Every now and then he goes off swearing about game journalists or something else. Then later he posts the fucken cookies his kids made. But most of the time he is just so honestly passionate about delivering a fun Twisted Metal game that I can't help but ignore some of the rough edges.

We're so beyond the PAL/NTSC divide now that there is no reasonable reason to NOT offer the full US version of the game now.

I imagine the fact that those cutscenes were never localized or rated in those territories would make them not worth the bother. Jaffe would probably cite the reason he decided not to do 14 story ending videos for the current game - people will just look them up on Youtube anyway.

I honestly can't tell if I'm excited or not for Twisted Metal. It kinda looks like it does too many core things differently to capture what made the original games so awesome, but hopefully I'm wrong. Good on them for releasing a demo, though, so we can all know for sure.

Actually 9/11 happened and then a mental health charity in Britain caught wind of the game and complained to Sony and it all went to hell. The cutscenes were stripped out and it was released quietly without fanfare. I'd imagine getting the whole game re-rated and possibly having to piss around in Germany to get the cutscenes back in wasn't worth the hassle, especially at a late stage like this. At least Jaffe managed to get it in instead of Europe getting nothing this time though (Get Head On: Extra Twisted edition on PSN as a US import please thanks). Demo will also be on Europe PSN on Wednesday as well though Jaffe said he's not sure if they are region locking the servers for the demo. They are unlocked for the full game but the demo is mostly a "Stress Test" kind of deal and demo servers will be shut down on the 8th.

Thanks everyone for the input on Splatterhouse. I went ahead and picked it up and played the first two phases, and I'm digging the hell out of it. Part of that might be caused by the fact that I have a soft spot for the original 16-bit games (having your mom tell you that you are expressly forbidden from renting something will have that effect, I guess). I'm playing on the hardest available difficulty mode, which I'm hoping doesn't turn out to be a mistake. I'm definitely having a lot more fun with this than I did with, say, Castlevania: LoS, which is part of a franchise I have an even bigger soft spot for. The combat's crappier than Castlevania, but it's also not as overwrought and serious and annoying. The voice acting is definitely doing a lot to brighten my view of the game, too. Also it was $10.

I don't think it will be just for PS+ members. The blog post said nothing about it being a PS+ exclusive. Along with that game, the PS1 version of Final Fantasy V will be free, Far Cry 2 is going to be free for one week starting on Valentine's Day, and all of the PSN Sega Genesis/Megadrive games will be free again on the week after. These Bluray games are getting download versions next month: Grand Theft Auto IV, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Tom Clancy’S H.A.W.X 2, and Battlefield: Bad Company 2. The House of the Dead 3, with Move support, is also confirmed for a PSN release next month PS+ in Europe is getting similar freebies, along with a 50% discount on the download of Rayman Origins.

Yeah Dragon's Dogma looks like an almost ideal game for me. Just the amount of visual customization you can do on your main character is amazing, looks beyond any game yet. Climbing around on giant enemies and keeping them busy while your teammates fill them with arrows looks awesome. ...and yet, on 2ch there are all these people who assume it will suck. I don't understand why. edit: Well there is one thing: the idea that the game was clearly made to access the Western audience, and that sometimes means they don't know what the hell they're doing (see Quantum Theory, etc). Posted earlier in the games recommendation thread, and I just realised that it fits here as well. I'm looking for a 2-player 2D platformer on PS3 to play together with my mother. For reference she loves Donkey Kong and Kirby on the Wii, and I heard her say good things about Rayman as well. I have no familiarity with platformers on the PS3 so any suggestion is welcome, old or new doesn't matter. The only recommendation I got from the thread was Little Big Planet, I played the demo for the original and it was neat. Assuming stock maps only (connecting my PS3 to the net is a pain), is LBP 1 or 2 to prefer?

Dragon's Dogma is kind of like a combo PSO/Shadow of the Colossus/Dark Souls/Generic Action game. I find that mix of genres to be awesome and quite inviting if the customization holds up. I feel like it could be really great or fall flat like White Knight Chronicles.

MelvinTheJerk posted:Three PS3 games I want in the next three months: Cross posting this from the games thread, but short answer is I was wrong. Maybe. Okay, so this is a VERY early review, but it's just kind of my initial impressions. For everything right the game does, it does at least one thing to gently caress it up. As an example, the whole being immortal thing is pretty cool. No health bars is an interesting concept. Except that a lot of the game is an escort mission and you need to revive Arcadia constantly. Which actually isn't that bad. The real problem comes from the fact that literally every enemy in game can dismember you with a single attack, which takes you out of the action constantly since you need to dive onto your body parts to get them back. But since the enemies never stop attacking you'll get a body part back only to instantly lose it again. The biggest offense though is that the game needs to have a game over screen somehow, so it introduces these monsters who exist solely for the purpose of eating your head. Again, this takes you out of the action pretty badly because you have to sit through a quick screen and hit a marker which pops up suddenly, something like a rhythm game. you get one try and if you gently caress up (and you WILL gently caress up) you go back to the check point to fight the monsters again. Combat revolves around two classics: Dual guns and a big gently caress off sword. Again, these are battle tested choices, they're almost impossible to gently caress up. People like guns and swords. See: Dante, Deadpool, the other 1,500 gun and sword characters. The problem is that you run out of bullets constantly, so you need to resort to using the sword. No problem there, except instead of just pressing a button to swing the sword, you need to hold like L1 and then waggle the R stick, and it just doesn't work that well to begin with. to make matters worse, you need both arms and at least one leg to swing the sword, and if you were reading the part about losing limbs all the drat time, you get the picture. Lastly, a cool part of the combat is the destruction of the property to around you. There must be about 500 oxygen tanks in the first area alone, which is great because they explode. The problem is that what you can destroy is highly inconsistent. Example: I can swing my sword and bust up a whole bunch of masonry, just bringing down entire structures on my head and my foes heads. Yet, I can't knock over a chain link fence. There's literally no way to learn if you can destroy something until you try. The game seems so close to being really fun that I want to keep playing it to see if it gets better. The characters, story, dialogue, etc,; are absurdly hammy. And I just spent $65 on this game, so I'd really like to get past the first area before coming down too hard on it. Bottom line, if the combat issues get better, i.e. I can use my XP to buy abilities that don't make me explode every two seconds, I think the game will be a lot better. If not, the game will likely be unplayable. If you put a gun to my head right now though I'd tell you to skip it. We'll see.

Timed exclusivity on that Resident Evil demo is the stupidest thing. At least last-gen you had genuine third-party exclusives that would make you want to buy the console. It made sense, and you can see why Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo would moneyhat people into making these deals - you'd think "Oh, I'd love to play the Metal Gear Solid series, I'll buy a Playstation!" or "Bioware RPGs? Awesome, I'll get an Xbox!" Now you just get small petty poo poo like demos or DLC coming out slightly earlier on one console than another, or one version of the game having an insignificant extra mission that the other doesn't have. It's not going to persuade anyone to buy any hardware or anything, it just punishes half your fanbase and makes them feel a bit cheated.

It appears Capcom is putting more resources into DD than they have any single game before. It's the most ambitious thing they have done since...maybe ever. If they CAN put it off it can be a symbol of Japan's game biz getting back on the ball. If they can't then Japan just continues its decline into irrelevance.

I told you assholes that Twisted Metal would be amazing <> Regarding weapon damage, you need to consider that health does not regenerate in this game and pickups to recover it are rare. If weapons did too much damage it would really upset the flow of the game. As it is right now, combat in the game is decided on skill rather than who fired the first shot, and that's a good thing.
