My mumble connection is killed whenever I try to connect. http://puu.sh/l6Cw Any reason why this is happening?

Looking at the logs it appears you don't have the most recent version of Mumble. I believe they made a small (but required) update here not too long ago and that might be what is causing you to disconnect. If not I'll look into it more after work.

Has anyone tried the beta of the updated Lowengrin DCG for 4.11? Any issues encountered? I'd love to be able to use the new 4.11 planes in the campaign. http://www.jg1.org/tabid/116/g/posts/t/547/DCG-3-47-Open-Beta-Test.aspx

I've been using it to host since it came out. No issues yet.

Thanks for the confirm! Seems to be working well on my end too On another note: Is it possible to enable nametags for ground targets, the same way planes have them? My biggest issue with ground attack missions is actually spotting what I'm supposed to bomb. If it weren't for the tracers on their AA fire, I usually can't find them at all.

Unfortunately, no. I've looked. I have the same problem, so do a lot of others. The work around I use is to bind padlock ground to a joystick button. That way you can look in the general area of what you're looking for and mash the button until it hooks to something. It's a shame that most sim makers don't have a graceful way to deal with the fact that it's just plain harder to pick something out on a computer monitor than with your own eyes. Falcon 4's method of doing this seems to be the most reasonable; they just make everything on the ground look bigger. RoF does a pretty neat thing too, they have little airplane sprite icons that appear on screen when you're close enough to a plane that a real pilot with reasonable eyesight would be able to pick it out. Finished school. Reinstalling IL-2.

I just reinstalled the game and going to try out my other joystick (the one with spring force feedback had deadzone issues, going to use servo one this time) and hopefully I can get it some games with you all. I played the hell out of Aces High back in the day and could avoid dying 50% of the time but could never get kills since back then my joy stick oddly didn't have the ability to control yaw.

So I used to play the hell out of Il2 and loved it although I only played with a keyboard and mostly just dicked aroun. So I never really bothered trying to play online. An extended, involuntary time with linux saw an end to that. However that time has ended and have started enjoying Il2 again. I still suck but I managed to pick up an X52 pro at a closing sale really cheap and it has already helped a lot and if you guys still actually play I'd definitely be interested in trying to shoot down goons (or more likely get shot down constnatly). Speaking of which, does anyone have any recomendations on good profiles? Specifically I don't have trackIR or anything, but my thumb mouse seems pretty usable for it so far (might try a hat too). Also for the steam group: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197978065548

Okay, time for me to dust off the X52. I used to play co-op Pacific Fighters with a friend, and it was awesome. While I'm patching this poo poo up, can I get an invite to the group? http://steamcommunity.com/id/joshleedotcom

I keep crashing in the first mission I'm in my I-16 and if I nudge it too much I flip outside down, stall and crash hilariously. I don't know if it's a problem with my settings, or my joystick or something else, it seems like my plane is way too sensitive. On both the runway and in the air it keeps turning to the left by about 5 degrees per second.

Get online some time when we're playing (which sadly isn't much these days) and we'll show you the ropes. In general, the 'plane pulling to the left/right' thing is due to a few factors and is actually natural. The I-16 has no trim so the plane will only be straight and level at a certain altitude and speed. Outside of these parameters you'll have to keep a constant control input. Compensate for the turn with rudder. When you're in the air flying at the altitude you want you basically have to fiddle with your power and pitch until your plane is flying straight and level.

It sadly isn't much these days for the following reasons: 1) The people who "run" the goon IL-2 community haven't been on in months. 2) Because of 1, there isn't any real announcements. 3) People suggest what to do through our awkward mumble chat when to play only 20 minutes before start and by doing so are interrupting military and politics sperging in channel. I hate to say it EvilJoven, but you might have to step up yet again to get us to play a game made by Russians 11 years ago and maintained by people who I would have sworn were fascists until the most recent patch.

Plus when this new thread was made we all got real serious about IL-2 and played it like non-stop for a couple of weeks with all the new people and we are now suffering from IL-2 Fatigue which is a real medical condition.

Alright so we managed to get a game going, it started off with just me and Robot, with me trying to take off into the air flailing, flipping over and then crashing into the ground. Then LP got on and we changed maps as apparently the wind was causing some of my issues and making it unnecessarily harder to fly. I finally took off and stayed airborn and randomly picked a direction to cruise and figure out my controls before noticing we were flying AWAY from the action and not towards it. Correcting course Railth got on and then LP and Robot had a short dogfight before LP got brewed up by AA flak and had to leave, and then we had a casual dogfight with me and Robot vs Railth in his bf109 while me and Robot were in A6M3 Zero's. Probably not the most newb friendly but I like it and it has name recognition. So Railth pointed out to us that since the Zero is a good turn fighter but the 109 keeps its speed better and is faster his strategy is to go in for a pass at us, run off, get some distance, turn around for another pass etc. He took out Robot who was forced to crash for getting overconfident while the server had to be taken down before the flak or railth could take me down. Fun game Hopefully we can get more people.

Alright, I'll see about stepping it up but it's going to be hard. I'm starting to suffer from sim fatigue in general and I just did something stupid and decided to give EVE another go... EDIT: I just realised there's something seriously loving wrong with me. When I got burned out on BF3 I turned to ARMA. When I got burned out on IL-2 I turned to DCS-A10. Now that I'm getting burned out on what I play in general I'm turning to a spaceship MMO with a learning curve like a brick wall. Why do I hate myself so much? So yeah it turns out that after not flying in over month I've gotten pretty bad at this! If I host it'll usually be between 2-5pm EST (7-10pm UTC+1) any day but Monday and maybe Wednesday, so Euros and people without social lives are the target demographic here. e/ Might pick up working on my west pacific bomber intercept again with more heavy bombers, because it turns out it's entirely possible [and really loving fun] for a single IJA interceptor to blow through a flight of B-17s, which means it's totally fair for a six-player session to face a full squadron of 24. I plan on hosting again. I dug out all my stuff and hooked it back up. My track ir isn't working for some reason though and I haven't wanted play without it. I'm working on replacing it. I'm half tempted to just drive down to Natural Point (they're like 40 minutes from here) and beg them to fix it for me. Anyway, I'll hopefully be back on and hosting soon. I'll go back to mouse looking if I have to... Edit: Right after posting this I decided to plug in my track ir one more time just to see. It fired right up. Weird. Is there a repository or site where you guys get your IL-2 missions from for multiplayer? I had a hankering to visit London with a He111 or Tokyo with a B25 the other day but... I can't be bothered to make the missions myself. And I guess I should add it would be way more fun to do this with actual goons... Shooting guys in furballs are fun enough but it gets repetitive. Mine just works right out of the box. Any idea of any errors? Like in the Application event log? A quick thing to try is to attempt to check the integrity of the game in the settings for that game.

I can't be bothered to make the missions myself. You can get missions and stuff other people have made from Mission4Today (may require registration, can't recall). Note that anything which uses a non-standard map won't be playable multiplayer unless you get everyone to download it, which won't happen as it represents yet another barrier to entry that makes it harder to get a lot of people in a pickup game, the main reason for our general "no mods" rule. Generally we either make multiplayer missions ourselves or [much more often] use Lowengrin's Dynamic Campaign Generator. Neither Tokyo nor London appear on any stock maps, so you'd have to find custom maps for them on M4T (if they even exist), which means goon multiplayer will basically never happen. [opinions]Not to mention that I personally wouldn't ever want to run a city bombing mission.[/opinions]

Huh. Well that makes sense. As for cities I guess I was really looking for something different then just dog fighting and picking on mostly helpless ships. At least towns/cities could have massive flak batteries arrayed to people. For some reason occasionally I have irrational urges to fly long boring bomber missions.

I think we all get that, the cure is just to try flying one and then you quickly remember that actualy you dont want to.

I remember when we'd get like 20-30 people in Mumble flying bombers was fun because the fighter jocks got a reason to care about what they were escorting, and I got to up Mumble with my knowledge of how to use the gyro bombsight.

I guess I should put effort into actually learning the bomber controls at some point rather then just relying on the good graces of goons to tell me what to do.
