and important anniversary, I bring you a new Immolation song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SfAC6yHJ-f0&feature=player_embedded What are you talking about? This track slays like Immolation always does. So stoked to see them on Friday, with Jungle Rot and Gigan as support. vvvvv I'll admit that it doesn't hold up to my usual standards for Immolation, but I dug the track. As for simplistic breakdowns like that, they have done it in the past and it hasn't affected the songs negatively, and I didn't think it did in this track, either. They went for a more straight-forward style, but the Immolation riffing was certainly there. A TURGID FATSO fucked around with this message at 18:30 on Oct 8, 2011 |

On Majesty And Decay they could get away with a drop off in quality because it's fuckin Immolation and they were still ahead of pretty much everyone, but they can't get away with that on this album. It'll get you from point A to point B, and it'll get a crowd breaking their necks, but goddamn if we haven't heard this poo poo a million times before. Also, think about their previous albums. This stuff just doesn't hold up in comparison.

I don't even know if he is playing with Testament right now, or if this has any effect on the upcoming tour, but it's still news worth sharing. James Murphy (Testament, Obituary, Death/mixed tons of albums) 's brain tumor has come back. I know it's blabbermouth, but I've seen this confirmed by several of his friends on facebook as well. http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=164299 Oddly enough, this is the 3rd brain tumor of a Tampa-related musician (Chuck, Murphy and Curtis Beeson). Weird. Anyway, I'll keep posted about benefit shows or anything.

Bob was giving Providence to everyone, it's a solid EP but comparing it to Close To A World Below is just silly. I took some HD vids of their set that I'm gonna post once I get around to it. Thanks for the recommendations, guys. I really enjoyed Hexen, will be getting State of Insurgency. This is exactly what I'm after. Gospel of the Horns is sick, I love that evil rock and roll kinda thing. Same goes for Nifelheim. I think a lot of bands that try to do this sort of thing just sound really flat, but this owns. Deathwish, Destroyer 666 and Warbringer are good. Especially Deathwish. Chakal and Demolition Hammer are alright. Didn't dig Vulcano or Sarcofago much, though. I'll look at other tracks when I have some more time but they didn't really grab me. No-one mentioned them but in my search I've found Coroner and Municipal Waste. Yeaaah!

Anybody have recommendations for a good metal news site? I'm not a fan of death or black metal, just because I get turned off by the "look how extreme/evil we are" scene of it all, so a minimal number of stories on that would be good. I mostly listen to stoner/sludge/doom metal and thrashy stuff. I'll sometimes dip into metalcore or melo-death, but mostly just select albums here and there.

My favorite thrash band has always been The Haunted, in particular their first three albums.
