For those that have played it, what do you think of the girlfriend missions? On one hand, I'm let down that each girlfriend story ends after 1-2 missions. But on the other, it makes sense to me, plot-wise - Wei is a man leading a double life, so it would be dangerous to start any sort of romance.

All but the last one have logical reasons for ending. Amanda is a tourist and leaves the country. Tiffany finds out about Not Ping, Not Ping finds out about Tiffany. The Russian girl has to hide for her safety. Just Sandra felt like it could have continued.

The girlfriend missions are horrible. Nothing seems to happen with them. It's like, you meet up with these girls once, barely speak to them, nothing that's happening is particularly clear, then out of nowhere they let you know that they never want to see you again, and you realize that you were just exploiting these girls to indulge Shen's exhibitionist tendencies. Seriously, whenever you (apparently?) sleep with these girls it is never in a private domicile like a normal person. In the middle of a park, in the middle of some other park, in a karaoke room, in a car, on a rooftop. What the hell. But really, my issue is not Shen's weird sex things, it's that the missions are so awkward and confusing. I don't really need entire missions to be devoted to dates, anyway. If the character is going to have a legit love interest it should be worked into the story. If not, then really, who cares. e: vvv the voicemail was literally her calling to say "Who is Tiffany!? You pig! I hate you, never call me again! Okay? Call me!" TacticalUrbanHomo fucked around with this message at 00:50 on Aug 20, 2012 |

I'm glad it went the way it did because romance subplots are universally loving stupid. Earlier on I finished a mission (which was just "go to bed" but whatever) and when I woke up I had a voicemail from Not Ping and a text from a triad. Wei read the text and the voicemail was just ignored completely, so i'm sure it's not that important. Oh well.

Started this game on PC with the 360 controller. Controls are okay, not great. Combat feels almost exactly like Arkham Asylum/Arkham City so far, except sometimes counters don't register for whatever reason. The settings is great. Feels like a living, breathing city with all the stuff there is to see and all the interactions that are available. Story and characters seem forgettable so far, but then again, I'm only a few missions in. It's a pretty solid game so far.

Initially I thought my counters weren't working, but then I realized the game is a little strict in the sense that you need to counter after they turn red, not before, otherwise you go into a counter stance but you don't actually counter anything.

# ? Aug 20, 2012 01:18 |

Several people have mentioned that about the counters. What is actually the case is that you can't just mash the counter button without penalty like you could in Batman. If you press the counter too early, Wei goes into that different stance and you have to wait for him to come out of it before you can attempt to counter again. It's there to make the combat more of a challenge, so that you have to use the counter at the right time. A later Triad upgrade reduces the time of that failed counter. e:fb etc. So close to the end now, 88.5% overall completion. I can't imagine how tedious it would be if all the lockboxes were left to the end, I'm very glad I spaced them out so that they were little nibbles inbetween all the other stuff. The only thing left that does make me worry is trying to get a million dollars of net gambling wins. I guess I have to find the high stakes cock fight and get lucky. A lot. That's going to be painful. Is there any kind of trick to picking the best bird in the fight?

The girlfriends in Sleeping Dogs are blatantly exposition for introducing mini-games with a pretty face (With the exception of Ilyana and Sandra, I guess, but they were tied into other missions, sort of), and that's fine! That's perfectly okay. But "dating" them was awkward and incoherent.

Question about the world events trophy. I've completed 27/28 events, and I was wondering if the knoxx trucks that constantly appear around the world have anything to do with that trophy? I keep doing them, but I'm stuck at 27/28.

Just keep roaming the world. I do Tran missions to keep myself busy, but eventually you'll find a yellow marker on your minimap (it doesn't appear on the big map) and you'll either get a prompt for "Investigate the Commotion" or there will be a parked car (sometimes in an odd spot) with a person locked in the trunk. Help with the commotion or let the person out of the truck to complete the world event. I still need like 2 more edit: oh apparently there's already a map of them: http://i45.tinypic.com/fxhr9.jpg You're looking for the yellow and orange markers. I love the ramming feature in this game. It makes my usual "rampage with an armored car" thing in open world games that much better. I think I got up to 11 automotive takedowns in a row by driving in the wrong lane on the highway and ramming cars headon, they go careening clear into the other lane. It only takes like 3 rams to set them on fire, too. I'd have more takedowns, but the game won't spawn cars fast enough

I think they pretty clearly were intended to be a more expanded system or had bigger story lines somewhere earlier in this game's long development and were chopped down to what you see today. For instance during the date with the white tourist lady she made some mention of Wei buying a dress for her but I don't remember doing that at all. Come to think of it even though you are with Wei presumably for the whole time he is in HK it frequently feels like you've spent a long time in a blackout. Characters you've never seen before act like you've already met and people bring up subjects as if you are supposed to know about them already.

There has got to be a way to disable "Tap forward twice to sprint". I've hosed up and died so many times because of this. Why even have it if the space bar serves the same purpose? Hope this gets patched out or at least changed to you can toggle it off.

It'd be nice if you could toggle it off since I also got burned by it a few times too, but it is super nice on the more parkour-heavy activities and missions. Double tap to run and just mash space to jump instead of trying to time letting go then pressing space again.

Okay, to anyone having trouble with the events, just keep using that map posted above, and trying at the different locations. It may take some time, but the event will pop up eventually (unless you already did it). Also, the number 3 yellow marker is located in a really small mall area, the rest are usually in a mini mart, but this one is in this, kind of, hard to find location.

The PC camera is awful no matter how you tune it. I don't usually plug in a gamepad for PC games (I played Saints Row 3 in its entirely with a mouse and keyboard and it was great) but this one was different.
