How much are you generally dying before you find a quest/area you can win? I'm reading pretty conflicting things about this around the internet, with some people cruising along without dying much and others struggling to find a single quest they can beat, with the only real way to tell being trial and error.

I'm nearly convinced but still slightly unsure whether to wait for a price drop, although if nothing else I would like to get my pawn out there now. He's Freighter S. and will be a moderately badass fighter, and probably the pack mule since I'm pretty sure my main Emosnipe is size S.

Troublesome Tome sidequest spoilers

I read on the internet that Salomon's Grimoire from the Troublesome Tome quest was a good item and that it is worth making a forgery to give to the quest guy. So after spending 37K on the forgery and waiting a day for it to be produced I turned it in and he was none the wiser. Cool. I went to go use the real thing hoping it would give me a cool new spell or something and it summoned a bunch of fireballs in the middle of town and killed a bunch of people. Now I'm in jail.

This game is great.

Kotaku is getting pretty :godwin: about the Dragon's Dogma issue. Someone called out the reviewer in a subsequent article about Dragon's Dogma DLC for posting a clearly inflammatory piece and got warned by an editor over it.

I was surprised to find someone had actually used my brown beauty and I got some items! It's a little distressing that when I go into the rift 80% of the pawns I see are female striders.

Yes, I just found one at a place called Soulflayer Canyon. I cannot really give directions to it. It's kind of out on an obscure place.

Anyone near the end game yet? I finished all of Ser Maximilian's quests outside the castle gates. Does the audience with the Duke start the end game? It gives a "Make sure you've done everything first".

I am way beyond that point and I do not feel I am near any end game yet.

It's just after you do 2 of those 4 quests you can meet the duke, and you cannot complete those other quests after you meet the duke.

As somebody who played the demo and was very disappointed by it, does the full game open up a lot more? I'm kind of weary of it because the only two places I was allowed to explore was a dark as hell dungeon filled with corridors and a really open field where I fought a griffon but couldn't explore as the section ended as soon as the griffon died. It just made me feel really uneasy about the full game.

Anyone have any hints for the Lost Cause and Thanks Mislaid quests? I think they're two of the DLC ones. They're both just asking to find something, but "Help I lost a letter" isn't exactly a great push forward. The other one mentions a river festivus, but I checked by places with rivers/water near Gran Soren and haven't found anything.

Why are ogres the most dangerous things I have fought so far? They apparently aren't even classified as "large" enemies, not having multiple life bars destructable sections and stuff. But holy poo poo they just take damage forever, they're just a giant uniform hunk of iron with arms and legs. I just got killed trying to kill the last one in the quarry, there's no room to maneuver or even see very well in there. Fighting actual giant enemies is fun but fighting these things is not.

I am terrrrrrrrible at doing quests in this game. I'm not even sure I know how. Green or blue exclamation points means completed one, right? I think I've done maybe two of those. I don't even have a quest marker on the map anymore. All I know is that there is a castle over there, and I'm gonna go scope that poo poo out.

Level 20, just made it through the quarry to... what appears to be the entire rest of the map? I think Ogres might be particularly sensitive in their ugly faces because after struggling with every one I came across, I did a Holy-buffed scarlet kisses on the head a downed one and took down like 60% of his health before he could get up again. VS the holy-buffed everything else I had previously tried using. I think the head might be the ogre version of the tail.

Also, so, fighting a dragon for the first time, are they SUPPOSED to be able to cloud my vision, make my character sluggish, and cause my pawns to attack me all at the same time? Are these going to be status effects that I should teach my mage how to cure or am I just suppose to like... do some quests first or something?

moderately annoying

I haven't had an ogre kill me yet, but they definitely are the hardest enemy I've fought so far, besides maybe the random 10 billion HP doom bandits.

Also I found a pretty rad pair of daggers for magic archers, with like 300+ magic power and they're constantly on fire. Good thing I'm going assassin or else I might really use them.

I think that chest contents are not only random, but are randomly selected when you open them as opposed to when the game is started or when you enter the location they are in. I guess if you don't like the lot you got you can reload and try again.

edit: vvv sit them down in a special knowledge seat that I guess is often near rift stones, and when they say "I try to speak my mind" or something tell them to stop that.

Cyclops have an obvious weakness. What I do vs Ogres is throw oil at them and burn them and melee damage the poo poo out of them, if they get caught on fire, it does even more damage.

As a magic archer, I have those daggers and they are amazing. It turns sunburst into a total blender on fire-vulnerable creatures like ogres and griffons.

It's not explained well for an element that killed a lot of my enjoyment of this game. Sit down in the Command Chair after you rest at an inn. Second question should be something like: "Would you like me to be more talkative or more quiet?" For some loving reason, this is a yes/no question. Yes = Blather on about absolutely nothing useful. No = I'll be quieter save for quest info, responses to commands, etc.

Also, find the option to turn off the onscreen text for pawns.

See, I haven't had that question come up yet. All the questions I get seem to refer to the pawn's tone/attitude. I guess I'll just keep trying randomly. I don't mind as much, but I know it's going to annoy the hell out of everyone who rents my pawn.

Hey guys! I'm having a good time, what about you?

Update for potential magic class people:

I've given my sorcerer a bit more time and have started to enjoy it. I actually downgraded back to mage for the time being so once I get the augments and spells that I like then I'll switch back. Now that I've got a bit better gear and a competent party together my survivability has gone up and overall things are much better.

Protip: get an elemental staff ASAP. Having a fireball on my normal X attack helps so much and no longer requires boons from support pawns.

e: My GT is Rabbit Holed if anybody needs an archer pawn. Mine is named Kavinsky, he's a total 80s dirtbag but pretty handy with a bow. I've currently got him set up as a ranger and he's got decent crowd control because he can attack many people at once or send individuals flying off cliffs.

I also recommend staying a mage until rank 6 or 7 if you want to be a magic user since that's where the majority of the early attack spells come from.
