Yeah, that was the issue I was having in all three of the cars that I've got lined up. The two downhill righthanders require perfection, every time - which is pretty easy to do when it's just you... Ponder this though.
One of the cars I have tuned is the Celica. It weighs in someplace in the 21xx range, and runs 1:15's

Here's the issue I see.
The Taurus is a loving bull - and I have to brake early and tiptoe through those two downhill righthanders, but I make up for it on the uphill straight, where I'm pushing 105 by the time I get to the top for that other technical lefthander before the S/F.
The Celica is a ballet dancer - I can dive into those two corners and flick through them with relative ease, but after the turnaround, the Celica just has no oomph, and hits the top of the uphill doing only about 85-90 MPH.

So, either way, my concern is the very real possibility that someone could make an otherwise trivial mistake (or just drive their car the way it demands to be driven) and get punted into a race-ending incident by some minor contact.

(I like the cut of the December DLC's jib better)

Logue: I agree that it's a possibility. I'm on the flip side of that coin, m'self. For most races, I'm so very thankful that I'm invincible, because I'm such a completely lovely driver. But once a week, for an hour, I love the poo poo out of racing where a mistake (even someone else's) could have real consequences.
At the same time, that's also why it's a *season* - one bad race won't put you out of the running, and there's bonus points available for people who put some effort into making their car look awesome, so there's hope for lovely drivers, too. =)

For the most part, though, knowing that Sim damage is on makes everyone more careful, more likely to give you the room you need, etc. It's also why I've tried to pick tracks that are a little more forgiving, in most cases.

November has a few good cars, but December has a ton of awesome cars. If I didn't have Season Pass I would go for December. However, who knows what the January car pack will be... but if you wait for that you still wouldn't know what the February car pack would be... If you want to buy a pack right now, December would be my vote.

I love this car. I chose it for the '50s Roadster challenge on a whim and was grinning the entire time. First gear just keeps going forever. The Suzuki is probably the most disappointing in my mind. That challenge is certainly going to be a one-and-done for me, I'm not doing it again unless I figure out what I'm doing wrong with that thing. I can handle insane vehicles that oversteer when you do it wrong, understeer just sucks.

edit: djfooboo, I beat your S5 flying lap around Hockenheim from a standing start :smug:. I can't find a map that has the same layout as used in that particular challenge, but I think it was the turn before the Mobil 1 Curve that got you. That one threw me off a few times before I got it right too.

e2: Speaking of rival challenges, is there actually a reason why people seem to be intentionally failing miserably at these? When starting one that I haven't run before, inevitably the first "rival" has a 30+ minute dirty lap and often they veer off in to the wall within seconds of starting the race. Are people competing for the worst spot on the leaderboards or something?

I definitely started off doing bad laps, like someone else said the best way to maximize your income from rivals is to win by fractions at a time and collecting a (eventually big) bounty each time. Unfortunately I've reached a point where I'm only competing against a handful of goons now, like Coldpie, Southpaw, Logue1 and Cubivore among others. Hopefully AUGR will increase rivals competition. Also gotta reask my question from earlier: What are the rivals events for this month?

Doesn't the bounty scale with where your rival is on the leaderboards? I get the idea, but the bonus at the lower levels is so low that in the half hour they wasted setting that long time they could have run 4-6 regular races and earned a ton more in the same time.

I sort of do the same while actually competing, if I'm going to beat my rival significantly and the bonus is good I'll sandbag the last few hundred feet to just barely win so I can do that a few more times, but the bonus at the level these people are at is hilariously small.

Are you responding to something I wrote? I never said anything about sim damage. That said, I am pro sim-everything.

Thanks for the comments guys, makes up for me getting stuck behind everyone on the inevitable first turn wreck, and considering I was at a 50 PI disadvantage, Ill take third I guess. I was catching those drat evo's at the end, just ran out of time.

Hey man, I was the one who got the rear-end make-over. It was a great race though, you and Boaz started to catch up at the end and started making me nervous. I have to say, I really like the manditory pit-stop, I like having to choose a pit strategy.

The race was pretty fun. Most everyone had really cool paint schemes, though I just kind of slapped some numbers and logos on near the end because I had no clue what real ones looked like. I ended up a good bit behind everyone else, somewhat due to bad driving, but also my car decided to hurl itself off the straight for some reason around lap 4 or 5 and then I had a catastrophic feline attack in real life near the end. I'd definitely be up for having another go at it next week though.

Cars facing in the wrong direction on turn 1: I believe Jabs car in green was hit as well but it weighs like 10000 pounds and just kept going



This is where my car decided to hurl itself into marker #2, I still can't figure out why it did that



We had a decent last place battle going for a while, I found out the RSX doesn't really do off-road

FB, I looked at the telemetry of your spin. Essentially, you almost completely unloaded ONLY the rear suspension coming over the crest near the S/F, and turned in to the left slightly. Recipe for disaster.

MY LIFE FOR YOU!
Yup, I was the EVO-X that decided to assfuck the car in front of me on the first corner. I was in the clear, putting on my brakes, worried about the car that was lagging out, and wouldn't you know it, suddenly the lag stops and there is a car right in front of me braking hard. (My brakes were good, but not good enough for sudden car spawning.) Anyway, I punted him, and was collected by a few cars and took engine damage.

I pitted, passed two people on their pit stops, and did well for most of the race... until I damaged my engine while trying to go faster and missing a shift, which I didn't notice thanks to the tire meter I had up at the time. Anyway, thanks to that, jabs caught me, and I pitted, and got 2nd to last.

Sadface.

Still, a fun race despite the fact that it was pretty much a time trial for me after the fuckup in the first turn.

So hey, for those of you who have the December DLC pack, what kind of Aero stuff can you do to the Fiero? The Raptor's lightbars and spare look loving killer, but does the Fiero get any goofy kits?

Besides the standard Forza aero, the only other bits the Fiero gets are stuff to make it look like a non-GT 88 Fiero. Spoiler delete, nose piece without the airdam (looks more like a Firebird).

Made the horrible mistake of wandering into the official forums and learned two things:

1. If you have the Fanatec wheel, setting your linearity to 50 is the golden number to achieve proper linearity in sim steering.

2. People are actually bitching about the December car pack, claiming, horrifyingly, that the Raptor is the only interesting car in the pack. Philistines.

This isn't true. The on-wheel linearity setting is screwy and more or less makes a massive deadzone. The curve Forza uses to gently caress up the sensitivity and the curve the wheel uses to change the linearity aren't the same/opposite.

drat. Here I thought I was sharing some useful info :( How could Turn 10 gently caress this up? They aren't the sort of developer who make blunders like this normally.

As with all front-engined cars, braking while turning can be disastrous because of the weight transition to the front axles under braking. Your rear end is going to slide the gently caress out, so you need to power out of it and accelerate (not what you'd be inclined to do, and you might just understeer to death anyway).
So I'm not surprised about that RSX spinning out... incidentally that's also what my colleague did to his very own real RSX in a corner once! :D
