Not over here in Europe) My theory is that most metalheads dislike them purely because they are big / popular and high school kids like them. But you never know these days. I personally like some of their slower material (eg. Walk With Me in Hell, Descending), especially drumming - the guy has a very distinct style and sound, at least in my opinion. But yes, they are the Pantera of this generation and yes, most of their material is very bland / generic.

I guess I just dislike them because they're popular though even though this is the first I've actually heard their music (to my knowledge anyway, it's really generic).

There is no argument that that song is not metal. The first band I thought that would be playing is Nickelback, so yea. I was just posting it to illustrate who Ancient VVisdom was. edit: It's catchy as gently caress, I was walking around work yesterday singing it. Too bad Ghost isn't playing anywhere near Atlanta or else I would have got a ticket. Unfortunately some of my friends are easily offended by the "Satanic" lyrics and I would have had to go alone. And they call themselves metal heads!

Today I am going to talk to you about a band from Australia. Innsmouth If you can't guess what the inspiration for this band is, I am shocked that you haven't been introduced to Lovecraft via your love of metal. These guys dig Lovecraft. They have a demo (The Departure of Shub Niggurath) and 7" (She-Goat) and they're both great. Musically, they can be described as atmospheric doomed-up death metal with the Australian flavour of Armoured Angel and Cauldron Black Ram. When they played a show here in Melbourne it was one of the best I'd ever been to, they nearly caved the floor in. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-vsEHy8jio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvjqxrZM64A And now to go across the Pacific and towards California, to where Witchaven are located. When I'm in the mood for some well played blackened thrash metal, this inevitably finds its way into my playlist. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ux5fQqA76gM Reminds me of watching Headbangers Ball a long time ago. I rewind the song just for the toms. Something about the drum sound on this album really works. The album is really good. fappenmeister fucked around with this message at 07:53 on Jan 24, 2012 |

Have any of you heard the latest Zemial and Agatus EPs? And thanks to the person mentioning Hail of Bullets to someone earlier, not sure how that one slipped through the cracks. New Pharaoh is dropping sometime soon, http://cruzdelsurmusic.bandcamp.com/album/bury-the-light is a streaming track off it. This label has some totally excellent bands in their roster if you've not heard of them before.

I've discovered Manilla Road and Cirith Ungol recently. It is a shame they didn't get more attention when they were pumping out classic albums. Any recommendations for other mid-80s non-thrash metal that was underrated?
