Whats a good music duplicate file/track remover? I'm curious to see how much poo poo has been accumulated in this decades old library I just inherited. Don't worry, I'm going to run it on a copy of the library first.

Usually the best way is to select this, sort the columns in some way that makes sense to you, and then select and delete.

But ever since moving to Lion, a lot of times the OS will just hang with the spinning indicator on a gray screen for a minute or 2 (or more.) Anybody have any else getting this? What the heck is the OS doing when all I want it do is shutdown? This probably means a background process is refusing to quit for some reason. It should be very quick to shut down when in the spinny screen, and should always be done within a minute. What you should do is hold command-V while booting, and you'll get the verbose boot, which shows the kernel log on screen. It'll also show it during shutdown instead of the spinny screen, so you can see what process it is complaining about on shutdown.

I've never used a 3rd party, but if they're duplicates because of something like that, you should be able to sort them by "date added" and get rid of the duplicates created the second or third time they were created.

I like how people talk about the "end of OS X" as if it actually means anything. Do you think the next one's going to be completely different or something? They'll just call it "Mac OS IIe" and it'll mostly be the same thing.

Yes because OS X was mostly just like OS 9.

Would they really have the balls to release something radically different? Last time somebody tried that (Vista) it got destroyed. People hate change. Just look at the extremely minor changes that Facebook makes.

The next generation of Mac OS is not going to require such a drastic retooling.

So I'm having a really bizarre issue with my computer. It seems that for some reason input from either the keyboard or mouse is being ignored. For example with my external Das Keyboard (attached via USB), about every 20th keystroke is ignored. This issue doesn't happen with the built-in keyboard. But for the mouse, I will be moving about the screen, and the pointer will inexplicably stop moving or move erratically. This problem exists for both the built-in trackpad or my bluetooth Magic Mouse Is there any sort of monitoring that I could do to see what the problem is? I feel like this is a software problem because it affects multiple devices, but if I need to head over to the hardware thread I can do so.

On another note, spellcheck on my system is going batty: Yesterday it wasn't working at all. Logging out fixes it, but since I've been having repeat issues it might be worth looking into. So, anyone seen this before? Edit - Apparently this one was just a browser bug. I'm sure that spellcheck was globally not working yesterday though. Also I spergily quit my apps before shutdown. Out of curiosity, why do you shut it down in the first place? Why don't you just close the lid (thus putting it to sleep) and go? I don't think I've deliberately turned a computer all the way off since 2003.

If anyone, Apple is often the best at scrapping the old and running headfirst into the future (even if people think it's too soon, or they didn't anticipate what the future might be). Sure, OSX is great, mature, and stable. But who's to say they're not currently working on the next big thing?

I imagine Sun getting bought by Oracle created all sorts of problems with that.

(or so we are lead to believe). I guess the major problem would be providing graphical tools to manage all the advanced stuff, like pools, etc.

I'm looking for something that will let me mix multiple audio inputs in a unified interface and output to another audio output. Really all I have to do is monitor levels and adjust them on the fly. Doesn't need to record or anything else. Everything I search for I come up with DJ MIX TWO MP3S AND BEAT MATCH and I just don't know what I'm really searching for.

I did a fresh install of Lion on my Late 2009 13" MBP and have been getting pinwheeling and hard locks every so often. Anyone take a bat at what it could be? TOP doesn't reveal anything hogging too much of a particular resource but I never had this issue with Snow Leopard. Hardware vs Software anyone have an idea where to start looking?
