How do I do a proper self portrait? I have some Yongnuo wireless flash triggers and it came with a cable to release the shutter. How would I focus though? I'm using a 550D if that helps.

I guess it's quite difficult to do a shallow depth of field self portrait?

Depends: if you're shooting digital you can just bracket the focus by moving closer and further away from the lens slightly. I did one wide open and up close at f/1.2 that way.

With film, I have a friend who focused on a yardstick, then moved it out of the way and stuck his face there.

The boy using my camera. 5 years old, learning disability because of his attention deficit issues, clumsy, but he can work electron gadgets like he was born to it. He shows his mom how to use her android phone. And, he can hold my 5dii w/grip and 24-105, use the viewfinder, and frame and shoot successfully. Weird.

Either you had a very large mirror outside or somebody else took this picture... hence, not a self-portrait! Ha!

I don't know who you are buddy, but you'd better PM the OP. HE said it was for pictures of yourself AND self portraits. He'll set you straight!

This is the thread for posting photos of yourself and showing off your self-portrait skills!

Thoughts for rules:
  • Post as many pictures as you want!
  • Don't make fun of the way people look. Be kind.

That's it for now.

It's not really a self-portrait. It's more like a picture of your camera.

More of my face would be there but I have a minority condition with viewfinders (and guns, for that matter) called cross eye dominance :science:

Basically most people look into a viewfinder with their right eye. I look into mine with my left (even though I'm right handed).
