I got an auto redemption from Bowman, but it doesn't say who. It just says You are due to receive a Bowman Chrome Prospect Base Auto from 2011 Bowman Baseball. I should send it in, right? Edit: A little Google sleuthing tells me its either Freddie Freeman, Aroldis Chapman, Darin Mastroianni, Jarred Cosart or Lars Anderson. Either of the first two wouldn't be bad. More edit: Cosart. But really, four and a half months before it ships? Monday_ fucked around with this message at 17:14 on Dec 3, 2011 |

A few new additions I hadn't gotten around to scanning: Couple Boys of Summer... And the big one... Absolutely love the T205 Matty, have been searching for an affordable one that displays well for years. It's in a SGC Authentic slab for possible trimming since it measures under specifications horizontally, which is a shame but had the side benefit of making it within my price range despite displaying about EXish depending on how friendly you are to T205 chipping issues.

That Mathewson is incredible. Looking through some cards I got this summer, I found one of these. It's probably at it's peak value now, what with his rookie of the year win and all, yes? I'm tempted to throw it up on Ebay starting at, say, $50. Does that seem about right? Should I bother getting it graded? It's got a slight spot on the surface, it probably wouldn't get more than an 8.

I would just sell it now, since this is probably going to be the peak of his value, short of winning 5 Cy Youngs.

Figured I'd post this here, but I came across all my old cards. Is it worth going through and listing them on eBay or here on SAMart? I have a ton of Nolan Ryan, Canseco, Glavine, Mattingly, Bonds, Frank Thomas, McGwire - basically all the stars from the late 80's, mid 90's. Have a signed Yastrzemski, etc. What should I do with all these? I don't care about top dollar, they just need to go somewhere/ to someone who gives a poo poo.

I wouldn't say they're worthless, but they won't get you much cash. I see plenty of auctions at eBay that are just large lots of cards from a particular year or years, and they do sell. I'd definitely go with eBay if you want to do this though, it'll get you a much wider audience than SA-Mart will.

I've been trying to track down a certain card and hopefully someone knows what I'm talking about. In the 90's, I had a Ken Griffey Jr. card that looked almost like a credit card and I believe was limited to like 500 or something. I have no idea what the set or even who the maker was. Anyone?

I received the cards today. Give me a couple of days to through everything and I will post any finds. Is there an online price guide you guys prefer or just beckett.com? FreelanceSocialist, I thought you had an unhealthy obsession with Scott Garrelts since you had 8 of his '90 Upper Decks but turns out they were error cards. You also made me cry since there were no Darryl Strawberrys but you redeemed yourself in the second to last page of the binder! Edit: And thanks for reminding me how ugly Donruss cards were, especially the '89 MVPs. jabro fucked around with this message at 07:27 on Dec 16, 2011 |

Can someone give me a rundown of how the various grades work and how easy/expensive it will be to find cards of a given grade? For reference, the set I'm thinking of putting together is 1965 Topps Embossed. What grade are the cards I'm going to find likely to be at? How much of a premium am I going to pay going up each grade from the last one? I can basically forget about finding mint versions, right? Also, I'm assuming this is something that my local card shop isn't going to be able to help me with very much. It seems that Ebay is probably going to be my best bet, anyone have any tips on buying cards from Ebay or is it pretty straightforward as long as the seller has a good rating? Should I just take their word on the grading of the card? I've heard people talking about having a card slabbed which I've taken to mean as independently graded. I don't think any of these cards would be like that since the priciest card I've seen in the set was like 80 bucks. I've never put together a vintage set like this before so forgive any stupid questions, but I was looking through some cards I had when I was a kid and I have the Willie Mays embossed so I started thinking about putting together the set. It's pretty small and might be fun to track down. e: Just realized I posted about my Mays embossed on the first page. Whatever, I love that set. \/\/\/ Thank you so much for the info, I guess Ebay it is. It seems to be tough set to judge through scans, luckily I'm not going to be putting much money on the line for these cards. DrGonzo90 fucked around with this message at 09:42 on Dec 20, 2011 |

Aside from the Mantle, Topps Embossed is a pretty cheap set. i wouldn't even worry about grades, just buy cards you think look nice. DrGonzo90 posted:What grade are the cards I'm going to find likely to be at? How much of a premium am I going to pay going up each grade from the last one? I can basically forget about finding mint versions, right? VCP average on PSA 6s (which is EX-MT) varies from a couple bucks for a common to around $40 for a Mantle. You won't have a problem finding a nice looking set on a budget, especially if you can find some lots to save on shipping. Use eBay, buy from people with decent feedback that provide scans of the card, look at pictures and decide whether you like the card and how much you're willing to pay for it. It's a niche set that isn't highly collected but is widely available, so you'll have plenty of options. Again, outside of maybe the Mantle I wouldn't worry at all about having your cards graded or buying raw vs. slabbed and I wouldn't be worried about reprints or fakes. Another similar niche set that's widely available from the time period and cheap is 1964 Topps Giants, in case anyone wants to do that one instead.

It broadly looks like a 70s style Willie signature and it's on a 72 Topps in pen, which are all good signs, but I've got some questions about the signature itself and Willie's signature has had so many different forms and looks that I don't really have a firm opinion one way or the other. What's the provenance?
