It's opening them for the first time. This means Firefox doesn't bring your computer to its knees when you open it up, and it tries to restore every single tab you had open in the last session at once. To go back to the old behavior, go to Options-Tabs, and uncheck "Don't load tabs until selected."

Memory Leaks are bad even on the 32-bit version. Something is wrong when your browser is using up to 3 gigs of memory.

And it made me chuckle heeheehee that the dude picked that image for the description, like it was some regular old thing. "Hey dude, found this firefox bug. Thought you guys could fix it so I can enjoy my anime porn without all this aliasing"

I've got two problems. 1. Firefox hangs up constantly. Like 5-6 times a day. 2. When I restart firefox, the first tab doesn't display in the tab line. Err, let me illustrate:  There should be a tab there. But there isn't. If I open a new tab from the same window, it will appear in the marked space, but I won't be able to go to the previous tab without closing it. Help>

So this has been bugging me for a while now and I just want to know if this is normal or did something not uninstall/install correctly and I have 2 running or whatever. When I watch a flash video like from youtube, in my task manager it shows flash player running x2 is this normal?  Also I'm on Windows 7 64bit so shouldn't flash be 64 bit as well or is that normal too?

That's normal; it's a result of the sandboxed Flash player. Firefox and Flash should both be 32 bit unless you've got some weird stuff going on. Firefox's 32-bit code, especially the Javascript interpreter, is optimized like crazy. The 64-bit version hasn't had nearly the same amount of work. Since you're running a 32-bit browser, you need 32-bit plugins, too.

Two instances is a biproduct of protected mode. It's kind of similar to how Chrome will show a instance for every tab. And flash would remain 32-bit unless you change to a 64-bit version of Firefox, or IE. In Firefox's case its still is developmental. Don't worry about either, it's all normal. edit: crap. Speaking of which, what's the reason for Mozilla still pretending that Firefox still can't do 64bit? I've been using the official 64bit nightlies since version 12, and they're been mostly rock stable from what I can tell. 64bit Flash also works fine.

I've seriously not experienced any issues from the Javascript engine being "slower". I can play this at full speed and that's as demanding as any Javascript application I've seen online: http://gamecenter.grantgalitz.org/ And 64 bit Flash has been WAY less buggy for me than 32 bit too.

I would be all for 64bit flash and letting Firefox hog up all my RAM, I have multiple GBs for reason.  Really, I have 12GB of RAM for when I play games, but I spend so many hours a day just browsing the web with Firefox using up only 200 or 300MB. . . Also, the latest version of flash is soo loving buggy I am tempted to switch to 64bit just to see if that is a little more stable.As for Javascript is that really a matter of 64bit makes it slow, or is it more the fact that 32bit is the more popular option browser so right and thus it is optimized better than 64bit?

I ran some "benchmarks" earlier and some stuff is slightly faster and some stuff is slightly slower in Javascript apparently. But the performance difference doesn't seem to matter at all on my machine. Like I said, that Game Boy Color emulator implemented entirely in Javascript runs fine for me even, and that's some pretty hefty workload for JS. And 64 bit Flash is a LOT less buggy in my experience, same with 64 bit Java. This is the build I use: http://waterfoxproject.org/

Yeah there's nothing about 64-bit that makes it inherently slower (aside from code size), but there also isn't a reason to put effort into optimizing it when the ability to use more memory isn't desired right now. Mozilla is working directly with Adobe to resolve their Flash issues (which are all problems on the Adobe side), so hopefully things should be improving there soon. As a reminder, you can disable Protected Mode for Flash using the instructions I reposted on the last page. There is a security cost to doing this of course.

I was reading about the upcoming planned "Australis" UI. I'm not a guy that has a knee jerk negative response to UI changes. I've used Firefox as my primary browser since 0.8 and have basically liked all of their UI changes since then pretty much instantly. I loathe omnibars though and don't see how it's an improvement in any way over the current Awesome bar + configurable search bar. One of Firefox's primary strengths is its ease of customization. It might be too early to say, but should it be possible to change the UI to have a separate search bar like in the current Firefox UI or Opera? I'd probably switch to Opera if it's not, but I prefer certain Firefox extensions and Opera"s compatibility can be kind of wonky on some sites. I can't remember what version I was on when I made the switch to Firefox a few months ago, but I don't think I've ever had a separate search bar. Personally, I prefer having an omnibar where I can just use keywords for different search engines, so I don't have to use two different keyboard shortcuts for either entering a URL or a search.

Chrome's omnibar is the only thing that I feel bad about leaving behind with firefox. Autolearning search engines on websites the first time I use them, and then I can do a search on that website from anywhere by just typing the first couple letters out and hitting tab. I wish there was an extension that did this - the omnibar extension is terrible. Also the newtab page for firefox is really awful. Why would I want it to show the most recent stuff - I want it to list stuff I visit all the time, and not have stuff I just happened to load thrice in one session on there the next time I make a new tab.

You could do the same as I did, remove all the sites you don't want, pin the ones you do want and reorder however you want. It won't show any recent sites if all nine are pinned.

Open the Library (Ctrl+Shift+B) and drag any sites you really like onto the new tab page. If you don't tell Firefox what sites you want there, it'll just have to guess.

Is anyone else getting crashes at startup today in the latest beta? My homepage is google so their video game logo may be causing it. It eventually is stable after a handful of crashes and restarts.

Sorry if this has been mentioned before: does the location bar not show any text for anybody else on Nightly? I've had that problem since I reinstalled Windows and Nightly, so I'm not sure if it's a hardware acceleration/anti-aliasing/whatever issue. I don't think it's a problem with Nightly on its own, though?
