So the new rivals events are up, and I'm looking at the drift challenge. How the hell do you only get 7 points on one lap? For that matter, how the hell does it end up being a dirty lap? I didn't even know that was possible.

GentlemanofLeisure posted:Yeah, the Goonspec stuff that Jabs has been running has just been posted in this thread. If you post it, people will see it. Cool, thanks. I sent him a PM on the autocross forum we're on, so hopefully so. Tentative schedule is: 2xBTCC (Krautastic's formula) 1xSpecPinto 2xVintage sports cars (free on TheCowboyJoe's storefront. These were optimized for equal laptimes in testing.. all within .5 sec on Iberian) 1xGoonMons (target lap time format, project cars) 2xTransAm (Krautastic's formula, on his storefront for free, same deal as vintage) 1x??? (could be USTCC, could be modern GT, could be...?) 1xSpecPinto, finale (because the post-finale race was awesome. Kraut made a tune that's a blast to drive) Vintage are a collection of almost all small displacement sports cars made between 1965 and 1982. The two exceptions are the '79 Camaro and Mustang II, because they're wholly unloved and I thought they would make for fun racing against tiny GTA's and Escorts and such. PI ranges from around 480 for the lowest (Elan) to ~535 for the highest (R5 T2). Krautastic and I were consistently finishing w/in half a second of each other after three laps no matter the pairing of cars. Trans Am is similar to American Iron from season 1, but there are fewer available cars and again, extensive testing was done to equalize laptimes and speed. What makes this series fun is that all cars run with low pressure drag slicks which, IMO, do an excellent job at simulating '70s era biased-ply race tires. As for ???, Who knows? I'll defer to Jabs here. I avoided USTCC because the VW R32 was 1-2seconds per lap faster than any other car in this format. Does anyone have suggestions for good tutorials for creating vinyl groups – logos and all that? I've looked the Forza website and done a some googling – just wondering if folks have their favs. Humorously I think many of my idea will be really tough and I have no talent. BUT if you don't try...

So if you ever need anything (especially Japanese logos, some of which I'll never use) let me know and I can hook a brother up. In general though: just play with the basic shapes and get a feel for what they can do and be used for. Also, Tanz, please report to the GTCC board to pick your car so that I can post them here for everyone else to pick through.

I've created a few things - to be honest this seems sooo awkward using a control, but what are you going to do. Currently I'm trying to create bits of the periodic table – which is a bit more daunting then I'd originally thought. I'd love to try to create a Peter Stokkebye (Tobacco) logo

I've looked the Forza website and done a some googling – just wondering if folks have their favs. Try and break a logo down into its component shapes: look at what tools you have available and how you can make them fit into what you want to be creating. I'd say at least 90% of the shapes in any logo or whatever I make are either squares or circles, you can do a lot with the basic shapes and the scale/skew/rotate tools. Start big and get the major features down first before going in to the details. Don't be afraid to experiment. Other than that I can say it helps if you have a good eye for spacial relationships as it makes getting correct proportions and spacing a lot easier. I think I may have written up a little more on vinyl creating in either this or the Forza 3 thread so you could look back through my posts if you want (I'm too lazy to do this myself sorry). Siig is really good at painting and I think he may have written a little guide as well maybe.

I've got some personal stuff coming up over the next 116 days, and I don't know what my availability actually looks like at this point, so Joe is going to take over primary GoonMarshall duties for this season. The only change I'd suggest to the schedule is that I initially set up for 3 month increments, so there ought be a third race to each of the three categories to bring the Season up to 12 weeks. Depending on what my budget looks like at the end of Season 3, there may or may not be Secret Schwag, as there was for Season 2. Boaz scored a 1600 point card, Joe and Dan both got SA account gift cert's, and are ineligible for the balance of the calendar year. We shall see what the cards hold in 12 weeks! I've tried to give Joe Editor permissions for the GoonSpec pages on my website - I'm waiting to hear back whether they're working - and I'm pretty sure he's got edit permissions on the GoonSpec Season Results doc...

It's like that episode of the Simpsons where Marge goes to art class and the guy is like "a cone, then a circle, and even a rhombus". You have to break it down, by basically ignoring perspective, into 2D shapes. A cylinder that recedes is probably best done as a couple of triangles and a square, then rotated into position, then by using the trapezoid you're given, which will lock you into a given shape no matter how you scale it. Not that I'm good at this, but things I'd look out for: 1. Sizing after rotating is broken, so scale the thing before spinning it as much as possible. 2. A lot of times with text, you can get away with scaling a built-in font's letter to "close enough" of what you wanted, and then copy->paste->change vinyl shape->reposition the new letters. Anyway, this is my latest, for the Korean GTCC tomorrow: North Korea best korea. EDIT: Bentron you aren't really banned, I just put that in because it seemed hilarious. Don't hate me. <3 (USER WAS PUT ON PROBATION FOR THIS POST)

Thanks Jabs! Everyone else- you're in for it now!! muahahaha I've posted a tentative schedule up on his site for now. I guess I'll add a third race to each category now, so it'll look a bit different. For now, the Trans-Am cars are not available, as Krautastic is finalizing the roster. Same with SpecPinto. That was so much darn fun.

Interview with Dan Greenawalt; http://www.gametrailers.com/video/porsche-is-forza-motorsport/727669 He talks about the new level cap, and the level cap increase doesn't give any rewards. Now does he mean no cars, or also no money? I can't imagine no additional credits, but Turn-10 does have an in-game economy to worry about.

They probably figured that they would underestimate players again and the entire situation would repeat itself, giving them pressure to raise the level cap a second time. The devs probably just said "gently caress it, levels are already 3 digits, max that sumbitch out!"
