Is it really important? Just keep putting your sword into things and eventually it will be maxed out, it doesn't take very long.

How viable is it to always rent your healers? After finally ordering this I was going to roll one of the four Strider vocations myself and have my main pawn be a Fighter/general tank, but then I realized that I would always have to get healing mages from other people. Is it easy enough to search for the skills you need that I could rely on getting the ones I'm missing from others, or is that sort of luck-based? I've seen search criteria in videos for vocations but not skills.

You can see what skills pawns have before you hire them. I don't know if you can search for particular skills but from what I've seen, almost all mage/sorcerer pawns have healing spells on them. I've hired healers the whole game no problem.

The problem I've had is that rented pawns seem to be really inconsistent with how frequently and reliably they heal. Even going back to Losonti's pawn after he gained a few levels seemed to affect the rate which he was healing, so it's not even a matter of favoriting a healer pawn and calling it good.

Generally, it's been easy enough to find one every few levels, but if you want really dependable healing, I would probably recommend using your main pawn for that.

I've been sitting here for 5 mins trying to think of a joke to make but I just realised the animators of Mass Effect already did it for me

Right now my healer is Lil B (not at whom to check which goon he belongs to) and he's working out pretty well. He seems to be very concerned with keeping our health topped off, which is a boon on escorts where the ward keeps getting between me and the saurians (looking at you, Adaro! :catstare:)

Where do we see the comment for our pawns? Mine was rented out by about five people at once judging by the last set of gifts I got, and I didn't see any option to look at the comments or ranks; none showed up on their own either.

Just finished with the Altar quest finally. A few levels and knowledge of how to deal with them made those lizardmen way easier. Except those chameleon guys, those are assholes! Only two really bad parts of that dungeon. One were those ghost things on the lower level. I... am not entirely sure how to actually deal with them. I guess only magic works? My arrows did nothing and my daggers couldn't reach. So I had to wait for my pawns to stop aiming their spells into pillars.

And then getting poisoned, having no healing items, which meant having the two mages in my party spamming their healing spells at me. Which... y'know, good under normal circumstances, really bad indoors on narrow platforms over water!

Looking at my quests, there's nothing really interesting I want to go for next, so I may wander the lands for awhile. See if I can't run across some big monsters. Valmiro's still not around, so I've decided the quest is bugged or something. Dude is nowhere in the area he should be.

Would it be worth it changing my main pawn mage into a sorcerer? Or should I keep him as a mage? Losing the healing spell would kinda suck, especially since I just got the upgraded version. The sorcerer's Miasma spell worth the trade-off?

There's a certain place when you get your pawn back where you hit "x" to see details, and you can go over what your pawn learned and how they were rated.

Note: this does not seem to always work, and sometimes it just won't show any of that information.

Yeah this happens to me a lot. Just about every time I rest at an inn I get a bunch of gifts, but only occasionally does it show me who hired my pawn or the ratings/messages. I dunno what's up with that.

If I'm trying to make my main pawn be a healer/buffer should so just stay as a mage? It seems like all I have available now to buy at around mage level 5 or 6 is combat spells and I don't want to dilute the AI's skillset and waste DP if eventually I'll be able to buy more healer stuff.

I've advanced a little bit into the game now, and have a quick question about a quest I know exists but can't get started. After I left the Encampment to follow the hydra head, some dude came up to me and said that Quina, that soppy bird from the beginning, had gone missing. But I decided to bugger off and do other stuff, and went back to the starting town later, only now I can't start the quest to find her. Any hints?

Are the Cassardis quests good worth going back and getting for a level 25ish character?

I completely missed them and I'm wondering if I should go back and get them. But I only just got around to starting Ser Maximillions Wyrm Hunter quests after getting dragged all over the loving map on those escort and grimoire quests and even the Wyrm Hunter quests are feeling a little on the easy side since I took so long to get to them.

e: also what's all this talk I keep reading about the blacksmith and giving him idols to get access to better equipment. Does this require a quest? Are you talking about the blacksmith in Gran Soren with the sick kid who wants wakestones? If so do I have to give him some to get access to him? And is the idol exchange for better loot access something to works with other vendors or just him? I know there's a dude up by the great wall fort who sells expensive stuff as well, does the blacksmith get better stuff than him?

The same thing happened to me. You can find Quina again at the abbey in wilted forest, but you missed out on your introduction to witchwood and meeting the witch. I think the witch gives out quests later on but I can't say for sure because I completely missed her my first playthrough.

Also, something I just found out is that you don't use any stamina when you're directly on top of an enemy that you're climbing. In case anyone wasn't aware of that...

Later on the blacksmith near the inn will give you a quest to recover idols for him. Madeleine the merchant also has the same request, though I don't know if they're mutually exclusive or if there are enough idols to go around.

Ancient Quarry. A short distance west of Gran Soren. There's a merchant outside who gives you a quest to clean it out. Complete it, then go inside and find him. Save your gold, it costs nearly 400k for the complete set.

Dear God. This game. So I'm travelling at night right outside of Gran Soren and I decide to simply cross the river because it'll cut down on my travel time. Halfway through the river, the water goes waist high extinguishing my lantern and then I'm ambushed by lizardmen; complete with the quest title.

You have not experienced sheer terror of fighting in pure darkness with the only light you get is from the occasional magic spell. I think the only reason why I even survived that encounter was because I'm an assassin with all the night buffs. That fight lasted so long and it was honestly the first one where I had to chomp on my stamina regens because I needed to seriously keep moving and attacking. I had no idea if there was a rude dude behind ready to penetrate me with his spear.

The one thing this game utterly fails at that Demons/Dark Souls beats the living crap out of it at is showing off the deadliness and differentiation visually. Level 2 chump bandits look exactly like level 40 death-to-you-swiftly bandits.

In Dark Souls the higher level skeleton guys were loving red or black and had mean looks about them. These guys look just as pansy as their lower level counterparts.

I've heard my pawns say things like "which bandits have the grimoire?" and "sounds like Maul has the grimoire" or something but have no idea what these are in reference to. Where is the "south" where the thieves guilds are?

Also, was the Quina/Selene quest a story one or just a billboard thing? I never went back to Cassardis to get it but have since dealt with both of them in escort quests: I took Selene to the healing springs but now she still just lies on the floor of her witch hut, and I took Quina to the prayer falls and now she appears to be a nun but also talks about how she couldn't find the witch to learn more about my scar?

You have to check their Inclination on the Profile page. Those characteristics determine their AI. For a healer, you want one with Mendicant, Utilitarian, or possibly Nexus.

It can be tough to find one with the right mix because it is not obvious how to get those traits from character creation or the question and answer sessions. The best way to do it is to buy the potions from the Rift crystal merchant at the encampment, but most people don't know about that yet.
