They were number 2 the first week in Finland. I expected number 1 to be a pop act or something, but it's another metal band. How does that happen?! I've never heard of Mokoma and I would think that with such a big international following, Wintersun must have a huge Finnish following.
Well, metal is just that drat popular here. The top album chart always has some metal albums hanging on it, often on the higher places too. For example, Machinae Supremacy's latest is currently #9 and there's friggin' Manowar at #20.
Mokoma are one of those bands who have a very solid following in their home country but probably haven't even tried that hard to market themselves abroad. They play on every single goddamn local festival every summer and their albums always sell a lot. I don't really follow them myself, they're not bad but just not my thing. Used to be pretty much thrash metal, not sure about their current state.

Finland is awesome for metal. I was visiting my grandma there and the first radio station I put on in my rented car was 'Radio Rock' playing stuff like Pantera and Maiden at 9 am.

I've done a few festivals on the same year, but not in such a short span. However, I plan to rent a motorhome next year and do something like that. PM me and we can see if something can be sorted out!

I've done it. It's really expensive, but it's a lot of fun. My trip was bookended with fests- Wacken at the beginning and Party.San at the end back in 2008.

I wrote a blog about planning and stuff: http://scrapyardmagazine.blogspot.com/2012/05/pitgoddess-guide-to-fest-going.html

I couldn't imagine doing a few festivals in two weeks. Wacken destroyed me this year, though the weather (and mud...oh God the mud) made it a bigger physical toll than it would be if it was nice out. Then there's the after parties and yeah...one festival is enough for me (coming from Canada's west coast).

SUCK A DICK, DUMBSHITS!

Anyone else heard the new Kamelot cd? I'm loving it.

Feels closer to The Black Halo than Poetry for the Poisoned, which is a good thing to my ears. The new singer proved himself when I saw them back in September, but now I really want to see them do this new stuff with him.

So I saw Trepalium and Gojira last wednesday and it was as spectacular as you could imagine. I was wearing an old Gojira shirt that the guys recognized so Joe took me aside after the show, we talked a bit about how they really need to play more shows in Sweden and he gave me some plectrums and his set list. It was a good night!

I haven't ever heard any of their songs but I just like the little "(feat. Vinnie Paul)" label that would always follow the HELLYEAH name. No idea if they still do that, but whenever people say hellyeah I can always quickly go "feat. vinnie paul" and then laugh like a maniac.

Just came back from a Sabaton + Eluveitie + Wisdom gig, and I'm going to say wow. I went there just to see Sabaton but Eluveitie put on one hell of a show. I liked how everyone's pockets were full of flutes and poo poo and random band members were pulling them out to play solos :haw: Oh and Sabaton are really worth seeing live, Joakim is one of my favourite metal front men. If you're going to be singing about trench warfare and tank battles, you'd better look and sound the part :colbert: Sexy as hell too. Shame the new album isn't that hot, really would have liked more songs of Coat of Arms and Attero Dominatus in the set list.

Poetry really turned me off, but I finally broke down and listened to the new album and it does seem like a cross between Black Halo and PftP. I still miss Karma-era Kamelot, though.

You know, I like it, but it's certainly not as arresting as VII was.

There are a lot of great and progressive ideas in it, and Niklas' clean voice is one of my favourites, but it just doesn't feel as dark as it probably should be. Kvarforth is apparently up to his gills in meds at the moment, so it could really just be him evening out.

It is a dark and brooding album, but not in the self-destructive way that the previous albums were.

It's missing the riffs that made them for me. The oohs and oohgs of the vocals aren't there and it's just not as good. They've been churning out an album every two years though for a while now so this isn't a big suprise for me.

edit: I like how your name is radio paranoia.

Does anybody have any recommendations for good sites to buy merch, specifically shirts? Previously I've bought directly through labels or chipped in with friends and someone else did the legwork of finding places, but I'm thinking of ordering some stuff over the holidays.

I'll probably do it with two or more friends with varying tastes too, so some place with a wide selection would be cool.

Plastichead in the UK has the best poo poo I've ever bought, 100%. Best designs and the silkscreening holds tough through the wash. They're pricey by comparison but they're absolutely worth it.

I'm really not liking it :( It feels like they know they should return to the Black Halo sound but they don't quite get there.

That said I've liked all their post-Black Halo albums less and less so it might not be that bad, just me finally giving up.

I don't see where he says that, but it wouldn't surprise me, I was at the show last night in Boston and they had a bit of a kerfuffle at loadout. A punch may or may not have been thrown.

It's amusing seeing the vocal quality in two band's sets go from amazing to... the opposite of amazing.
