So do I have to do anything special with that rivals challenge thing, or just beat the time, because I blew it out of the water by 10 seconds. That new Maserati is a beast.

An Elan with a monster engine hanging out the back would look hilarious. Just look at it: drat near the size of the entire Elan.

It'd be like that picture of a VW Beetle alongside an A10s GAU-8B Avenger cannon. Also, I just received my Fanatec CSR shifters. Only used the H pattern one so far, and good god it's fun and very immersive. I'm going as fast as, if not faster than when I was using my paddle shifters. Only downside is the crappy chopsticks mounting method, but that won't be a problem soon when my race seat is finished.

Anyone who's had to deal with trademarks and other IP licensing can see how impossible supporting fully open swaps without getting sued would be. It's still insane though that I can't put a LS9 in a Firebird or a 2JZ-GTE in a SC300 even though the same basic car made by the same company under a different brand offers it. Hell, I'd be happy with a return to even FM3's level of upgrades. I had a TDI-swapped R8 that I loved and I'm pretty sure I had a 20B Miata which would have made an excellent drift car.

My dream for a racing game is a sort of vinyl editor for entire cars. That is you can bring in body panels or chassis parts and bolt them together, install an engine, and the game does a series of simulation tests to calculate performance values so you can go race it. I'd think part manufacturers would go nuts for something like this. Could probably get a few auto makers to sign off on putting their cars in as well.. though I doubt exotics would be too keen on it.

Just curious how many of you have beat Montoya's time? I can consistently run in the 1:33's but 1:31 seems a far way off for me.

I put in probably about 5 hours over 4 days and got to within half a second just climbing up rivals. I finally beat it when I leapfrogged a rival and chose one under his time. It was a challenge though.

Ok so I'm confused. I'm trying to do some of these Rival Track Day events and every single time I start a new lap it immediately says it's dirty. What gives?

Maker Of Shoes posted:Ok so I'm confused. I'm trying to do some of these Rival Track Day events and every single time I start a new lap it immediately says it's dirty. What gives? You need to be clean in the final section of the previous lap to start a new clean lap. If you play with rewind, you can rewind your mistake, correct it, then go on to start a new clean lap. Similarly, if you gently caress up in turn one of a new clean lap, you can rewind to before you crossed the line and restart the clean lap.

And some "final sections" are stupidly long, so you practically need two clean laps in a row.

Watch for the little "checkpoint" popups that appear in the upper center of the screen. Those tell you when you've completed a section. Anything dirty after the last one will ruin your next lap. There are a few that are long enough that if you don't realize it immediately it's easy to end up unable to rewind to a clean start. Warning though about rewinding a screwup on the start of a new lap, if your previous lap was clean it won't be anymore. Many times I've set a new personal best but not beaten my opponent, screwed up the first corner, rewound, and then only after I had started from the rewind did I realize I had just ruined my new time.

Who gives a poo poo if the exotics are onboard though, really. There's plenty of awesome powerplants out there available to us, and I'm sure that with enough tubeframe fuckery and skinning, we could so very easily create a RB38DETT Porsche.

Guess who just set the fastest goon time in the VIP event. You guys should give the 370z a try, it doesn't go as fast the the Skylines do in a straight line, but it's much better in the corners. Now I will wait one hour for my time to get smoked by someone driving a Micra.

What's the policy or whatever on holding races? I am going to have some free time soon and was thinking about putting together a one-off race spec. I don't mean to interfere with the Wednesday races or anything, but I noticed Goonspec and so on have like websites and so on. I was thinking some sort of David vs Goliath A600 race with a max weight tuner class and a minimum weight muscle class. This would probably be a GISH thing because that's where I am. I am still working on the rules, etc, and will most certainly be last, but figured I would check to see if there is some CENTRAL GOON AUTHORITY or something.
