This is the thread for the Imperial faction - the Republic thread is located here.

Star Wars: The Old Republic, is an MMORPG developed by Bioware and released in December 2011. It takes place roughly 300 years after the original Knights of the Old Republic and 3,500 years before Episode 4. It is unique among MMO's in that it attempts to tell an RPG-like story throughout the game. Almost all quest givers are voice-acted and there are cut scenes, companions, all that good RPG stuff.

WampaLord's KotOR 1 LP
Scorchy's Knights of the Old Republic 2 LP A fantastic LP even if you've already played the game.

The Story So Far:
After the Great Hyperspace War, the Sith Empire was destroyed by the Republic and Jedi. The survivors fled to a distant corner of the galaxy, landing on the planet Dromund Kaas. There, a new Emperor arose and devoted his people to rebuilding their lost empire. A couple thousand years later, after the Mandalorian Wars, two Jedi named Revan and Malak stumbled across Dromand Kaas while pursuing retreating Manalorians. They met the Emperor (the same one who fled Korriban, who used the Dark Side to become immortal somehow) and fought him. It's not known what happened after that, but Reven and Malak, now calling themselves Sith Lords, returned to the Republic, found the Star Forge, and started the events of Knights of the Old Republic. Then Knights of the Old Republic II happened.

After that, 300 years of calm and rebuilding followed, with the Republic and Jedi Order bringing themselves back to where they were before the Mandalorian Wars. However, the Sith Empire's plan finally kicked off with a massive invasion of the Republic. The Great Galactic War raged for the next 28 years, on a massive scale, ending in a stalemate. The Treaty of Coruscant basically divided the galaxy in two between the Republic and Sith Empire. Now, both exist in a state of cold war, fighting proxy battles on various planets and engaging in border skirmishes.

The game's story starts ten years after the signing of the Treaty of Coruscant.

The Game
Like many MMO's, The Old Republic has two factions, the Republic and the Sith Empire. Each faction has four classes, and each class has their own unique storyline and quests.

The game takes place on various planets in the Star Wars universe. Each planet has it's own quest chain, with various side quests related to that.

The Format
This will be a screen shot LP following the class story lines while showing off the planetary story lines and a few of the better side quests. Mostly I'll be showing off the narrative and adding a little of my own to flesh out the characters, player and non-player alike.

An admission: I am not a very good MMO player. This game works as a standard RPG and that's how I play it. If you have questions about gear, build, skill trees, rotations, or anything like that, please post it in the tread because I'll probably be interested in the answer, too!

So which one will this LP be about?

The thread has voted, and I will be playing a female Chiss Imperial Agent. At this time, we also have LPs of the Sith Warrior, Inquisitor, and the Bounty Hunter going in this thread.

:siren: :siren:SPOILER POLICY:siren: :siren:
No spoilers for the class storylines, Imperial and Republic! Tagged or untagged! None, zero, nada! Planetary quest spoilers are also verboten. However, discussion of KotOR 1 and 2 may be untagged, since this game is going to spoil that plot for anyone who hasn't played them (and you really should have, you are missing out).

Feel free to discuss any and all game mechanics as well, since I have been really lazy on mentioning them in my updates.

And please none of that “oh you don't know how right you are :smug:” poo poo.

A Personal Appeal
This is a Bioware game, a Star Wars game, and an MMO, three things that can lead to Bad Threads. Go back and read through the original TOR thread in Games if you don't believe me. It was lots of people very angry at each other and gratuitous overuse of the world “objectively.” So I'm asking nicely: please try not to turn this thread into a shitstorm of pro- and anti- Bioware/this game posts. Debate is good, disagreements are good, shitposting is not good, derails are not good unless they are interesting or funny. Thank you.

If you want to submit name suggestions, do so! Keep in mind that they can only be 15 characters long and contain no spaces.

God-speed!

STO worked out pretty well, though that's probably more because of the LPer than anything to do with the game.

1. Imperial Agent

4. 1 or 2
5. Highly Professional, hates the Sith

I saw this back in the sandcastle and was intrigued.
Will you be doing any flashpoints?

Looking forward to this. I've been playing all sorts of characters, but I'd love to see how other people view their characters/tackle things in different ways. Can't wait to see more of this!

Protect children from "Safe Schools" social engineering. Shame!

1. Trooper
2. Human (beard)
3. Male (beard)
4. Whichever one is the beardiest.
5. No beard, no good.

If it doesn't have a beard it is beneath you and the boot beard of the Republic! (including other Republic folks)

My Revenge Meat!
Oh boy, here we go. I was wondering if anyone would do this game. I worked on SWtOR for six years and was one of the first artists hired. I was an environment art lead for four years and switched to senior cinematic designer once cinematic production started. I know more about this game than anyone really should.

One time while working at BioWare I made a comment on Something Awful and got in trouble for not getting it approved first. Guess what. I don't work for BioWare anymore. I'm happy to answer any questions about the game either specific to the game or production as long as we don't hijack Moon Slayer's thread.

For example, I pretty much know the full story for every class. Without reservation I would rate the class stories this way from best to worst:

1. Agent
2. Bounty Hunter
3. Smuggler
4. Sith Warrior
5. Trooper
6. Jedi Knight
7. Sith Inquisitor
8. Jedi Consular

Yeah, the force classes didn't work out so well.

So, what, it's Bioware policy you can only post unapproved comments on BSN? Because if some of those were approved :stare:

also I'm gonna go with you on this.

I'm not gonna tell you what to do, but I seem to remember having watched some videos back when the game first came out, that showed the female smuggler voice being REALLY annoying and bratty (male smuggler ruled though AFAIR). Just throwing it out there.

As for me, I'm gonna go with something close to recommendation 2:

1. Imperial Agent
2. Make it a bloke
3. Chiss
4. 2, for the love of god. Every other body type is ridiculous. Body type 3 is André the Giant, and not in a good way
5. Strive to be as professional in your dealings with everyone as you can. Dark knight of the people of the empire, so to speak. So I guess slightly lighter than Whatever it Takes? Good graciousness, how specific I am.

She's the voice of Phil and Lil from The Rugrats and she brings that voice along in this. It's really cool and I enjoyed it all the way to 50. :3:

I would like to also add a personal request if you are an alien on Imperial side. Every time someone is a racist gently caress, call them out on it.

Considering the kind of :stare: post that the devs and managers tend to post on their own website I'd say that they should start enforcing that rule on their own turf.

Fake edit: Do you have a particular interesting story you'd like to share with us from your time at Bioware? By now I doubt that Bioware could sink further in my eyes but you never know...

Screenshot LP? Haven't played the game but from what I've seen isn't this heavily focused on cinematics and voiced quests?

Op, you sure this is the best option?

In any case I'll be following this :munch:

It's an MMO, so I bet it's really focused on grinding for 45 hours to get a rare wookiee pelt +3 to toughness, actually.

perhaps that's too literal an interpretation of focus? :v:

EDIT: Also, get the orange imperial officer uniform on Balmora and use it the entire game, especially on infiltration missions.

There is no problem that cannot be solved through sufficient application of lasers and friendship.
This game makes me sad, there's so much random, hilarious dialog that nobody will ever see because it requires things like having certain classes in a group doing easily soloable quests and then certain people winning and then losing the dialog rolls.
