Any suggestions so that I can catch these streams on time when they do come up?

The two best pages to check periodically are:

Additionally, I recently installed a Chrome extension called Twitch Online, which you can set up to let you know when people you follow go live.

I use a Chrome plugin called JTV Live which works with Twitch. It uses your Twitch follows and notifies you if any of them come on.

Cosmo is doing research for a video he wants to create on the evolution of breaking OoT, and right now he's watching the Ocarina of Time any% record from 2004 by TSA, completed in 5:25 (in other words, slower than the slowest Wind Waker any% nowadays).

Edit: This is the same TSA whose SDA runs were removed for cheating because of splicing footage together.

What would Castlevania for the NES be like if you were nice and didn't kill any of the non-boss enemies or mess up any of the candles or walls or steal any items from the castle grounds?

This TAS answers that question.

When Ocarina of Time was first released a kid on my school bus told me that his friend beat it in 10 hours. I called him a liar because there was no way somebody could beat just the first three child dungeons in that time, let alone the whole game. Then I watched TSA's OoT 5:25 video shortly after SDA released it, the first speed-run I ever saw.

Shadow Ninja 64 posted:

And that's also why it was a bummer to find out about this like I did a few months ago. The OoT runs today are interesting to watch, but with all of the backwards walking and RBA and wrong warping and cutscene skipping, the game looks less and less like OoT as I played it when I was a kid. I'm watching Cosmo comment on TSA's run in his stream right now, and the run may look sloppy, but it just looks like a dude playing Zelda normally but really really fast, which is why the story from my middle school bus was the first thing that I thought of when I found the video in 2004.

They only ever confirmed TSA's Link's Awakening run was cheated, right?

He also used to have the only Wind Waker run up on SDA, and I think it was something like seven hours? That's a relic I'd love to see just to compare it to today.

edit: Welp, thanks to Cosmo and a fan's good ear there's blatant splicing in his OoT run found. Heh. Shows how little I knew about that situation.

For some reason I started to see this as trying to take over the evil empire -- you gotta kill the bosses because they're loyal to the enemy, but when you're the big boss you can use all these skeletons and poo poo to do your bidding. And obviously you don't want to mess up what's going to be your castle right?

And then at the end the drat thing sinks into the ground anyway. After he was so careful...

I'm pretty sure that was his Zelda 1 and DX runs, not LTTP. But I could be wrong. Maybe it was found later on.

Edit: Yeah, it was his Zelda 1 and DX runs that had confirmed cheating, LTTP was already obsoleted by that point (though would have been removed as well since ALL his runs got removed). http://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/weve_removed_tsas_runs_from_the_site.html

First thing I had flashbacks of when funkdoc considered sub 29 was Mike Uyama's 14:04 Sub-Terrania hard mode record that had several hysterical bloopers despite beating his old personal best of 14:07. Afterwards proceeding to blow that run out of the (stage 9) water and cut his record to 12:33. Despite all the hilarious and random deaths he's had in the game in it's history the first thing he says is "I think sub 12 is possible! Technically that was a bad stage 9!". :stare:

I'm also beginning to worry that Sub-Terrania is having a side effect on his sanity, he's starting to go into laughing fits on each of his personal bests. :ohdear:

Competition for that block is going to be fierce as hell this year. This game would have it's own merits for making it on the list with the one caveat being that someone has to actually play the game first, let alone try to speed run it. Good bonus material, and I'm sure Mike doesn't want to have to issue motion sickness warnings for the street on 3-1 as well. It would definitely be bonus stream material however.

Yeah, that's why I mentioned 2014, not the upcoming one (2013). Omni's definitely the kind of guy to take on that game but he's already got other projects on his plate and it's too soon likely for him to really have it figured out for AGDQ 2013.
