LordPants posted:How is that a bug? Aren't you meant to install metal detectors and search prisoners? That sounds like "A situation that is reasonably likely to happen in a fictionalised prison management video game." I meant that as in it's really awesome and I want to be able to have that without half of my prisoners getting stuck in the medical ward.

Especially since in the last prison I did, one of my prisoners brought in a gun, shot two guards dead, took their keys and walked right out the front door and escaped. Sounds like George Jackson. Count me with the "I'd get this if it wasn't $30" crowd.

This and the bug that allows people to go into restricted areas as they please is what is keeping me from playing at the moment. I still had an awesome time with the current build even though its so broken, so this game is gonna be the poo poo by the time its done.

Played quite a few hours this weekend, only a couple crashes. Try not to go over maybe like ~120 characters? poo poo starts to crawl after that, and I've got a pretty high end machine. I spent the rest of the weekend playing Dungeon Keeper 2 and Evil Genius though, as a result.

I think he only knew Assembly code (Seriously, RCT and all the other games based on that engine were written in assembly) and never learnt anything else so only got hired as a consultant for RCT3 rather than being on the team. I'm also not sure but I think he disliked working with other people on projects which is why he never really seemed to do anything after RCT2 and Locomotion.

Party Plane Jones posted:The alpha seems to be selling well: It made 100k in 72 hours. That's good news. I remember Darwinia selling really poorly, to the point where Introversion was nearly bankrupt, until Valve put it on Steam. Up to that point Valve was only selling their own games on Steam, so a non-Valve game appearing there got a lot of attention and the game sold a ton of copies. It was also a good test for Steam, since Darwinia is a pretty small game, so any problems would be manageable.

Still a few bugs to work out from what I have seen. - I'm being told to no use a common room as no one goes in there. And that seems to be the case. - No need for a chair for the TV's as they just sit on it. - Only using phone booths when they are in the yard. - Same with TV's. - No one uses the bookshelves.b decorative item until they add the ability to read books to reduce boredom. - No sure if pool tables work yet. Still, having fun screwing around restarting over and over because of all these bugs.

In my defence I've been watching tonnes of people playing this on Youtube and failing to fence off their prisons and then complaining when everyone runs away. Or just building really extravagant prisons and complaining about not having any money.

I have a common room that gets used by a few prisoners during free time, but its in the same building as their cells. One guy stands on the pool table, one guy stands on the TV, and the other guy stands around.

Typical Pubbie posted:I have a common room that gets used by a few prisoners during free time, but its in the same building as their cells. One guy stands on the pool table, one guy stands on the TV, and the other guy stands around. Game still has patching issues i think. Looks like it can't tell that there is a common room unless it's attached to cells. Or like in my cafeteria, if i place 1 table and 4 chairs to it only 4 prisoners eat and then they all stand around doing god only knows what. Wolfgang Pauli posted:My setup is a 4x4 cell with a bed, toilet, and TV. Pretty expensive to throw a TV into each room. That's what bookshelves are meant to do in the future. CCTV Cameras don't do anything apparently either. So it's also an issue with not seeing that you have more then 1 of a pool table and what ever else. It's still early alpha, I'm sure in the next update they will fix a few of these things and get to it eventually. Game has a lot of potential, that's for sure.

I noticed that whenever my guards put a prisoner in solitary that they will sort of stand around outside as the prisoner stands inside and just never shuts the door. The door will even shut when they get taken out.

I was rooting around in the savegame file (which is plain-text) and in the block BEGIN Research - END you can easily set all research goals to be completed, it's pretty self-explanatory, just set "Progress" to 1. Right at the beginning of the file there are several boolean variables which also explain themselves, setting "EnabledIntake" from true to false turns new arrivals off.

Pretty neat but the prisoner AI is down right anarchist. I hope implement better flow controls because right now sending prisoners to a holding cell as they arrive and then they just get magically let loose on the grounds makes no sense. Plus the prisoners keep creeping their way past doors they shouldn't be able to get past. Hopefully they add a zoning component you can set (like placing the floors) so you can have a guard respond if a prisoner tries to enter a certain area.

dunc-uk posted:[*]Fog of war. It doesn't make sense that I can see what the inmates are up to all the time. I'd like to have to create a surveillance network and have guards patrol outside the cells, looking in to check inmate activity. Also, camera destruction, roll call, alarms etc. I like your list. They specifically mentioned this would be included in the next update. Prisoners do already fight each other, but grudges would be cool.

Is there an option to make 99% of the people in my prison minorities? Realism is important to me.

Sylink posted:Hopefully they add a zoning component you can set (like placing the floors) so you can have a guard respond if a prisoner tries to enter a certain area. I think that's the one thing that most people are requesting, and I really hope it's added in during the next patch. The last prison I built, I gave myself $500,000 to start with and went crazy. Then I accidentally deleted a wall tile or two, and over half my prisoners escaped. Whoops.

I wish there were more grants so you didn't have to cheat money in, either with save editing or workshop abuse, but man, I really love the feeling of barely controlled chaos this game gives. I always feel like the whole thing is about to slip out of control while I wait anxiously for the next cash injection so I can hurry up and build more prison cells or install some metal detectors or expand this facility or that or hire more guards or whatever.

I'd kill just to have my doors shut properly. My current build has three front gates, but only one of them actually shuts.

Yeah I have that too. Last time I loaded a game my two doors were apparently inadequate so prisoners started escaping until I put a third gate up at a chokepoint.

Special needs offenders would need be separated, guards could burn out, and tons of other poo poo. It would be awesome.

Meliv posted:Also, a boiler room where guards can make inmates fight and the prison gets a cut of the action That's awesome. Maybe have different ways to make money in the prison. Like having a corrupt prison that runs off bribes and fights or have a perfect prison that has a in-house government inspector that will increase government funding based off how compliant your prison is. The prison grants/bribes could change to more active things. Like a corrupt prison could get a bribe to create a nice non stabby area for a crime lord. A clean prison could have grants for doing things like fire drills, have an agent planted in the prison to test security from the prisoners side or poweroutage drills. Of course these aren't realistic, I mean what prison would turn off the power to see how the prison would do without it. But that is why real prison isn't fun. Maybe even actually start a fire for the fire drill :black101. "Ok everyone we are going to have a fire drill." *toss molotov "Good luck."

I hope the gangs are developed in detail. I want to have to try and keep opposing gangs apart so they don't fight, gangs recruiting and growing more powerful if they're not kept in check, have like gang bigshots get sent to your prison every once in a while and if they're not treated properly by the administration their gang members will make trouble.
