Deadspin content is wildly varied from absolute garbage (let's get a penis shot of x famous athlete) to some really amazing stuff. Bleacher Report is all absolute garbage.

Yeah, I'm gonna agree with most people here and say that as much as Deadspin does lovely stuff, they're no worse than ESPN in many ways and occasionally the site showcases some fantastic writing. Honestly, loath as I am to say it, Yahoo Sports might top either in consistency.

Deadspin would be much more tolerable if they didn't do tons of lovely stuff while simultaneously calling out everyone else (particularly ESPN) for shoddy journalism. But yes they are certainly a hell of a lot better than Bleacher Report (sorry, Jacobi  )

I think the problem with Deadspin is that they can't decide whether or not they want to be a Serious Sports Reporting Website or a sports gossip site. So for all the good stuff they actually do put out, it gets invalidated by all the penis shots and people loving in bathroom stalls. Their overall product is very schizophrenic

Mike Tirico's little blurb thing he does on ESPN radio was pretty terrible today. He made a "should we just let the stats and spreadsheets play the games now?" then "Yes the Angels have a better record but they're a third place team." followed by "WAR. What is it good for? Third place in the AL West" I just don't understand how there is this misconception that Sabremetics is about predicting games or stats or something when all it is attempting to do is quantify what has already happened more accurately than AVG, RBI, ERA and other outdated stats.

It is literally impossible for sportswriters to understand that a player can be good on a bad baseball team even though the best loving player is worth at the very most maybe 10 wins out of a 162 game season.

Tom Verducci, who's usually excellent at personal profiles of players, got a chance to get in with Davey Johnson and the horrible poo poo he's been through the last ten years. Unfortunately, Verducci fell pretty short. :-/ For all that Johnson's been through, Verducci meanders around the points and doesn't draw hard enough an actual profile. We get an idea of Johnson, both who he is and what he's been through, but not enough to actually get how this man, who's seen his own daughter die, manage to come out on top with a good attitude and somehow not only fuction, but thrive. The main question, Why did he even get back into baseball, isn't even asked. Now their stories published in the magazine are subscription only online. Might have to not renew my subscription. What happened to SI? They used to be the peak of sports writing.

The problem with Deadspin was that Daulerio is human trash and would write articles about making GBS threads his pants. But now he's gone and the quality of the site has rebounded significantly in the last few months and I think the tone has become a bit more self aware of their own shortcomings. Considering the general dearth of good writing, I'll take it where I can get it even if it means skimming through stupid posts or in Grantland's case being reminded Bill Barnwell gets paid to write.

Wilbon vs DC. Wilbon, standing against the ropes decides to throw a chair at Steinberg, realizes he looks like an even bigger rear end than he already is, sprain his knee backtracking. Then everyone chills and hopefully Wilbon stays in Arizona.

I don't know where else to put this but Mike Francesa is announcing that WFAN is moving to 101.9. This is a pretty big deal all things considered. Apparently the Yankees wanted to be on FM and this is how it's gonna happen.

It's like bashing The Daily Show for being critical of traditional media. I'm not a big fan of Deadspin. They have a great piece every now and then but do a lot of dumb stuff as well. But ESPN pretends to be a reputable news outlet while Deadspin doesn't.
