Use NValt synced with dropbox or simplenote with an easy keyboard shortcut, it's like the best thing ever.

There is a VoodooPad presence on the App Store for iOS. I think they have a "viewer" type app, and then a "premium" one that lets you edit, etc.

I did send them the same feedback. I got back a fairly lame response of "well, it's all HTML based so it's kinda hard, ya know? But we're always working on it..." (based on their own forums all these bugs have gone unfixed for half a year already). But I can still hope. Stickies.... One of my clients has somewhere around 50 stickies on her desktop and it's always a huge mess. I shudder to imagine using those myself. Whatever floats your boat though.

Could someone who is running the Mountain Lion beta download and run the OpenGL Extension Viewer from the appstore for me then copy paste the stuff under the report tab on paste bin? Basically I'm needing some OpenGL extensions that are not available in Lion (praise to Apple for still shipping OpenGL 2.1 in 2011) and I'm wondering if I should fork out $100 for a dev center membership to get beta access...

Something running on my MacBook Air is preventing it from going to sleep. My energy saver preferences are set to display turning off after one minute and the computer fully going to sleep after 5 minutes. Is there any way to find out what app is causing this? I'd really just like the display to turn off at the very least.

Knowing that some kind of update to the iOS versions of iWork was inevitable today, I was really hoping they'd announce updates to the Mac suite as well. No luck, obviously. At the very least they should really be embarrassed about selling something called "Pages '09" in 2012 (one of the many reasons it is stupid to use years in software titles). Assuming I give in and buy the '09 versions from the App Store now, what are people's opinions on the likelihood that Apple will charge for the (drat well better be) inevitable '12 update? Normally updates to MAS apps are free, but I'm afraid of Apple saying "but this is the biggest update these apps have gotten in years!" (no poo poo) and posting them as new/separate apps rather than upgrades. I suppose there's probably zero precedent for that and my fears are unfounded, but I thought I'd check here anyway.

There's also a paid upgrade functionality I don't think they've rolled that out (or no one has used it), although that might just be for the non app store to app store "upgrades" that's possible now.

Almost every time I remote into my Mac Mini Server (mid 2010), I find lots of black poo poo covering most of the screen. As I open windows and drag stuff around, the black disappears to reveal the screen. e.g. It's not a massive problem, because it's quick and easy to get rid of, but it's kind of annoying. It did it when it had Snow Leopard Server installed, and it still does it since I upgraded to Lion Server. It runs headless some of the time, but this doesn't seem to have any effect on whether the black appears or not, and the blackness only show on the remote connection and not on the physical display. I've tried third party VNC clients, other than ARD, and the problem persists. Does anyone know what's going on, and how to fix it?

Looks similar to the login screen bug. "I think I have just found a solution, the display sleep and computer sleep options in Energy saver must be greater than the time of logout after inactivity in Security & Privacy. For example my logout time is 8 minutes, computer and display sleep is 10 minutes. It seems to work for me, let me know how it works for you." http://www.mactalk.com.au/11/105092-lion-login-screen-wants-me-paint-back-together.html edit: drat maybe not, since you said it doesn't happen on the physical display. There are options you can play with that make VNC faster - ignoring the background, only sending updates to windows you're moving/using, etc Of course you'll have to figure out how to set the various options through the config files on the Mac.

Anyone here experiencing the fan running more often since updating to 10.7.3? Like, I'll have to restart finder (even rebooted a few times) now which I've never had to do before. Quick google search shows a few others with the same issue but just want to ask here as well.

Nah the printer actually has drivers that download when you plug it into a network connected Mac, right from Apple. The problem is that this particular Mac isn't on the network.

I've had a lot of questions lately! Anyone have an opinion on Fingerprint vs Printopia? (I've tried AirPrint activator and it's too flaky. I'm more than happy to pay a few bucks for something better.)
|
# ? Mar 9, 2012 08:22 |

I have Printopia and it works, and from what I've read Fingerprint also works so...pick whichever? One nice thing about Printopia I noticed (which may or may not apply to Fingerprint) is that they show up as regular printers for other computers as well so that's kind of useful for some stuff. Like I set up a "Save to Web Receipts" printer and use that when on other machines on the LAN occasionally, vs doing something like mounting a network share and saving a PDF to there. Set up might be prettier with Printopia (pref pane), didn't try Fingerprint but looked like it used a separate app. They both have trials to just try both I guess. One trick I noticed with Printopia at least, it has some default emoji it uses for whatever types of printers, but if you don't like those you can just do the manual name and use the emoji character input to put in whatever you want. Like a "💩 Printer" if you uh, have a printer in the bathroom (or just have a really lovely printer).

Cheers though, I'll be able to control it more from now on, dunno why I didn't think of activity monitor

From the who the eff cares department: Intuit finally released Quicken 2007 for Lion the other day. Wow, I'm betting everyone is just going to drop Mint or whatever to go back to a 5 year old accounting program. Edit: er, never mind, it appears that people WANTED the old version of Quicken updated for Lion because transaction entry is quicker/easier, Quicken 2007 had better / more flexible report generation, and overall is free of the new feature dickery later versions were stuffed full of, including the current Quicken Essentials for Mac. Is there an equivalent Safari extension for QuickDrag? Additionally, a non-SIMBL, simple extension that allows middle-clicking to close a tab would be nice too. I'm using Glims at the moment, but it adds a lot of stuff I don't really care about or use.

I don't think non-SIMBL Safari extensions can really mess with the browser's behavior like that. I'm pretty sure they can only modify page content.
