While I do not have a phobia of clowns, they were one of the few things that honestly terrified me when I was a child. I watched many adult horror movies when I was very, very young and never had any nightmares or scares. And I'm talking about stuff like Alien, Terminator, etc... . But clowns always unsettled me, the more twisted their features, the more unsettling I found them to be. It got really bad after a little "incident" with a children's book though. At my grandparent's house, there was this closet with drawers full of kids books and comics. One of them was basically a large picture book containing a real man dressed as a clown (with those extra extremely large feet) visiting hand drawn scenes of his twisted clown world. My sister loved it, but I deeply, deeply hated the book and always stuffed it at the bottom of the drawer. The problem however, was that I always stumbled on the book every time I searched the drawer for a book. It was comparable to the smell of rotten eggs; you can't stand it and you can't ignore it. So, I devised a plan to get rid of it. Just before we'd leave my grandparent's place on a certain day, I'd sneak into the back area where all the garbage was kept and snug it into the pile of old papers. I was 4 or 5 years old, so I reveled at my masterful execution of my equally masterful plan as we drove out of the driveway. That's when my fear of clowns started. As my grand parents were about to toss out the garbage and old papers, they stumbled upon the old book and put it back in the closet. When I returned to their place later during the week, I found the book staring at me as I opened the drawer. The best way to describe how I felt is like this:  I was certain from then on that the book was something demonic and got back into the drawler on its own. I was honest to god afraid for almost 10 years to even be on the same floor where the closet was. My distrust of clowns turned into pure fear and paranoia. It went even so far that I refused to wear any paint on my face for a large part of my childhood, simply due to my fear of clowns. As I grew older, the fear faded away and I saw how stupid it all was, but I'm still slightly unsettled every time I see a clown. I just don't like them. So yeah, gently caress clowns.
