I was asking because while I've seen the Vibrams thing on paper, the only thing I've heard about single toe-box minimalist shoes being banned was from this one recruiter. quote:2. THERE ARE A VARIETY OF MINIMALIST RUNNING SHOES AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE AND WEAR. EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY, ONLY THOSE SHOES THAT ACCOMMODATE ALL FIVE TOES IN ONE COMPARTMENT ARE AUTHORIZED FOR WEAR. THOSE SHOES THAT FEATURE FIVE SEPARATE, INDIVIDUAL COMPARTMENTS FOR THE TOES, DETRACT FROM A PROFESSIONAL MILITARY IMAGE AND ARE PROHIBITED FOR WEAR WITH THE IPFU OR WHEN CONDUCTING PHYSICAL TRAINING IN MILITARY FORMATION. THIS CHANGE WILL BE REFLECTED IN THE NEXT UPDATE OF AR 670-1. That reads like it specifically allows shoes like the NB Minimus, Saucony's minimalist offerings... I think you can see where the confusion is coming from.

Those are just shoes aren't they, I mean, all shoes contain your toes in a single compartment... anyhow, MAYBE still at basic. Still wouldn't count on it and bear and mind you have to wear socks. Just an FYI the military is REALLY loving gay about poo poo like this.

I was allowed to use my own shoes (Nike Frees) at basic, but I saw a dude get his Vibrams confiscated even before the ban. If you want to wear your own shoes, you're better off bringing a brand new pair that fits the criteria. They can't make you buy a pair from the PX, and if your shoes are in good enough condition, then you'll be able to get away with using them.

The entire reason I was planning on buying a pair of NB Minimus was they're visually almost indistinguishable from normal shoes unlike my Vibrams, but at the same time they don't have dick for heel drop.

I'm mentally preparing myself to be hosed with though, because if the recruit demographics that I've seen pan out, I'm going to be roughly half again as wide as almost everyone else. I take solace in the hope that I get to knock someone out with a pugil stick.

What's so hooah about wanting to beat some dudes senseless with pugil sticks? More to the point, who the hell doesn't think that's pretty much the best day ever?

^Because you'll probably only fight once and it's way lamer than you imagine. Question about switching MOS...I only see "steps" online and nothing actually useful. Is there a minimum years served in an MOS required before one is able to reclass? I'm Army National Guard. I'm not particularly interested in switching any time soon, but I want to know for the future (and whether I should start the process sooner rather than later) because having a higher security clearance in the future would be pretty sweet for my future job prospects when I finish school.

That should answer all your eligibility/availability questions for the high-demand MOSs. For everything else, search for the latest in- and out-call message. Print them both out, study, and then go talk to your retention NCO for more details.

Pugil sticks are lame and I got my rear end whooped by some crazy kid. gently caress it, they make bullets for a reason? Also people get the gently caress beat out of them. One dude in my BCT company literally had his finger nearly broken off (it was hanging by soft tissue) along with several other people with just regular plain broken fingers.

Chances are, you might not even get to play with them these days, if they haven't been phased out in lieu of level 1 combatives, or if your company has more important training to attend to during your time there. Maybe it's a benning OSUT thing, but none of the companies in my entire training battalion saw the pugil sticks, the bayonet course, and just barely had time to cycle through the obstacle course. This was in 2009/2010 though, so maybe things are different now - ymmv. Instead, you could always just throw on some battle rattle and beat each other senseless in the barracks if you really want to rock your socks.

Our plan is to make it available under the BEAR program if numbers support. Moving over to cybersecurity after the end of this deployment, already have my Sec+, and the MOS would increase my pay that much more (they are already matching my current base salary). 35Q is the new cybersecurity MOS. If I can get one of those slots, I'd take it. I'm already in the IRR til 2015 anyway.

There's nothing on tap for AR/NG yet; they want to get the AC stood up first. AR/NG will come later, as well as warrant officers once they've got a sufficient pool of experienced enlisted to draw from. 35Q title is "Cryptologic Network Warfare Specialist". We shy away from 'cyber' because dem's muddy waters.

I've been tracking on that too. The whole arena of cyber security/intelligence seems like a wide open frontier. Something to look into in the future I suppose. One can hope the Guard/Reserves has a role in it in due time.

Pretty much all of the intelligence disciplines have a corresponding WO MOS so I would imagine this would be no different. If you go to the MI Space forums on AKO there is some more info.

Oh hey, I think I went to A school with a bunch of guys who were becoming 35Q. I can't really answer any questions about the actual work since I haven't checked into my first command yet, but the school itself was more "here is how linux and the internet routing works" and not "double click an icon to open a file".

So today I got my AIT orders along with a little info packet for the base I'll be at. I noticed on the orders it specifically states I must meet height and weight IAW 600-9. The welcome packet even goes so far as to say that I can pass the training without passing an APFT, but if I show up over-weight I get set home. This is weird, why is an over-weight flag so much worse? Is there some specific reason or is it just because? It would make more sense to me to be the opposite.

How you look on a TRADOC post matters. Also, you'll be interacting with IET soldiers and they don't want them to see a fat sergeant and think they can immediately begin slacking on PT when they get to their unit.

Got an odd one here. I'm writing a letter to a Warrant Officer in the Canadian Forces but I'm not sure what the correct way to address him is. Would I write "Dear CD1 Warrant Officer Jim Bob" or "Dear Warrant Officer Jim Bob" or just use the standard Mr. line? I'm applying for a job and I know from some Ameri-goon friends that addressing someone in the army correctly matters, especially at high ranks. I know literally nothing of the US army or the Canadian Forces but I'd like to get this little thing right. Google just returns me American Army resources but I don't know if it's the same for the Canadian Forces.
