I love Com Truise, and I know that they're pretty unique. I mostly love the way that it's exactly the type of music you want to listen to while sitting in a comfy chair with the lights off and staring at the VFD equalizer on your old stereo just bumping along to the music as all of the various led's in your house just blink on and off, doing they own thing. It's got that rough and untamed analog sound but it's also incredibly relaxing and warm sounding and just makes you think of a time that never really existed but its pretty swell to just sit there and enjoy it. Bliss on Cruel Summer is pretty different but also loving incredible in the same way that Com Truise is incredible and it's probably the best song on the album that's nothing like it at all. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQpuiuhOzT4 It's got the sweet eagle screeches and sweeping synth lines and the light chimes that come in from behind and aaaa it's just awesome

I'm looking for prog that is similar to King Crimson's Red. Specifically, stuff with a darker edge to it (and distorted bass is a plus). I've been told Tool is similar, but I don't like Tool.

I'm looking for something similar to the tracks that are used in this mix by Psilogod. http://soundcloud.com/psilogod/psilogod-basstream-radio-5-17 I tried listening to his Divinations album, but it was nothing like this; way more trance-oriented. I listen to a lot of downtempo psychedelic music, but I have yet to find anything quite like this mix. It just strikes that perfect balance between heavy and chilled-out. Also, if anyone happens to know where any of the material in this mix comes from, that would be even better. Any suggestions?

On "Henry's Dream" at least Nick Cave with his big growly voice takes "dark country" to a new level of blackness, the first song describes a murder pretty gruesomely and I forget about the rest but maybe that? There's always Murder Ballads, too.

I need some help making a playlist of rock / hard rock / metal songs that could be played in a strip club / while a girl is dancing. Unfortunately rock is not my genre of choice and I have no idea where to start looking (beyond the obvious 80s hair metal choices). So can some goons recommend me some (reasonably) modern bands, artists or specific tracks that would fit the niche of dirty, sleazy and loud rock 'n' roll. So far the only band I've found in my own collection that is suitable is the Genitorturers and some of Devil Driver's stuff but I know there must be far more appropriate bands that I just don't know about.

Trying to build a dubsteppy playlist that I'm going to play racing videogames to. Stuff I basically want more of: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNQD1T-Z850 (Baba O'Reilly remix) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G41ebtj1AO8 (Skrillex Breakin' a Sweat Zedd remix) I'm looking for specific songs as I've listened to a couple Skrillex albums and a lot of it is not what I'm looking for. I think what I like about these two songs is the constant upbeat energy and almost trancy, simple beats. I'm looking for almost chill dubsteppy stuff. I suppose if the song also uses classic rock songs, that'll be neat too.

Farm Frenzy posted:did UK funky ever produce any good albums? I've got rinse presents: Roska but I have no idea about the scene otherwise Not particulary. I mean not that the scene has produced only crap, just there isn't much in the way of LPs out there. Like all good dance music it's a singles game. Since you've already got Roska's first LP you can pick up his second release that came out not too long ago and builds on that first release. The other new one is Brackles album. Like the first Roska one both are out on Rinse. From way back you've got Geeneus's LP Volumes: One on Rinse again. Sadly we never got a Volumes: Two. Ah well, maybe in the future. Probably got distracted with the Katy B success, who's debut was produced by him and Zinc and I also recommend it. Obviously a bit more poppy at times but whatever. Speaking of Zinc you've also got his two Crack House albums. Though I say they're Funky it's a pretty twisted Funky I guess you could say. Bit more rough and tough, bit more heavier and techy at times, especially the second volume. Still worth a listen though. They came out on his Bingo Bass imprint before he decided to stop putting out real records. Finally check Donaeo's album Party Hard which came out not long after the scene first kinda blew up and has all those classic tunes of his, Devil In A Blue Dress, African Warrior, I and all that. That's all I can think of off the top of my head (though I wouldn't be surprised if I'm missing some). You have a small selection of mix CDs and what not, but sadly a lot of music from that scene - especially from those more earlier days - just never made it out into the wild, which is a great shame as it was a really fantastic and refreshing time for UK dance music and it really should've had more justice done to it. Though I guess on the positive side it seems to have been a big inspiration to a lot of the sound that's about the now.

The best sampling music has to offer boils down to these albums, all of which are highly technical and eclectic: Avalanches - Since I Left You De La Soul - 3 Feet High And Rising Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique DJ Shadow - Entroducing.... J Dilla - Donuts

Deafheaven is the only current thing I can think of that fits, but there's probably a bit of mid-90s emo/post-hardcore stuff that you might like- Indian Summer, Shotmaker, Maximillian Colby, Rodan, and Unwound hit all of those marks, but not always at the same time. Both of the Barry 7's Connectors are good (mostly CAM, I think), and have less of a dance focus than Strut's. There's two De Wolfe focused comps called Bite Hard / Bite Harder that have some nice tracks. Le Jazzbeat Vol 1 & 2 are good and I think are mostly MP2000 sourced. There's a ton of comps that are kind of hit or miss, and a lot of stuff gets missed (like Themes and a ton of Italian stuff). There's a lot of great italian OST stuff that got recycled into libraries and labels like Easy Tempo comp them for now sound / ultra lounge stuff.

I would really like more music similar to what Vincent Gallo was doing on his When album and the Buffalo '66 soundtrack. I don't mean superficially similar, like "check out the sea and cake," but very specifically this bleak, skeletal, and empty strain of sixties folk with heavy jazz influence and chord voicings that I can't quite put my finger on. It reminds me a bit of Patty Walters, but from there I get lost. Any ideas of what he was up to on this music, influence wise, that I can check out? https://vimeo.com/21707874 https://vimeo.com/14898537
