A$AP Rocky continues to do mediocre stuff over really good production, this time with Hit-Boy.

Yeah this was the verse where I forgot exactly why Rocky was notable in any way, he already got outshined by the producer on "Peso" and this just does it again.

I dig it, but yeah its the production. At a few points i like his flow, but its more the flow than the lyrics.

What do you mean? I can't remember off the top of my head but I'm pretty sure there was a period when rappers who signed to Bad Boy tended to disappear, or break away from the label and do the same.
Hasn't Red Cafe been in limbo for about 3 years with the label? He finally has a release date for his debut but that seems to be doomed anyway.

I picked up Future's Pluto because Noz has been raving about it. I wasn't really sure what to expect because I'd only heard him on like Gucci Mane and Trouble features and, you know, its all auto-tuned pseudo rap. Turns out the album is really popping and addicting. Its like a fun version of 808s and Heartbreaks.
edit: There' also a Big Rube intro which is always good to hear.

Really looking forward to Skelethon, not at all getting tired of the single released so far. I can understand comparisons to Bazooka Tooth, but listening to them together there's really evident advancement in his his flow, some interesting melodic nature that really helps the delivery. He's got this kind of narrow sweet spot in his writing, in my opinion, that makes it easy to basically toss out a lot of his material as being more inscrutable than accessible for no good reason, but when he's on and his metaphors come across well over a good beat, he still sounds fresh to me. I am going to miss Blockhead I think, but if the single is representative of what he's up to now, production has gotten way better in the, what, 9 years since Bazooka Tooth.

Definitely the most interesting thing he's done in a long time, I liked but didn't love his contribution to thefreehoudini's album in 2009 (that did introduce me to Slug, though kind of a bad time to try to get into his work I guess). With the kind of opaque lyricism Aesop Rock fucks with, phoning it in doesn't work at all, regardless of the production. But imo great single, hoping the rest of the record's as good.

In other news, Lil Ugly Mane removed all his albums off bandcamp on Friday the 13th, but I see that he un-hid "Mista Thug Isolation", so that's back up for everyone.

tracks i've been into lately:

Ethelwulf - Kingpin Reclaim
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y87OWnTtXBI
*Spaceghostpurrp / Raider Klan affiliate from Memphis, heavy Bone Thugs influence (which is a new flow / gimmick he did for his new mixtape; check his old videos on youtube and you'll see he used to sound generic)
Beat on this track is a sample from a real old Kingpin Skinny Pimp & Three 6 Mafia track, that Soulja Boy decided to loop the beat and rap over last year apparently.

Apollo Brown and OC - Prove Me Wrong
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2piUF5Lo58
Boom bap poo poo.

I Self Devine and Ak-Rite - Pretty Sickness
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XbXXnkkrNMI
dope beat, sample. raps about drug addicts and sex addicts.

Doughbeezy - Stayin In My Own Lane
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pux8NkjK-pg
dope beat, decent Houston rapper.

THADWICK TRISTEN TREVOR lll & SWAN COLTRANE - "Brain Champagne"
http://vimeo.com/24538614
Dope beat, reminds me of some Chuck Inglish; I checked their album out and this is the only memorable track from what I remember.

Deniro Farrar - NWO ft. Shady Blaze (prod. nem270)
almost reminds me of the "Thank You Based God" beat. similar idea with the vocal sample and fast hi hats.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QtM4zTHbcw

G-Side - Rabbits
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syX4G_Oq4SQ
highly underrated song, beat, video

Killer Mike and El-P - Butane
http://youtu.be/HdZuA23gScI
word.

Homeboy Sandman - Hold Your Head
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNyLT_quNVo
dude likes to have weird videos for his songs, that's for sure.
