Unless you're getting a killer deal, go with the 32 gig TF-300 for 400 bucks. I'm sure the 16gig version will drop to 350 from 380 quickly, so unless you're getting the tf101 for 200 bucks opt for the 300 instead. It's the updated 101 in every possible way.

Thanks for this info. Actually I would be getting a TF101 for about 250. I'm going to look into the TF300 a bit and see what it's all about. I thought the TF101 also had a microSD slot? If I am mistaken, then more thanks are in order because this was one of the selling points for me.

Yes the TF101 does have a microSD slot. I have lost all rebooting issues since the lastest update by the way. I bought mine when it was on sale for $250 a month or so ago and couldn't be happier.

Honestly, I'd just wait until the TF101 comes down to $200 (which should be very soon). The TF300 is definitely nice, but it's not 50-80% nicer, *unless* you play lots of super high res video and output it over HDMI - in that case, get the TF300.

I didn't really plan on using the mini HDMI all that much. Maybe for some gimmicky "Hey check out this stupid video on youtube" moments at a friends house or something. I just want a nice sized tablet for emulators, web browsing, perhaps some netflix, just a time killer for trips and downtime at work basically. I like the look and size of the TF101, the price, and the specs (considering the relatively low cost). Also I have had many products from Asus in the past and they haven't done me wrong so far so I kind of trust them a bit more than some of the other companies making tablets at the moment.

I picked up a Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 from Costco after playing around with my MIL's. It will pull toddler game and car-backseat video duty. If it had a higher-res screen and vanilla ICS it would be a champion. It's OMAP is noticeably faster than my Xoom's tegra 2. I don't think it is too bad, really. The thing that is getting me is the form factor. I am loving this 7" size compared to the Xoom. If Google can deliver at least a 1280x800 res with Tegra 3 in the Nexus Tablet with Asus, I will buy it on release.

Personally, I would only consider the TF101 a good buy if you can get the tablet and dock for under $300, preferably $250 or less. I would think that the TF101 would be similar to what one might expect from a 10" Kindle Fire. Only problem is, it costs way more than the KF10 is actually going to cost.

Speaking of the Galaxy Tab 2, I tried to dig deeper into my "wavy lines" issue and it looks like somebody has already performed this sort of analysis, just about two years ago for some older smartphones: http://www.neowin.net/news/robot-touchscreen-analysis-reveals-differences-between-smartphones So it looks like this is just one common way that manufacturers cheap out on components. I wish this would become a standard element of reviews.

I was going to blow my money on the Tab 7 2.0, but now that this news came out...I think I'll wait. I've never owned a Nexus device before so that would be kind of cool and if it's the same price point or cheaper and the hardware isn't made like complete poo poo it'll be a no brainer. Unless it's hosed like the Verizon Nexus is hosed

I would guess that as the picture quality goes up on the FFC, so does the bandwidth requirements to broadcast it. It's somewhat of a moot point since most people are using tablets on WiFi, but that's probably a reason.

Also a full 1080p frame is just slightly over 2 megapixels so it's not like going up to 5 or 8 megapixels would be of much use.

I've often wondered about the front camera being worse than the back camera. I've also wondered how much cameras and gps add to the price of a tablet as I've literally no need for them on a tablet. I think the 3G radio costing so much more is more of a 'because we can' thing than actual added costs. As for decontented tablets you could look at the Acer A500 vs the A200 - the A200 lost the rear camera, light sensor, GPS, some internal storage and metal body of the A500 and sold for about 1/2 to 2/3rds its price (at least initially before Tegra 2 became irrelevant)

I know people might think front or rear facing cameras make no sense, and I was in that camp a couple of years ago, but now with friends around the world, Skype is such an awesome way to stay in contact, and on an iPad means its as light as possible to carry around and show stuff off.
