Whew, good thing I was doing exactly that. I started as a Fighter and beelined for passive benefits, since it seemed like it would affect the character, not the class. Also, how does one level up "Vocation"? I was just running around and I leveled, while other times I leveled up while I was killing stuff.

Every time you gain experience, you get a certain percentage of that in dcp, which levels up your vocation. You get the greatest percentage at under 100 exp, so the fastest way to level vocation is to kill mobs of weak enemies. Also keep in mind that every time your character gains a level, he/she gains stats depending on what vocation you are when you gained the level. Useful to know if you care about long term stat growth. qbert fucked around with this message at 18:19 on Sep 10, 2012 |

So I got I to the post game with a sorcerer and still don't enjoy playing a caster really. Is it feasible to switch gears and try assassin at this point or should I just start over (my other plan)? Edit: I will say that wiping out 2/3rds of the dragon's health bar with a single well-placed maelstrom was pretty cool.

Your stats won't be as directed toward strength/health which are important for assassin, but you can definitely do it without much a problem. You would probably be better off switching to magick archer or mystic knight, but just do whatever you want, this game doesn't make class decisions very binding. Also definitely don't restart, as you're quite close to the end of the game.

Assassin rules, their counter-attack skills add a lot to melee combat, and sword and bow is a winning combination.

I just started the quest where you head off to the greatwall, which I know is near the end of the game. 1. What's the final "point of no return" before you have to face the dragon? 2. Am I going to be totally hosed as a Magic Archer? I feel like my magic sucks and I'm only about half-full in the vocation department. 3. However, I did get my items "Dragon forged" by fighting the drake in devilfire grove for a while, then running away (thought I had to beat him to get dragonforged?).

Can you swing larger weapons effectively? If so, is it by creating a bigger character?

Veyrall posted:Wait, where did this info get revealed? He spells it out if you talk to him enough to exhaust his dialogue lines after getting the Arisen's Bond. He found out about the Arisen's friends and loved ones being used by the Dragon, so he forsake all human companionship. He thought doing this would remove the possible weakness of having someone he loved be taken by the Dragon. But he was unable to fight the Dragon or it outright refused to fight him because of this, as relationships are integral to a human that is destined to attempt to take the throne of the Seneschal. With the Arisen being immortal as long as the Dragon allows it or lives (note the Dragonforged crumbling to dust upon the Dragon's death, while Edmund just rapidly ages), he was basically cursed to watch as everything he knew crumbled away, until all he had left was his Pawn, now known as the Fool, who has been going kind of insane over the years.

Funnily enough, a message will pop up mentioning you've reached the point of no return about one in-game inch in front of the invisible wall that activates it. I'm not actually sure what it says since it's never been up on my screen long enough to get more than the first couple of words. That was a pretty baffling design decision there. But don't worry, it's really obvious that it's coming up, stuff will start looking very familiar. 2. Did you end up killing the drake? If you can do that no problem you'll be fine. 3. As far as I know you do, and even then there's only a chance it'll happen. How weird.

They won't show up until you've gotten a little into the game--I think you have to get access to Blue Moon Tower before they start roaming wildly. You can't always make them fight you, though, but you can encourage them if you slaughter animals nearby so they will come down to eat.

I think the only postgame griffin spawn point is at Hillfigure Knoll. I never saw it actually come down to fight either. "There master, a griffin!" *Grand epic theme music starts up, griffin doesn't give a gently caress and just keeps flying*

Alright, reached Gran Soren. Can't avoid skipping dialogue, it's just so inane. Where should I head next? I went to a forest (it had a monastery) and then a mine (there was a merchant outside) to the west - I think - of the city and got murdered by bandits. Also, no fast travel makes me a sad panda.

I just finished this. It's not often I play something that's so wildly loopy in quality. Completely unremarkable fantasy setting, horrible backtracking, very little energy to the story and pain-in-the-rear end item management on one hand. On the other, pretty good combat, some spectacular boss fights, and the plot actually makes a semi-successful attempt to be clever in the final stretch. Overall I don't regret the purchase, and I might replay it if only so I can pick up the bunch of really involved and story-heavy quests I lost forever in the first two hours seriously who the gently caress does that

But I hate fighting Griffins because they spend all their time in the air and it doesn't seem like Arrows even work that well.

The three spots they hunt are right outside Gran Soren, between the Hill Figure Knoll and the fort north of Gran Soren, and the battlefield by the Southern bandits' keep. It seems like they'll always be in one of those three spots, but the bandit one is so loving remote that I've only killed it through sheer coincidence. I think it chooses a location by day, and if you really need to catch one you can kill yourself and retry if you don't burn its wings and it gets away.

I've got this game a few days back and have been playing it pretty much non stop. A quick question though; is there any reason I shouldn't just do a new game + when I beat it instead of doing post game content and do the post game content in my NG+? No spoilers please.
