I was thinking, modern RPGs sure have diluted the definition of "quest" a lot. Seeking the Holy Grail used to be a good example of a quest, now it's "collect ten wolf pelts". I know it's not just this game's fault but I was thinking of it while I played. When I go to the grocery store to get more milk, is that a quest?

Strider/Ranger pawns also seem entirely useless at breaking them and they're magic immune, so I'm going to have to go back to town and unlock a class I had no intention of using just to break an amulet myself. Great design, hahaha... ha...

Holy moly shadow fortress. That took me, uhh, way longer than it should have. I don't know if it was on purpose or if it had really just gotten that late, but I started it at night apparently, I couldn't see poo poo the first time I tried using the ballista and it was hectic as gently caress. Got some sweetass daggers at the end though. Also, to the goon that posted on one of these pages that women are dressed reasonably in this game, are you kidding me? Right now my girl strider main is wearing some chestplate that only covers her boobs and some shorts. It's as bad as it sounds. And for fun she has that bandit cap on, the one that looks like an executioner's hood. This isn't even on purpose, just me throwing random crap on. Sadly my pawn is a sorc and their outfits are just boring. Big ugly robes that cover everything else up and look the same as everyone else? you betcha.

The thing is that having armor that only covers the boobs is pretty much your choice - that's probably your armor, so put some clothes on too. Lots of male armor looks retarded unless you're wearing a shirt or some kind of padding under it.

I like how they actually separated armor and clothing in this game. If you only wore armor you'd be chafing like crazy from all the metal against bare skin. Kinda odd how they categorized Chain Mail as clothing, though.

Touche. I definitely have clothing on as well. Also I'm a girl, so I'm not some creepy perv dressing her skimpily on purpose just to stare at her backside. Though drat she is fit as hell. To be fair I guess I've been lazy in checking the shop for new items. And sometimes it gives like +2 to defense which just doesn't seem worth it.

My Ranger is like 3 feet tall, bald with a goatee, wrinkly as hell with the worst posture imaginable and I dress him in nothing but belts. He is covered in belts and skulls. The customization options in this game are sweet. He looks out of place in every cutscene.

gently caress Hellhounds and gently caress Succubi. And gently caress getting in an arena surrounded by both. I'm actually having a lot more trouble in the post-game content as a Magic Archer than I did a Mystic Knight.

The catacombs crawl gave me such ugly flashbacks to Blighttown. All it was missing was the lag. Urg. It was a fun dungeon, though! Babby's first ogre fight. First real ogre fight, anyway. I killed the one under the pawn shop, but that was only because it wandered off the edge. Not too different than a cyclops, just thicker skin. They still burn nicely. Switched my vocations around. Main went from Strider to Ranger, pawn went from Mage to Sorcerer. Been going alright so far. I've been renting out Mage pawns in case I need healing. Ranger's fun! Decided I was sick of sidequests so, at L30, I went to see the Duke. The hell quests did it remove, my quest log's still got like two dozen unfinished quests in it. Confused. Also, the cutscene with him and the duchess both kinda show that the Arisen's this goggle-eyed mute who just kind of gapes and stares at everything like Link would. My main's a young girl with a bow that's literally larger than she is, so I'd imagine she doesn't actually have a clue what's going on and just rolls with the punches, because she's just staring straight ahead through everything. Or maybe she's related to Gordon Freeman. If you don't talk to the Duchess a few times, how long does the awesome jester's hat stick around? My Arisen looked ludicrous with it. Speaking of awesome, impractical crap, I'm so sad that the robes I found in the catacombs have less defense than my pawn's current getup. It looked like the cultists' robes. Dark Souls will spoil you in regards to outfitting your character in a way that looks good, rather than being practical. Bit more important here, considering how hard the big monsters hurt. I was kinda unsure of Ranger at first, but man... started the first(?) griffin quest. Shooting a mess of flaming arrows at it, setting the entire thing on fire, then pelting it until it falls out of the sky is completely awesome. Can you shoot it down over the ocean? What happens? Does the second half of the quest not trigger?

Just slew the Ur-Dragon: some fairly major spoilers about killing him and the reward: Once he got down to really low hp the next time I started the fight he was at 0 hp and all of his weak points were glowing. You have to destroy every single weak point before he flies off, but they only take a few hits each and destroying one makes him fall over so it's not that hard. For my reward I got 150k exp, a cool mask, abyssinal chest/arm/leg armor, a 2 hand mace, a 1 hand mace, a great shield, an archistaff and 20 goddamn wakestones. Also everything I was wearing was dragonforged, natch Exactly what point of the story does the "angry mob trying to burn the witch" quest appear? I don't want to miss it this time. quote:Post game question: is there any way to open all those locked doors in the everfall? I doubt it, I think they're just there so they could mix up the chamber layouts with making a new dungeons each time.

There's a sack that you can gather from in the tent with the rift stone in the encampment, on the other side of the door from the innkeeper. It gives me 2 bugles out of the 3 things I gather every time.

So the trick to getting the Golden Idol seems to be achieving the perfect result. While escorting Symone, you have to stay close to her. If she ever asks you if you're trying to ditch her you already failed. Start over if that happens. When she plays hide-and-seek, she's either in the Inn or the Alehouse. Find her immediately. She'll then ask for some water, just carry a flask of water on you and give it to her immediately. When she races, let her win. You know you'll get the Golden Idol if you talk to her at Fournival's house and she asks if you're a good friend of her father's and if she'll see you again.

I can't decide if escort missions are the best or worst thing in this game. On the one hand it adds a new level of tension that makes travel really exciting, on the other hand the NPCs are suicidal and despite looking like capable fighters, they can't even deal with a few bandits without biting it.

When I killed the Ur-Dragon offline earlier today, I used Warrior/Sorcerer/Mage/Ranger. Another cool thing about escort quests: the escorted person counts as a party member. So if you're a cool cat like myself and have Gransys dotted with Portcrystals then escort quests are basically 5 minute gimmes where I use it, skip over to the destination, then pop back to Gran Soren.

So, uh, I might have over done it in the Griffin quest... When I lured it in to land in the spot you give it a goblin snack, I proceeded to alpha strike it so heavily with a double Arc of Might from both me and my pawn that it was completely stun locked and what followed was like dropping a piano on a pigeon. Several flaming pianos. I think I've seen the same quest done by others and it was meant to fly away and lead you to some ruins somewhere where you have an epic showdown. That, uh, didn't happen. It's kinda dead. A lot. Did I just destroy my chances at getting into that place, or can I just wander in whenever I feel like it?

VDay posted:Am I the only one that doesn't really have trouble with escort quests? The NPCs generally just stay right next to me so worst case scenario is I just back out of a fight a little and they come with me. Also you can heal the person you're escorting with a healing spell back up to full health any time. Maybe the problem is that I never stay still while fighting, due to heavy use of blink strike, and so the NPC gets separated from me. I didn't realize that they would stay near me if I was staying still, I'll try that next time. edit: I've given up on mystic knight for a while, all the crazy gimmicks it has don't make up for the basic sword techniques I lose from not being a fighter or assassin. I've never bothered figuring out how to transfer screenshots from my ps3 to computer. The armor is cool but a bit subdued. The 2h mace is cool and not at all subdued. The mask is one of the few helmets I've found that doesn't obscure your hair so it's a winner in my book. It looks like a gold phantom of the opera mask. My party comp was Me: sword/bow assassin, Valodya: fighter, and a random mage with heals and holy buffs and a ranger. You pretty much need a mage, but I think melee fighters and especially climbers are your best bets for damage since bows/mages tend to die constantly and reviving them is the most dangerous part of fighting him.
