What's a good US source for 12" D&B singles? I don't feel like paying £5 shipping for 2-3 songs, no matter how good they are.

For new stuff, maybe Groove Distribution in Chicago (http://www.groovedis.com/), and there is this mail-order only shop just outside of DC (http://www.dnbdubrecords.com/). I have only ordered from Zion's Gate, through discogs.com. If I get new stuff, I now tend to use surus.co.uk, which is ST Holdings' shop. Usually free MP3s with vinyl purchases.

Obviously the correct answer here is you just need to buy more records so the postage doesn't seem so high! I got to admit though that dnbdubrecords seem decently priced. $10.99 for a £5/6.99 single doesn't seem too ridiculous. The Guardian has a nice wee interview with Martyn, talking a bit about his past exploits in Holland as well as talking about Washington. Sadly a bit brief and being The Guardian it bollocks it up a bit when they bother to waste some column inches(or pixels or whatever) on talking about the whole 'American Dubstep/Skrillex' thing. I don't know, really why bother? Especially when it could be better spent trying to dig a more deeper interview. Though at least they don't waste serious time on it but still. Anyway DNR Vinyl continue their recent run of re-issuing old Garage classics, this time with the Underground Solution (no not the Roger Sanchez Underground Solution) and their classic track Release The Pressure. Unlike the Ice Cream reissues though this includes a new 2012 remix too. So there we go, the remix could be good could be shite, but a cheapish way to get a fresh copy of the original track at least which is getting a bit pricey nowadays. Also while I should probably be posting this in the House thread but I just don't think they're cool enough to appreciate it. New Phil Asher out this week is awesome, but since it's Phil Asher/Restless Soul you probably new that already.

Just catching up with this thread and gently caress me that DJ Veteran vs. RS4 track is nice. I wish we'd hear more tracks with that kind of attitude nowadays - it's getting a bit too middle class isn't it?

To be fair I always thought he was talking more about the more generic sunday league amateur kinda stuff when he said that. The Soundcloud Specials as I like to call them. Bassline is still kicking about, but not much really gets my notice nowadays, at least nothing that I've heard has matched the likes of that Oris Jay track. Of course that's the same with most music nowadays so I shouldn't be too surprised. Paleface and Northern Line still push out the occasional Kyla track or the odd remix. But even then some of the latest stuff he's produced seems a bit white bread D&B, just with some nice vocals. But hey I'm not really the best to ask about that scene right now. It seems to have gone back to the way it used to be before the London crowd thought it was really cool - purely done out Sheffield/Leeds way and gently caress all ever seems to escape that net. Even any forums or whatever (which there used to be) seem to be all gone. Anyone out that way it'd be cool to hear how it's doing down there. Give it's pulse for us. Everybody I personally know from there are either up here or way down south. I should probably remember to pick up a CD pack or two.

It sucks how grime has been so influenced by the US sound while the UK bass sound is finally starting to cross into the mainstream across the pond. I don't really know anything about bassline but I've been listening to DJ Pantha mixes and they're really rad. Can anyone recommend some other bassline guys to me? Also, Oris Jay's releasing an album next month and I couldn't be more excited.

Paleface has a Rinse mix that is a couple years old. Also, there were a lot lot lot of bassline mixes and CD packs put out back in the day that can probably be found fairly easily by searching 'best of bassline' or something.

Yeah the Paleface mix is good. At the very least it's worth it purely for this track. Actually it's a good place to find some of the better Bassline guys. Just trace it out from the tracklist/artist names, though like I said I don't really keep track with that scene much nowadays so I don't know if many of them are still doing it. And there still is a decent amount of CD packs release today actually. Ecko and S-Line Records are the usual suspects. The tracklisting (or the covers for that matter) are never exactly subtle most of the time, but sometimes all you need is massive hands up in the air kinda things. I know it's apparently supposed to be a piss take of all those old American dance shows, though personally I think it's a pretty good pastiche of the dance videos that came out of the late 80s/90s (for some reason Dee-Lite is the one that sticks in my mind). It's all very clean though isn't it? Final Cut Pro ain't got nothing on an old Atari or Amiga. Though we really are back to '91 again though aren't we? Just remember in the coming months with the bland and boring comes the rougher, more exciting and energetic underground (not that I'm saying Ne1butu is boring, actually one of my favourites off the album).

You could also check the recent artist LPs that Rinse have put out. The new Brackles and Roska one, and the older Roska one (the one with the white cover). Check out his Rinse mix too, then you can always just pick any artist on there you like the sound of and just race through their back catalogue, see if there is anything you like (Lights On would probably be an easy crowd pleaser I'd imagine) I'd also say the the 130 stuff off the Zed Bias album on Tru Thoughts from late last year. Worth a shot maybe.

This is cool and cheap. Not a lot of ~classic~ style stuff but a lot of house-ier UK stuff and the Planet Mu staples. About what you'd expect from one of the Autechre guys It's 100% exclusives from what I can tell, which is impressive, but then most compilation exclusive tracks in general seem to be drive-occupiers that wouldn't make the cut for a B-side. Still, if you like 1/3 of this stuff you're still paying an outrageous price for it. * e - Guess I didn't see the Darqwan track, or the Phaeleh track. Or the Milanese track! Where the hell has that guy been. I guess I'll count Geiom track probably counts, he's been there for awhile. So there's stuff here for most tastes. Dude you have to keep in mind that many nights are still aggro as gently caress, at least here in the USA. These disclosure tunes are fantastic, but even in major cities there are large groups of people that eat up electro house and wobble dubstep tunes. And then there is the OG DNB crowd that loves it techy. I think the scene has been improving by leaps and bounds, but from my vantage point it has just begun to "nice up" again.

At this point I think the tear out stuff is its own thing that isn't really relevant to the history of UK bass music or where it's going in the future. It's branched off like DnB. Meanwhile a lot of boring dolphin garage seems to be getting an inordinate amount of praise and hogging the limelight a bit at least in terms of mainstream + critical attention to the point where I can see it reaching a saturation point in a year or two like post-Spongebob dubstep did around 2008. People are still putting out cheeky tunes like this though so maybe I'm worried about nothing.
