I recommend Two Gallants new album. Although it's a lot different from their dirty blues country/punk previous albums, their lo-fi 'ish new album is actually really drat good. Not as depressing, a lot less songs I'm skipping and just great music by two guys. Check out their website, buy their album or listen to it on spotify (USER WAS PUT ON PROBATION FOR THIS POST)

For similar sampling techniques but not hip-hop, try The Books, Zammuto, and Dosh, and of course David Byrne and Brian Eno's "My Life In The Bush of Ghosts." Four Tet does some sampling too. Honestly, though, there aren't that many bands that really sound like the Avalanches, just some that share a few elements.

Laser Cow posted:That's awesome. Now I'm just trying to work out where I remember Since I Left You from. It might be in the wrong direction, but the Bomb Squad is what comes to mind when I see noisy and sample heavy. They're the production team behind Public Enemy, Ice Cube's best album, and Poison by Bell Biv Devoe (and a handful of other things). Unfortunately they never put out an all instrumental album (only in my dreams), but even if you've heard PE, it wouldn't hurt to revisit them and pay more attention to the production. Public Enemy - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Au4rOVoT03A Public Enemy - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJ_1Wg2KysQ&feature=related Ice Cube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSPdyU44q3Q Terminator X (click this link! this song is heavyyy) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHBwwdegvSc Also look into the sort of genre called plunderphonics.

I was never really into ambient/experimental, but I listened to this track and can't get enough of it. The piano, especially, is what makes it. I'm listening to many of White Rainbow's other songs, but I haven't yet come across one that gives me the vibe this one does. Can I get pointed in the right direction?

I'm interested in getting into Tori Amos' music. I was recommended her by a friend because I'm already a fan of Kate Bush, and she said that Tori's music is similar to Kate's and that I would love it. I've already listened to the song Winter, and it's good. Any recommendations on where I should begin with Tori? Which albums etc.

Could anyone give some suggestions on some experimental/ambient/noise type music? I've been listening to the same stuff for a while now and I'm looking to branch out to some new musicians or artists or whatever. I'm looking for stuff in the range of Alva Noto's albums Xerrox Vol.2 and Transform, and also like everything else by Alva Noto, Aube's track Metal Cicada, and the album The Return of Fenn O'Berg. Grooveshark, Pandora etc seem to go nutty with these artists and suggest Boards of Canada or something and make finding new stuff a bit of a bitch to do. Complete shot in the dark on this one, but if anyone has suggestions on experimental turntablism stuff like Strotter Institute that'd also be rad, because they're pretty rad and own bones live. Sorry if the genres don't exactly match up with the musicians, can't always tell what this poo poo counts as. edit: vvvv poo poo I looked and didn't even see that thread, I'm an idiot. sugar free jazz fucked around with this message at 21:01 on Sep 23, 2012 |

Gangnam Style's beat is pretty bog-standard Dutch house, check out anything by Afrojack or Quintino if you like that. For my part, I've been really addicted to Kill for Love by Chromatics lately and I'd like to find some similar stuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rSycSBYHitc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygCOLpZhWyg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxemmi_7B34 It's still synth-heavy, but it's got less of the dancey, nu-disco tone of Night Drive and goes for a melancholy indie feel that I loving love. I would like some dubstep that isn't terrible. Skrillex drives me nuts because almost all of his stuff is "midtempo overdone glitch noise", and the last three of those four words would be fine if the tempos were a little more varied. I don't know, it's a little too poppy for my taste almost, a little too simplistic and predictable and I end up getting bored as soon as the bass drop hits. Dieselboy has kind of ruined the genre for me, a d&b stalwart showing the new school what's up while blowing my mind with the nuance and variance demonstrated by this track (it's long, so skip to about ... 44:09 to get to the dubstep portion since most of the preceding is a standard d&b set in whatever way you can describe Dieselboy as "standard." Basically I love the poo poo out of this one mix and can't find anything else that keeps my interest. 1:20:15 'til the end is my favorite thing. Oh, and vocal breaks right before the drop is already played the gently caress out, if I never hear another track that does it it'll be too soon. Kind of takes all the punch out of the drop since you see it coming so obviously. vanov fucked around with this message at 00:14 on Sep 29, 2012 |

I don't know exactly how to describe this, but I want stuff like Midnight City, Dance Yrself Clean or Bowie's Heroes, that sound like they should be played when you're driving at 2AM and it's perfectly dark and starry and maybe there's a little neon in the distance and you're completely at peace with the world. Not sparse, but really full sounding and almost droning, with layers. (edit: like, music that almost brings you to tears because it's emotional and awesome and...) That's a weird rear end description, I hope someone can help me. edit: blakout posted:I'm looking for something like F.U.N. specifically "some nights" big bombastic hard driving pop Los Campesinos might be what you're looking for.
