Some of the changes that they made that were good in my opinion:

1) The narrative structure isn't as disjointed and janky. No more Mission > Out of the Animus > Mission > Out of the Animus. The game feels more free roaming and almost never* removes you from the role of Ezio the entire time.

2) Better structures to navigate around the cities. The environments are less bland.

3) Improved combat, but still pretty shallow. Combat is pretty much an oversimplified joke, and the enemy AI isn't much better.

4) More things to do in the cities themselves. The feature set of AC1 is pretty bland.

I was like you and vehemently hated AC1, then I gave AC2 a try and found I could really like what they had going for them.

Ugh, don't remind me. I had the gall to think I could drink some soda during a cutscene, and missed it on my first playthrough. I was seriously thinking of just doing the mission over again, but then the game auto-saved and I didn't get to hug him until my second playthrough.:(

Ugh I was really excited about playing through the Silent Hill HD collection and getting to experience some of my favorite freaky games with trophy support and all that jazz, but the trophy list got leaked and holy poo poo. You have to play through SH2 7 or 8 times, and one of the trophies is getting the green hyper spray, which is seriously one of the most challenging things I've ever tried (and failed) to accomplish in a video game. It might literally be one of the hardest trophies of all time.

Why do all these HD collections keep requiring me to play through each game a dozen times? Sometimes I hate being a completionist.

I'm working my way through the Metal Gear HD collection, so I feel your pain. On the plus side, I just look at it as a way to squeeze more hours out of a game. I just got my first Platinum (Saints Row 3) and now I'm gunning for more.

Also, a couple of those SH2 playthroughs would only be 2 hours or so, so that makes it a little more palatable.

Just do what I do... keep the game for years and years and get one trophy ending and then put it down for a long time and then get the next trophy ending after a few months.

It's always weird because MGS3's trophies were a lot better about that. The Kerotoans were annoying but nothing made you play through the game a dozen times or anything. Then MGS2 is like 5 playthroughs of both scenarios, more if you gently caress up and miss a single dogtag.

Likewise, SH3 has much better trophies. For SH2 I'm not even that concerned about all the playthroughs because I still remember most of the game and it isn't too long. I am mostly worried about that Green Hyper Spray because I've never encountered something that difficult in a game before and I have a feeling I won't be able to pull it off. Doesn't help that there is no way of knowing if you failed one of the dozen requirements until you literally finish the game, either.

You know you can alter the ending 4 different ways in literally 5 minutes of different gameplay choices. Born from a wish is an entirely different play through. As someone who did 5 runs on the original sh2, then was asked to do 7 on the rerelease greatest hits version that has the dog ending and born from a wish, it isn't going to be too hard. Green spray, well that is the one thing I never got in SH2 and might have to use a guide to get this time.

Yeah, still a pain in the rear end to go through and do every ending, though.

And Green Spray is miserable. I know exactly how to do it, the problem is that it's borderline physically impossible and you can gently caress it up a dozen different ways without even knowing it. Having to know exactly how much damage you have taken, enemies you have killed, and time you have spent in the game and that horrible boat part without having any way short of using a stopwatch and a piece of paper to figure out if you made the requirements is an enormous pain in the dick. Not to mention you have to get every single other ending first, do all the above on Hard, and save only twice, which means if you gently caress up you can't even just load a save and try again, you literally have to play through half of the game or more all over again. All the guides for it are pretty much "You better have every single hallway in this game burned into your memory. Yeah, good luck."

I discovered something in Journey that I am oddly proud of figuring out on my own:

You can warp to any of the "levels" from the circular area near the beginning. Just go up to one of the ruins circling the valley/pit area, sing, and you'll be transported to the beginning of the section displayed on the wall. It's an easy way to get the companion trophy if you're having trouble with that, just go to the last bit, wait for someone, and finish.

I didn't appreciate it as much as some of you seemingly did, like this guy:

(really?) - but it was pretty great. The part where you slide down sand through the ruined city while the sunset makes everything look like its on fire is one of the prettiest things I've ever seen in a game. I also loved the multiplayer implementation, it really fosters a sense of camaraderie with a faceless, voiceless stranger. I've played it through a few times, and whoever I meet up with almost always waits for me catch up if I lag behind, has little singing "conversations" with me as we run along, and just somehow seems like a cool guy I would wanna hang out with sometime. Great orchestral music too.

[edit] actually, let's discuss this. What exactly is your problem with this statement? I have certainly felt emotion (even strong ones) from books, games and movies. Of course! But a lot of them can come across as contrived to specifically create that emotion. As if they rely on their significance and poignancy being hamstrung to how much they can manipulate you to feel. It can come off as 'manufactured.'

Conversely, Journey lets your emotions and feelings go where they naturally would. Its genius is in how strong it can make those sensations by very simple cues. No communication. Sound. Loneliness and companionship. Inability to gently caress someone over/grief them. (and more I'd rather not even allude to because I feel the experience should be as fresh for people who haven't played it as it can be.)

I'm with you. I was tearing up at the end and I'm not even sure why. I know it's considered stupid to get teary over a video game but god damnit this thing was loving good and the emotional low of almost dying in the snow followed by the high of you flying through the mountains and then walking side by side with a companion (both of you glowing) into the light just hit all the right notes.

I'm not going to go so far as to say that nothing in any other form of media has ever evoked as strong of a reaction from me but this is probably the most stirred I've been by a video game. The last that came even close was Nier (drat that last ending was depressing).

I haven't played Bayonetta on 360, but once the PS3 patch went in, it was fine. Maybe the performance was lower, but that doesn't mean you don't play it if you don't have a 360. It plays perfectly fine if you don't have any other means by which to play it.

Admiral H. Curtiss

I think there are a bunch of people who can create trailing images. I know some who could do this as if they were just going out for a stroll.
Even post-patch, the framerate is noticeably lower and a lot of graphical effects look worse. Bayonetta was coded to specifically take advantage of the 360 hardware, and it shows.

I mean, I suppose the PS3 version is fine if you don't have the 360 version to compare it to, but if you have the choice, pick it up for the 360.

Well let me try to amend what I was initially trying to say then. I don't want to seem I am being overly hyperbolic.

"it's the most pure emotion that I've felt from media consumption that I can recall."

That is to say, base, pure, primal, uncontrived, simple. There's no crying child in a burning apartment or a wife about to be murdered in front of a husband's eyes. It doesn't rely on machinations to evoke emotion. It presents a simple situation, and somehow manages to tap into your own self for that really, really pure emotion. I really appreciated that about it.

To wit: there's a scene VERY early on in Mass Effect 3 that involves a child, an atrocity, and very sad music playing. That's also emotional. But I'd define that as 'groomed' very explicitly to evoke the exact response it wants out of you.
