Speaking of mythical, non-existant betas, there is one thing related to pokemon that I remember reading about way back when, that I don't remember being mentioned. In a nutshell, when the player completes the Nugget Bridge in Red/Green/Blue, he's given an option to join Team Rocket. In the final version, the player automatically says no, and fights the Team Rocket grunt. The original plan was that the player would be given an option to join Team Rocket, with an actual "Yes/No" prompt. If the player declined, the game would play out as it does in the final version, but if he accepted, some events would change. The actual progression would be the same, but who the player fights would change. One example was that as a member of Team Rocket, you would fight Silph Co Scientists instead of Team Rocket Grunts when you go to Silph Co. The actual pokemon that they carry would be the same, just that the sprite and pre/post-fight text would have changed. Other changes was that people would be fighting you to try to stop Team Rocket instead of randomly fighting a random 10 year old who happened to be wandering by, and Team Rocket members would challenge you just to see how good you were. The main reason why this plan was scrapped was they had problems getting the proper fights/text to trigger for the side you were on, and it was easy to "sequence break" the game with trading pokemon between cartridges, resulting in the game not setting the "Faction" flag. The game would default to you being on Team Rocket for some maps, while defaulting to you being against Team Rocket for others. Eventually they just cut out the Team Rocket Member content and removed the "Yes/No" dialogue box so you had to fight Team Rocket.

It was some sort of FPS with emphasis on weapon modding, collecting and timetraveling. It boasted with over 200 different weapons and fuckload of accessories from Napoleonic Wars to modern day. All I can remember that is was back in like 2008-2009, they had this heavy flash site of a old manor in thunderstorm that you could travel in and check info about the game. You were in some secret bureau or something to do with time travelling and being timecop or something. They had videos about the weapon hall of game, modding your guns and gameplay circa 1st Desert Storm of some bazaar firefight and it looked pretty impressive at its time. Then it just dissappared from the internet.

I liked it, it was a good balance of 'could just be part of the game' and 'wtf is going on' weirdness that made it genuinely creepy. Listening to the music you posted in the background as I read really helped the atmosphere too. Like you, I kept anticipating the AI to do something but it never happened. Great job!

Something to the tune of 250 levels in 15 time periods, rpg leveling, customizable squadmates and Blacklight: Tango Down style weapon customization. Why yes, I'm at Waterloo holding a belt fed BAR chambered for Napoleonic musket balls, incendiary ones at that. That's what happens when you let people design a game with "unlimited" funds before telling them that those funds are only unlimited in the sense that a flash casino game will always keep generating some ad revenue and that current stockpiles only keep a fifth of the required dev team employed for a year.

America isn't blasting everyone to hell and back? So unrealistic. Seriously tho, good read. It sounds plausible enough to be an easter egg, while being quite creepy, especially with the music. I didn't know DEFCON had such a cool OST.

Honestly, the only really odd part about it is the lack of any form of defence at all. I mean, it would only make sense to have SOME sort of defence, even if it was just anti-nuke defence. As it is, it sounds almost like someone made a mod/patch where they could relieve stress by nuking everything that isn't them, and you somehow ended up with it.

Hondo probably wants us to forget the (unfinished?) actual ending. There's a switch at the bottom of the third dark pool that's fairly difficult to hit. The last room is rather anti-climactic and it's probably not worth recording video for. Nebelwerfer posted:Nope, pretty it wasn't Darkest of Days because there ain't no Desert Storm Are you talking about Alliance: The Silent War? It was indeed being developed by some team that went into doing stuff for Second Life to pay the bills; it was intended to be like the Gran Turismo of shooting things, with you having loads of realistic guns ranging from 1916-2000s, and a conspiracy angle taking you through the different time periods. They apparently want to finish it nowadays, with the advent of alphafunding and online-distribution like Steam making it easier to push out a small title.

We just need someone to track Hondo down and buy him a forum account and then slap him until he coughs up all the secrets of the old maps.

Yeah, alot of the creepypasta video game stories have a "Me too!" vibe, where someone read a good one, and tried to imitate it. The Creepy Pasta wikia has some good VG ones. It's where I read the good pokemon and Link's Awakening ones first.
