I didn't see the SMRPG play today but I have to say I feel a little let down by the marathon. Not exactly his fault, because you can't control for luck and you just never know what you're going to get. But one second off the WR.. After so much preparation, that's sad. He had a $500 fundraising goal and received $620, so that part went well for him.

Much like with everything else in life, the Euros seem to have more sense on how to do things in a fun atmosphere without sucking the soul out of the event.

I felt the same after he basically tied the thing the first night, it seemed like he was just going to wreck the thing in a day or two. He got so burnt out by the end but what can you do. I'm sure he'll come back and get the run he wants soon.

Message from Cyghfer:

"sorry i disappointed a bit in terms of getting a great run, but i felt that luck was definitely against me on the whole during the marathon. plus, there was some routing/menu/jp language stuff that i simply didn't have enough time before the marathon to get to as high consistency as i could. i'm going to take a couple weeks of break from doing attempts at the game but i'll be back regularly doing attempts after that. i hope that everyone enjoyed watching despite only beating the record by a second!"

Sig was well ahead of WR pace with 62 stars but fell off and died on RR because he accidentally pressed c-up. :( He also had a very poor TTC.

Still ended with a PB of 50:10. If he didn't die and did perfect on TTC it would have been easily 49:30.

I feel like an idiot for having to check gamefaqs to make sure this was an actual NES game or not. :psyduck:

The "about" link on the game's (un)official site is an amusing read as well, complete with manual scans and everything.

Quite possible. Cosmo regularly has 1000-1500 and Siglemic 1500-2000, right?

My buddy streams league and regularly has 2000 viewers (cadburry) I know he makes over 1000 a month from ad revenue alone. Granted that's not much, but you also have to factor in subscriptions (2.50 per a month) and donations (they add up FAST).

So while it may not be a great living, it's more than enough to have your own place and extra money to spend. From playing video games.

sig lives with his parents but if he wanted to and streamed more regularly and only streamed attempts and such that people like to watch more he absolutely could. the amount of money he was getting back when he had his initial viewer surge was a little disgusting. cosmo doesn't really stream often enough at all for that though.

Awake and unreal, off to nowhere
It's got to be a blessing and a curse... I mean, I know speedrunners are of a different mindset and they can play the same game days at a time, but I would probably go nuts if I had to play Mario 64 like a day job. At least people like that Man vs Game guy and Towlie can play whatever they want and get a shitload of viewers. Although, i've tried watching them both and I don't get what the big deal is. Neither were very entertaining or charismatic.

You didn't find Man vs Game charismatic? You should try watching more. He's pretty drat charismatic and entertaining especially when he has his friend Zeke on. I can't stand anyone else who has a high viewer count though ie people who play Starcraft 2/Call of Duty/LoL/HoN.

Well it's a little early but time for a watch list.

Typing of the Dead is a great game. It'll be the best thing to watch assuming the stream runs well.

Sonic's story of Sonic Adventure is my thing so I'll either watch carefully or play along. I don't know Mapler90210

Final Fantasy VIII has some great break in it. It's worth seeing for anyone who knows the game fairly well but hasn't experienced the level of break in the LP going on.

TAS Bot might do Gradius. It's a good TAS so I hope they choose that game. The TAS bot is weak to certain kinds of luck and timing.

Little Big Planet is a curious game to speedrun. I can't stand the collision in it.

Mort the Chicken is also something I'll watch because of how odd the choice is.

Jumping Flash should be fun to see broken. Sick Ollies.

I'll see everything by peaches_, gombill, and duckfist but what else is new.

I think my personal watchlist is going to be both Startropics, Contra 3 and 4, Shatterhand, Legend of the Mystical Ninja, Legacy of the Wizard(race!), Typing of the Dead, Zelda II, Rygar(race!), both Duck Tales, and maybe LBP.

I like the variety they're tossing in here and a few of these are going to be extremely fun to watch, like the Legacy race.
